Bills GM Nix: Patriots 'don't scare me'

LMAO it was a story from the Toronto Sun lol they cant even get Media coverage in the USA forget bout new york

What he said put undue pressure on the Bills players. Observations around the NFL appear high for the Bills given their defensive acquisitions.

You don't sell tickets by bull****ting, which effectively is what Nix is doing. You sell tickets because your team plays well not the crap that's sprouted out in the papers than can be used against you.

Hey....
Selling tickets by bull****t★ing can be very effective ...just ask Rex Ryan ....well except for this year. Youcant pile on enough horse ***** to hide the train wreck going on down there!

Nix was only trying to pump the tires of his own team confidence wise. The Bills prior declarations or lack thereof hasn't accomplished anything so he figures why not try the Rex Ryan approach. Sounds logical as it worked so well for the Jets.

The Bills defense, should they remain healthy, is set up perfectly to slow us down. Especially if Koppen has trouble handling Dareus. But their offense isn't set up to match points with us.

Bold words out of the worst team in the league the second half of last year.

why not just say your going to win the SB. That has shown to be an effective method.

I'll believe it when I see it. For all the talk about Mario & Mark Anderson - those two bookended the worst pass defense in the league just a couple years ago. Anderson was an afterthought when we signed him, and wasn't much until Carter went down. Can Dareus and Kyle Williams stay on the field in our no huddle?

Again, this defense got destroyed from November on last year. It gave up 32 PPG after Halloween. Needless to say, that's the worst in the league.

They are paper giants at the moment. They, and their GM, should shut their mouths and perform.

Injuries ravaged them. When they were healthy, they were at least decent. Add on one of the better pass rushers of this past decade and another decent pass rusher at the other end with Dareus and Williams playing the 3-technique, and they should be a pretty formidable defensive line, IF healthy (which I noted in my last post, you'll see). Their secondary is still suspect, though, which is why I think we'll still be able to put up enough points to win. But, as the Giants have shown time and again, it doesn't take a great secondary to slow us down. It just takes a strong pass rushing presence with your front four with the ability to generate pressure up the A-Gaps without blitzing. The Bills, on paper at least, look to have the ability to do that.

I've always wondered why anyone would want to draw more attn to themselves with insanely bold statements like that

insanely bold statements like that

You've got to be kidding me.

It's not insanely bold to say you aren't afraid of another team. Especially when the reporter probably baited with the question 'Are you afraid of the Patriots?'

If anyone ever said anything other than 'I am not afraid' they should probably be fired or cut.

Of course there's another way to go about it while still not saying you're afraid, as was noted earlier in the thread. But keep on truckin'.

I disagree with this tremendously. How many times have you heard Bill Belichick, or any member of the Patriot, say that phrase? Zero.

He could've just made some generic comment like "we believe we can compete for the division title." That's fine. "I'm not afraid" is the kind of bulletin board material that winds up posted in locker rooms. It's the kind of phrase that leads to Rodney Harrison still somehow feeling disrespected.

How decent were they when healthy? Forgive my cherry-picking, but if we throw out some outliers, we see in week 2 through 6, that defense gave up 28 PPG. That's all before Williams went down, and he was their biggest loss.

They held teams under twenty points three times (struggling Chiefs, Broncos and Redskins offenses), and if you toss those out, they still give up 32 PPG the rest of the year. Again, easily league worst, including times when they were healthy.

Again, they added some real talent in Mario. I think people are overestimating what Mark Anderson brings. And I think people are severely overrating where this team is to start. Time will tell. But I am getting annoyed by all the prognostication that the Bills are somehow a huge threat.

I wasn't afraid of my big brother either. Too bad most times we fought it was the same result. Me saying uncle in the end.

May have to modify an old Paul Brown statement here:

"If you are confident say nothing, if you are scared, say less."

I mean why point out any team in particular? why not say you thing you have a great group of guys on the team this year and you feel good about your chances or if the players can play the way they are capable, they an go up against any team in the league.

They were decent enough to lead the league in turnovers during that time. It was something that the defense that we had in 2010, though flawed like last year's Bills defense was, did to help the team get to 14-2. They were decent enough to snag as many INT's in one game as Brady had thrown in the entire regular season the year before. Nobody is saying that they were a shut down defense. What I'm saying is that they were decent. When the injuries hit and they stopped getting their hands on turnovers, that's when they took the nosedive. Similar to what happened with us once we couldn't force a turnover in the 2010 Divisional Round. With that said, would you say our 2010 defense was terrible or decent?

In all, I'd say Ryan Fitzpatrick's numerous killer INT's and turnovers were just as responsible for their downfall at the end of 2011 as their injury plagued defense.

I'm not overestimating what Anderson brings. I think he's a good book-end for a defense that has three guys that the O-Line will really concentrate on (Both Williams' and Dareus). They have a D-Line that's set up to slow us down. It's as simple as that. If they stay healthy, they should at least be able to do so. They're not going to stop us, but we're not going to ride all over them like we did in Week 16 last season.

EDIT: Oh and I'm not saying that the Bills are a huge threat. You're completely twisting my words there. I'm just saying that they're our biggest threat in the division right now and, if healthy, should give us a few issues on the defensive side of the ball.

Re: leading the league in turnovers, I would say Brady handed them a couple in that game. That and the Chiefs game were there only high TO games in that stretch.

I didn't mean to suggest that you were arguing they were a big threat - that was meant as a general comment on the buzz surrounding the Bills right now and not at all a reflection of your much more mild and rational commentary in this thread. Apologies for the confusion.

This is as comical as **** MacPherson saying, "We're not afraid of ANY other team!"

Wait, GMs can trashtalk now? How do they back it up? By owning the hell out of the waiver wire?

Bills fans and players have been so confident about playing the Patriots. I think like 5-6 players thumped their chest about it last year, even after they collapsed. When is the last time they've beaten the Pats without 4 INTs by Brady, including two tipped passes?

Not sure I'd be so excited about a 1-15 record in my last 16 games against a team.

For an NFL head coach, **** made a nice grandfather...
