The 2013 Prospect Thread

Mayo and OTG patrolling the secondary...err draft prospects.

Reminds one of Rodney Harrison and Ty Law!! Getcha popcorn ready!!

High Praise, indeed, Brother Penn. I humbly THANK Ye!! :rocker:

OK, but I get to be Rodney. :yeeha:

You called it first, so you got it.

But I can live with being Emperor Tyraneus!! :D

Gotta love Jones.

The best thing about Mad Bill's inexplicably persistent refusal to follow My Vision, each year, is that if he ever DID...I'd be hard put to find any reason to Pick ANYONE the next year!! Hah!!

As it is, I get to lust after Jones ~ in a strictly manly, NON Spike TV way, of course!! ~ for the next year!! :D

Not that I'm inclined that way, but if I had any "Spikes TV" man lust I'd save it for Nate Ebner:

Seriously, there are a number of OL prospects with nice positional versatility. Khaled Holmes, Mark Jackson and Gabe Ikard come to mind. Jones may be unique and a perfect Pats' prospect, but there are some other gems out there.

Nice profile on Ohio St. DT Johnathan Hankins, aka "Big Hank":

Big Hank Getting Ready

Man I want him. He was good last season despite weighing in around 350 lbs. He reminded me of Vince bc of the way he moved. For the guy his size, he was impressive. Last year he played the 5 tech RDE spot.

This yr he has lost some fat and added muscle. I really want to see how good he looks.

A look at the top DTs on Alabama's 2012 regular season schedule, headed by LSU's Bennie Logan:

TRips: Three opposing DTs for 2012

Alabama doesn't play Georgia in the regular season, so John Jenkins and Kwame Geathers aren't on the list. LSU sophomore Anthony Johnson is someone to watch for 2014.

2012 Rimington Trophy watch list:

Rimington Trophy

Barrett Jones, Khaled Holmes and Travis Swanson, please. In that order.

See they have Byran Jones listed but i don't think he's even Arkansas' best DT. I think DeQuinta Jones is but they arent the only one i've seen that feels that way so maybe im wrong.

Charlie Campbell from Walter Football profiles LSU DB Tyrann Mathieu:

Skill-Set Summary: The unique attributes that allows Mathieu to be such a force are his instincts. He does a tremendous job of reading an offense and getting in position to make plays. Mathieu is always around the ball. The aggresive corner is a physical hitter and plays much bigger than his size. He has a real knack to strip the ball free from ball carriers.

In the college game, Mathieu has good coverage as a cornerback. He doesn't get beat deep or allow much separation. For the next level, given his size, Mathieu would be best as a hybrid safety and cornerback. He could be serve as a slot corner who covers smaller receivers. Mathieu would operate well as a roving free safety. His instincts could let him run around the field and make splash plays. Mathieu's game is similar to Baltimore Ravens All-Pro Ed Reed.

The play-making corner could also be a punt returner in the NFL.

2013 Draft Expectations: If Mathieu has another good season, he could easily enter the 2013 NFL Draft. Mathieu won't be a flawless prospect with his size and some off-the-field concerns. Despite that, he has been such a dominant defender who some team will use a quality pick on him.

Right now, Mathieu looks like a first- or a second-round pick. If he were a few inches taller and around 200 pounds, he would be a top-16 prospect. Mathieu is a pure football player who will have plenty of teams fall in love with him when he enters the draft.

Fairly reasonable summary. Mathieu has world class instincts but he's size deficient and his athleticism is limited. Used right he could be a tremendous weapon, but he is going to be limited in how he can be used. I'm guessing he'll end up in the 2nd round when all is done, but it's just a guess right now.

The NFP's Wes Bunting profiles Notre Dame RB Cierre Wood:

Breaking down Notre Dame RB Cierre Wood | National Football Post

Of particular note:

- Is an impressive pass protector. Showcases a great feel picking up blitzing backers, can drop his base and slide through contact or cut them down quickly at the point.
- Is natural catching the ball out of the backfield as well and can play three downs in the NFL.
- Showcases a second gear in the open field, looks like a 4.45 guy who can accelerate past angles and create the big play.

Sounds intriguing.
