Name one suprise cut

No cuts would really surprise me.

The only untouchable players on defense are Wilfork and Mayo. Obviously newly signed Fanene wouldn't get cut, and the rookies will be given their chance.

Brady is untouchable for now, along with the young TE's. OLine in general is pretty much set. The sophomore RBs will be given their chance.

None of those WRs are "safe" though. So much competition.

2 nd rounder Shane Vereen.

Cunningham wont be a surprise the guy cant stay healthy and pros is not college.

He was healthy for all of his first season and half of his 2nd.

2 nd rounder Shane Vereen.

I can't tell if you are serious or kidding?

Cutting a 2nd rounder, who by all accts was one of the top 3 RB's to come out last year, in an arguable position of need just doesn't seem too likely.

Especially considering that Belichick would never cut a player like that without first seeing what they had to offer the team. Since Vereen hasn't had that chance yet, there'd be no benefit to cutting him.

Fletcher getting cut would be a surprise and I don't see it happening if he's healthy. He was hurt last year but showed promise his first year.

Love and Mesko are throwing darts at a dartboard type choices - not happening.
Mesko is a top punter and Love, at the very least would be Wilfork's backup.

Brace and Cunningham wouldn't surprise me.

Branch and Koppen would be mild surprises that I could see cut.

I could see any of these, besides the obvious ones like Mesko--which you already covered.

I think Fletcher is indeed overrated, but I also think he stays this year with no problem.

Any of the second tier group of WR's are fair game. I don't see the benefit of cutting Koppen as of the current situation, but we've spoken of that before. Anything can change though, so a guy like Wendell or Koppen could be considered the 'surprise' cut that many did not see.

I've been a lurker and not a poster the last few weeks but this is a interesting topic.

People will hoot and holler about the Woodhead cut. I could also see
this occuring if Addai remains healthy. Addai could be the 3rd down
back because he can catch passes and pass block.

With the likelihood that the Patriots will be playing multiple fronts I would think that a player like Fletcher sticks. He's shown he can make the difficult transition from college DL to ILB in the pros, could probably play OLB in the 4-3 (and maybe 3-4 in some situations) as well as playing on special teams.

They still don't have a lot of LB depth with Mayo, Spikes, Hightower and Ninkovich the only locks to make the roster. I would have Fletcher as the next most likely one to make the roster over Tarpinian, M.Carter and Cunningham and the STers. (I don't know if I'd consider Chandler Jones a LB at this point.)

We have about 6 guys who can play DL in the 34, and you just cut half of them:confused:
Why in the world would Woodhead be cut? Woodhead has played more snaps than any other RB the last 2 years. (and been very effective) How do you replace him with an undrafted rookie?

If we are playing 34 as the base, which all indications are we will, both Jones and Bequette are OLBs. I think Hightower will be also, so that does give Fletcher a better chance of sticking as the #3 ILB, competing with Carpeneter for that job. I don't see any need at all to keep 4 ILBs. Also if Hightower is playing ILB, Fletcher will have to make the squad on special teams.

Agree with you point, but disagree that BB would have to keep him and put him in regular season games to know what he would give the team.

.

I think he is one of those guys who likes to trash the drafting and claim he can do better, so I think its hoping more than kidding.

This may be a surprise to some, but I don't see Danny Woodhead on the team any longer.
I like him as a story line etc... But, he comes up small in the playoffs. Gets his bell rung easily as well.

Didn't he score us a touchdown in the superbowl? In any event, our running game has generally been ****e in the playoffs regardless of the individual making the runs.

Since this is hypothetical and all of us will end up being wrong in some of our predictions i take injuries, a undrafted player, practice squad player and low round picks, guys coming back from injuries, and just the decline whether it be mental or physical in regard.

This is a get after the quaterback kind of League witht the additions of Jones,Bequette, Fanene, this gives us 3 defensive lineman who can get to the QB as well as anchor against the run at least serviceable in that regard.

Brace has been wildly inconsistent and can't stay healthy I think his roster spot is and has been up for grabs, Love is a keeper who will just get better in my opinion.

Pryor is interesting he can penetrate as a tackle in the 4-3 but doesn't stop the run relatively well, he's been 1 dimensional at this point.

I think this years defense will be highlighted as being versatile and able to stay on the field and not be thrown off guard by hurry up offenses and mismatched personal.

This is highlighted by our draft selections and our free agents, Scott can play end and has value as a stand up linebacker in a 3-4 in a pinch he can be serviceable with his hand up.
Fanene has played end as well as nose in a 4-3 in both gap systems.

Jones can play end or the elephant in a 3-4

Hightower can play all over this defense.

even looking at our new additions at defensiveback

Gregory can play in the box or out in coverage ditto for Tavon Wilson who can also play at the nickel as well as outside defensive back he can play zone or bump man.

Fonzy has played outside, nickel, zone as well as man, I see him as more of a Zone defender but these additions give us alot of flexibility on stunts and schemes, much less chance for a mismatch or to be caught off guard and unprepared.

So cutting Warren it's just age you go with upside over the grizzled vet who will always be by the phone worst case scenario occurs during the season.

Cutting Brace does he scare opposing qbs, or offensive coordinators?
can he stay healthy has he improved every year?
Is their scheme flexibility with him?

Cutting Pryor this is a tough one for me but He is a 4-3 tackle and that's it he doesn't have the moves to rush from the end, or the athleticism to beat our Carter or Scott at that position.

I think he could even be traded for as high as a 5th.

Ocho Cinco has a decent camp and Preseason

But Ebert looks like a mix of Welker and Branch,
Impresses and Bill knows he can't sneak him on the practice squad he may get a phantom pinky injury and go on pup as well.

Woodhead, Vareen Addai and Bolden make Woodhead expendable
Bolden has a chance to be special and I think that will be on display the second he get's on the practice field. Addai is the new back in shotgun formations due to his excellent blitz pickup and he will pick up the scheme quickly.

Gonzalez we catch lightning in a bottle and see why he was a 1st round pick.

So in closing this is just a fun exersise so flame away.

Can Chad Johnson be considered a "surprise cut"? That's who I am going with.

I would be very shocked if Woodhead was cut. He's young and has shown to be a decent player with good hand out of the backfield. I think he's good value and depth at RB (a position that holds many ?s).

Surprise cut? Tom Brady would surprise me.:)

Woodhead is my pick, i don't agree if he is cut but there has to be a possibility
