Then don't.

I think I was pretty clear about politely asking that the poster not goad me into an argument, and equally forthright that I am sure such an argument would ensue if he tried to do so.

Andy,

It's really quite simple. If a thread discussing a particular topic bothers you, don't post replies, argue and talk about it with those you disagree with.

What was unclear about me stating that I was clear that I am asking not to be goaded into an argument?
The topic doesn't 'bother me'. The discussion that would ensue would be disrespectful to the deceased IMO, so I am asking the poster to not bait me. How you think that gives him a license to bait me and it is my resposnsibility to not be baited makes no sense to me.

I'm not sure why that really is any of your business anyway.

:rolleyes:You're right. He has no license to bait you any more than you have a license to be a fish.

And when I specifically say that I would be susceptible to baiting, and ask (even saying please) more than once to not do so, because the ensuing conversation would be disrespectful to the man who just passed away, why do you feel it necessary to stick your nose in the middle of it?

We have our own thread about this
NS - Junior Seau Dead - Apparent Suicide

And at first I really didn't know what to say on this forum, and in a way I still don't. He really meant a lot to you. You can read the love and what he meant to fans here. With Krafts wife and now this, its really heart breaking to watch. Im am so proud you care so much, and sorry for your loss.
But I do believe in god, and that he's happy now. Sorry. He was amazing.

I think that one of the really cool things about Seau, as a player and a person, is that any fan of football was a fan of his. Probably goes without saying that this hits Chargers fans the hardest, both because of the time he spent there and his stature in the San Diego community. But beyond that, IMO it barely matters if he played for your team or not. The sadness that I feel over his death, for one, has almost nothing to do with the fact that he ended his career as a Patriot. It makes Super Bowl 42 suck even more--which I truly didn't think was possible--but that's about it. It was more that, if you were watching the NFL over the past 20 years, then he was almost certainly a player/person who you greatly respected.

He was a light that briefly the crossed path of Patriot Nation. I lived in SD 90-95 and saw his greatness. One of those special players. It was an honor to have him play for the Patriots. Over the years, I have been jaded with modern athletes. They're just too rich and separated from the fan. But Seau represented truth in sports. He effort was real. Always in a play even if you were down a bunch or up a bunch.

Off the field, he seemed to touch people with his spirit - those he knew and those who knew him from a distance. It's hard to think that said spirit couldn't win out against the idea that suicide was the best action.

Which is why I would like to believe that CTE will be found to be a determining cause of his premature death. We will just have to wait for the results of that brain study.

He was special, and touched you. How many of us do that in our lives. You were lucky to have him, and he was lucky to have you as fans. I think he knows what patriots fans feel. Its my silly belief, but I think he knows. I bet he loved playing there. :)

Its not so hard. He was a champion, leader, perfect in his time. When that time ends we all have to transition to being less than we were. We grow fat :), granddads, loose appeal. It can be pretty demoralizing as a man, after being king of the beach.
Seau, I think had mental repercussions from football, and so maybe couldn't remember or think, and wasn't himself, and I think he knew that.
The frustration of not being able to concentrate, remember things, and knowing its getting worse, must be horrible. Acting violent when its not your nature because of damage to your brain, because of hits
You know what they say, a candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long.
I think he did what he needed to do, and I know god accept his decision to do so.
Some see this as weak, but I see it as a strength in Seau.
I believe he knew it was over and it was the right time to pass, that takes a lot of courage. Just my opinion. I looked at what you said for a while, and still feel I should not have given my opinion on this, but I thought you deserved what I thought, right or wrong.

Seau never gave up, he just went to a better team :)

Damn, I heard the 911 call from his girlfriend and really wish I hadn't. I'm not even sure why that kind of stuff is released. It's heartbreaking.

I'm out here in San Diego, and it's still the main local news story every night. Showing people crying and telling stories as they drop off flowers at his restaurant. Surreal stuff.

I'd guess in Boston and SD are where this drama is getting the most media run.

Are people talking about it at the water coolers and bars, or is just media mostly? I'd imagine it's not small talk. But maybe... let me know. But as you can imagine, here in SD it's the first subject of sports conversation and then right to the many sub plots that follow.

The funeral will be a circus.

I notice how you hardly hear much about Junior's time in Miami....it hardly seemed like he got much out of his time down there,I only wish he could have played here right after he was let go by SD

Seeing as you admit you can't control yourself and/or seem to look at anything I say about the topic of depression and suicide to be "argumentative," out of respect for Seau, I will refrain from saying anything else on this topic in this thread because it might "bait you."

However its clear others have thoughts they wish to share on this very important and meaningful topic that has obviously resonated with folks, not just within the NFL and its fans, but with society in general.

So I'd suggest you stay away from this thread entirely, out of respect for Junior, lest other people's comments provide too much "bait" and cause you to lose control.

Excellent piece from a SD writer. It's complicated, and CTE is just part of it. They do need to do something about it beyond researching the long term since many can be helped with early intervention in the short term. The problem seems to be everyone wants the league to be the somebody. They already do a lot to try and help players educate themselves and prepare for second careers. Someone needs to monitor them better from the point they transistion out though because despite second careers and money and something is still missing. Might be time to help themselves. Their union would be a locigal conduit except they are on record saying that retirees are not their constituents.

Seau's death sheds light on strain of life after football | UTSanDiego.com

There are approximately 33,000 suicides (rough estimate based on population) a year in the U.S.

I find it extremely hard to pigeonhole a football player's suicide as being directly related to the game or concussions.

Hey thanlks for the advice big guy.
I said nothing about losing control, I said that I will not wish to respond, or leave your comments unresponded to, so I asked please, 3 times to stop. I will pass on the attempt to bait with the insulting comments you made herein and chalk it up to you being unable to just let it go, without feeling you got some kind of sarcastic upper hand. Bully for you!!!!
I have no problem with the thread, just the path that your responses to my post was leading to. Post all you want, in this thread, and I will too, but reaching an agreement to disagree and drop it between us is prudent.

In the 3 seasons he spent in New England, it is nice to see your fans care so much. Everybody cared for Junior everywhere he went but it is nice to see it here.

It is devastating news to Charger fans and a huge, huge blow to the City of San Diego. Seau was a local kid who was in the newspapers from highschool from playing football and staring at Oceanside High and taking his HS Basketball team to the championship game. He was in the local papers a lot even before he became a Charger. He was loved even back then and then as he went up the road to USC and became a bigger star, so it was so big that he was drafted by the Chargers and well, as you can imagine after spending 13 seasons there, he was much beloved and was a big part of the community giving back with his foundation and his restaurants are a great place to g

This is as big a shock as anything ive seen in my lifetime and that 911 call is just brutal and i feel for his GF. Anyways as fans of other teams we can come together on this and feel the same for a great player and great person. Still hard for me to think about it and see pictures of Junior in his Chargers uniform and know he is gone.

Cheers

PS- There is going to be a celebration of Seau's life at Qualcomm stadium on Friday along with a memorial paddle out from his home tomorrow.

Here is the article.

I just listened to the 911 call. I had to stop when she was trying to drop him off the bed on to the floor. That poor girl. Her life will never be the same. She will suffer from this for the rest of her life. I hope she has a gpod support system.
