This is such sad news. May he rest in peace.

Praying for his family. Knew he had some personal problems. But really sad for his family.

Re: Junior Seau has reportedly died

As Bedard just tweeted, North County Times is now reporting it was a suicide.

Yes, it is a tragedy. I'm sorry if this seems callous, but from what I've read I'm really critical of the police investigating this.
I don't know all the details of the Seau case but I've seen many cops on TV.

Pretend you are a police detective a guy is dead. He took a shot gun blast to the chest. Nearby is a hand gun.

Would you say this obviously a suicide?

OK, I'll buy he wanted his concussion riddled brain studied, so he shot himself in the chest. But - and correct me if I'm wrong because I'm not a gun guy - is not a hand gun easier to handle and with hollow point bullets it is as likely to hit a vital organ. Is the theory the depressed guy went out of his way and got the shot gun?

Treat this as a murder and interview the usual suspects so it can be solved in an hour.:)

Really really sad news. I don't know what personal issues he had, but it seems like pro football has taken its toll on a lot of guys, especially hard-nosed players like Junior that took and doled out a lot of violent hits, etc.

I will never forget his service to the Patriots in the 2007 season, then being available on BB's speed dial and admirably coming back in 2008 (when he could barely still play) during the Afailus Thomas/Gary Guyton-at-LB fiasco.

Always a Patriot. RIP

I am really confused. Thus this imply that all those life lessons he likes to tell young players were all hallow or what? He appeared to be so grounded.
I am now sad and upset at the same time. Why don't they try to reach out? Why? In Seau's case, he gave a strong signal in 2010, he managed to fool the whole world to let him be.
He really planned this if you make inference into the simple "Love you" text to kids and ex-wife yesterday.

Haven't been on the net all day and log in to see this. Just horrible. At a loss for words. Just so sad.

Trust me on this. If you are in depression that bad reaching out is not what you're thinking about. It is easier to hide than you think. And this doesn't make anything he said hollow at all.

Sometimes you want better for other people than you feel like you deserve for yourself.

Horrible news, may he rest in peace. Suicide is a serious issue, it's too bad he didn't(or maybe it didn't work) get help when he drove the car off the cliff if that was an attempt. Nobody should lose a brother/father/friend this way.

I wouldn't say that. This doesn't take anything away from the life lessons that he preached. I'd say that it means that he, for whatever reason, was very ill, and was clearly not in the right state of mind. Depression can take you to a very dark and irrational place, but that doesn't invalidate the positive sentiments that you previously had.

When I heard about this today, I was absolutely stunned. I still feel like I can't believe it.

Re: Junior Seau has reportedly died

I'm sort of whatever with suicide....

I can promise you, if you've ever lost someone close to you from suicide, you could never look at it as..."whatever".

Human beings are complex.

Exactly. Lots of people think that it's a neat, black-and-white question of choice right up until it hits close to home. It turns out that reality operates in shades of grey.

Exactly. I learned about his passing five hours ago and I can't believe it's true other than the hollowness I feel in my gut.

RIP, big guy, and thoughts and prayers to his family.

Such sad news...May God bless Junior and his family.

Absolutely true ... the highs are high and the lows are low and lower. No rational to any of it and hopefully his memories will carry his family through this very tragic time.

What's particularly sad is that he obviously understood how to help other people, live a financially comfortable life, and have some fun (e.g. surf). So it's not as if he had "Nothing to live for".

it's also sad how we won't get to hear his great speech when he's inducted into the HOF in a couple years

that would have been a really great speech

RIP Buddy. Thanks for the memories.
