So sad. My thoughts and prayers to his friends and family. I cannot believe this...

Re: Junior Seau has reportedly died

I had never heard of this.....do you have any links to other players having committed suicide by shooting themselves in the chest (heart) so that their brains could be evaluated for damages by multiple concussions? I am not challenging anything here....just a curiousity to something that I was not aware of...thanks

That was Dave Duerson, ex-'85 Bear. His suicide note spelled out that he wanted his brain evaluated. I am not sure if anyone else did that.

Re: Junior Seau has reportedly died

RIP Junior. Was one of my favourite players when he joined. I echo that he's a first ballot HOF inductee.

I hope Spikes wears that jersey with pride next season.

Re: Junior Seau has reportedly died

RIP Junior....loved watching you play in a Pats uniform!

Statement from the Patriots:

"We were shocked to hear of the initial reports regarding Junior Seau earlier today and are deeply saddened by the news of his death. We were fortunate to have had Junior join the Patriots in 2006 and are thankful for his many contributions to the team over the next four years. He had a legendary NFL career and his unrivaled passion for the game quickly made him a fan favorite here in New England. This is a sad day for the entire Patriots organization, our coaches and his many Patriots teammates. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to his family and his many friends who will mourn this loss."
Patriots saddened to learn of death of former LB Junior Seau

One of the most refreshing personalities in modern sports, despite also being one of the great players of all time. We were proud of your loyalty and dedication to the Patriots, and wish you hadn't suffered the broken arm that cost you a playoff run. You were 1 of a kind.

R.I.P. Junior

I was a big fan of his when he came to New England. My lasting memory of him is bittersweet.. it's him and Bruschi embracing on the sideline after the Moss touchdown in the Super Bowl. He was finally gonna get his ring. =\

Man... I'm having a hard time realizing what I just read. It sucks we didn't win for him in 07. A true Patriot in his attitude.

RIP

i'm not at all surprised

he tried to kill himself a couple years ago by driving his car off a cliff...so i totally saw this coming

still, a very sad day, he was one of the best LB's i ever saw play the game, and one of the best chargers to ever play the game

IMO he was a 1st ballot HOFer easily

sad sad day

May he be the last to go this way
May players today reflect on this
Solace to the family and many, many friends
Loved his time here

Even as a Patriots fan since the cradle, I grew up with Junior Seau as my favorite football player. Though he was past his prime, his signing with New England had me overjoyed. Today is as sad as I have ever been over the death of someone I did not know. The footage of his mother in agony is simply heartbreaking.

Junior Seau brought so much joy to so many people, and today is a very sad day. We are all lucky to have seen him play for our favorite team; the moment he waved the ball high in the middle of the field, during the play, after picking off a pass against Cleveland is one of my favorite memories as a Pats fan. He was so overjoyed he literally couldn't contain himself.

RIP, Junior. There will never be another like you.

very sad day.totally shocked.

Terrible news, very sad to hear this. He was such an awesome player to watch and listen to, condolences to his loved ones.

i just remember all the great plays he made in san diego, playing with one arm basically on espn`s game of the week, vs the raiders

dropping back like a db and intercepting passes, rushing the qb like a crazy person

even all of his amazing time at usc, he was just so great for a long time in the nfl

He came out of retirement THREE times to help Bill Belichick: 2006, 2008, and 2009.

Re: Junior Seau has reportedly died

Wow, he is now the 8th guy from the 94 Chargers to die before 45.

Wow, that's almost a trend, what was going on with that '94 team? 8 seems like a lot from 3-4 combined teams nevermind all 8 being from one particular year. It's kind of a weird and striking 'stat'.

RIP JUNIOR and THANK YOU for everything:rocker:

I'll never forget seeing Junior's lower arm just hanging there, you could see the look of pain and disappointment on his face-ugh it was horrible. Very strong and courageous player and sounded so emotionally 'together', like as he grew older and went through some things he became wiser about life and football. He seemed so happy with life.

His send-off speech about chances is legend. :(

So tragic and so very sad :(

I don't get it...I just don't get it. How can someone so seemingly full of life want to end it like that?

Very, very sad. I so wanted him to get that ring in 2007.

maybe the pain from past injuries was too much

i mean look at some of our memories of the guy, playing with one arm, seeing his arm get shattered

it`s a violent sport
