The Patriots signed WR Jabar Gaffney.
In a text message to ESPN's Josina Anderson, Gaffney stated "I'm going to the Patriots". The deal is for two years, per NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora. After only spending a seventh-round pick at the receiver position, the Patriots seem content heading into offseason activities with the free agent additions of Brandon Lloyd, Anthony Gonzalez, Donte' Stallworth, and now Gaffney

per Rotoworld.

I think people forget how good Gaffney was in 07, and the playoff run in 06. Love that guy. He had 65 catches last year, and he can get deep. I'm sure he'll still got at least another year left of effectiveness. Also, if he agreed to a 2-year deal, sure sounds like he's making the roster to me.

Pats aint playing around!

Getting the band back together.....good signing.....he was very good for us.

This offense is going to be sick, IMO......

Getting the old crew back for TB12! :D Only we have better TE's than 07 and no Moss.

Anybody got that feeling that Belichick and McDaniels want TB12 to have every passing record next season ? LOL

I think it is finally the end of the Ocho experiment.

Lloyd, Welker, Gaffney/Branch.

I think either Edelman or Gonzalez gets cut as well. The other will serve as Welker's backup. not sure Stallworth makes the roster either.

Wow, the offense is stacked!!!

Great deal! I think you immediately pencil him as the #3 WR behind Lloyd and Welker. I think Branch, Ochocinco, and Stallworth are now fighting for the 4th spot with the two losers ending up gone.

Epic!!!!!

The best 5 target attack the leagues ever seen :D (Welker, Lloyd, Gronkowski, Hernandez, Gaffney)

wow....

Thats a fantastic addition.

ocho got to be feeling hot under the collar now

******* amazing.

Who needs a running game when you've got a receiving corp this good? :p

Good addition.

edelman ocho gonzalez may be hitting the highway...as well as stallworth possibly

6 receivers (not counting Slater).....?

Welker
Lloyd
Gaffney
Branch (unless his decline continues noticeably in the offseason)

The rest battling for 2 spots?

The WR guessing game for the roster got easier as well. Gaffney has improved on his game since he left here and is now an NFL #2 WR. (2011: 68 catches 947 yards, 2010: 65 catches 875 yards)

He's a given to make the team and be the #3 WR, so now its:

Welker
Lloyd
Gaffney
?????
?????
Slater

What a battle for two spots between; Ocho, Branch, Gonzalez, Stallworth, Edelman, Underwood, Ebert.

The Oliver Stone in me wonders how long Wes Welker is for this world. Without WW....

Branch
Gaffney
Lloyd
Gonzalez
Stallworth
Edelman

...and those guys aren't even the primary receivers as Gronk and AH are.

Branch, Ochocinco, Stallworth, Gonzales, Underwood, Slater, and Edelman fighting for how many spots after Wes/Llloyd/Jabar?

Branch, Ochocinco, Stallworth, Gonzales fighting for one spot,
Slater a ST lock,
Edelman, Underwood, and perhaps the rook fighting for another ST/WR spot?

That would seem to be a full house.

I like it.

Priority list:
1.) Welker
2.) Gronkowski
3.) Lloyd
4.) Hernandez
5.) Gaffney/Branch
6.) Branch/Gaffney
7.) Stallworth
8.) Gonzalez
9.) Ebert

ST/WR/Defense
1.) Slater
2.) Edelman

Sorta how I see it stacking up currently. I think we're going to have some great competition this year going into camp. I like this list a lot, don't want to see any of them go, really.

I see one of Branch/Gaffney getting cut, Gonzalez out, Ebert to PS, and probably Stallworth out. That leaves us with 7 WR assuming both Slater and Edelman stick around for their versatility in playing all 3 units when needed. We'll lack the elite speed but have better #2/3 WR options than last season.

Edit: After all that I completely forgot Ochocinco, he's gotta be feeling the pressure now. His roster spot I feel is 100% dependent on his knowledge, and we have already signed a pair of receivers who played well in the system before with TB, not counting Lloyd who has thrived under Josh McD.

With how much we're stacking the WR position, do we sign another RB? Our roster is getting tight going into the season potentially having a fullback and 3rd TE that we lacked last year.

On paper, the offense next season is going to be ridiculously similar to the '07 one. Barring injuries, I'm sure we're gonna have a lot of fun watching them.
