BB was on Sirius this past week talking to Kirwan and Brett Keisels name came up as a comparison.

Keisel??? He's more comparable with Jared Allen than with Brett Keisel.

I think the league is getting away from the two-gap lineman. It's great to control the LOS against the 3 or 4 teams that like to run the ball. But, you're better off with pass rushers because the other 27 or 28 would rather throw the ball.

I was in the Bequette party as far as damned good value beyond the 2nd (and based on the curve set by the Tavon Wilson grading system, in the 2nd), but Deroer was the leader of the "He's Jesus" charge. One thing you will notice is that he is the first out of his stance on every play. While he isn't blowing around the corner, he is the first there. I think that spin move really throws people off because of how much of an animal he is when he engages.

For a guy who is knocked on for his athleticism, those combine numbers... Forget the 40 because you only ever to have run 40 yards to get to the QB when Tebow is back there.

I love the high motor, he looks like he could have a big impact year 1. And for the analysts who said he doesn't factor in the passing game, what about the 10 sacks? I imagine for each sack there must be a few pressures, right?

The only thing I worry about is that I wouldn't be surprised if he leads the team in roughing calls. From the (admittedly not much) video I have seen it looks to me like he could have been called for a few blows to the head. Hopefully he can be coached up to avoid the head contact.

Lot of people have Bequette as a 4-3 DE or some kind of interior sub-rusher. I think the Pats view him as a credible 3-4 OLB as well. patchick has alluded to outstanding agility metrics, and here they are, with comparables:
When I see white dudes that size and 'short arms', I think of Matt Roth.

Bequette
6'5" 274
Vertical Jump: 34
Broad Jump: 9'5"
Short Shuttle: 4.07
3-Cone: 6.90

Roth
6'4" 278
Vertical Jump: 32
Broad Jump: 9'4"
Short Shuttle: 4.36
3-Cone: 7.65

I happen to like Roth and it looks like Jake is more athletic across the board.

Even with Tebow you only have to run 30 yards. ;)

BTW—am I correct in saying that, as a rule, if the QB is holding the ball more than 10 yards behind the LOS, something has gone horribly wrong on that play?

Is it Roth or Ruth, there was a very 'muscle bound' player out out of BC in the eighties by the name of Mike Ruth. Who at the time looked like a monster in college but never panned out in the pro game.

I have no problem with him doing a I told you so. He may not have been the most diplomatic person about his opinions but in the face of taking a lot of crap he stuck to his beliefs and if nothing else NFL talent evaluators agree with him. Wolfe and Bequette still need to prove it on the field but the guy nailed it.

I think it was more the assertion that Bequette was better than Coples that people ridiculed him on :p

Not many people would have complained with this pick in the 3rd round and we certainly got great value in the late 3rd with him.
