John Harbaugh is a cry baby

The Patriots were deemed, by the Commissioner, to have violated the rules. As a result, large numbers of people will consider that as having tainted the Super Bowl victories. Crying about it won't change that, and neither will explaining everything to those people. That's the way it is.

Not crying, just stating facts. And what is in the minds of other people, a large of mostly jealous haters, is not my problem. If it bothers some Patriots fans, then they have problems. I happen to be very proud of those SB victories and won't allow jerks to spoil it in any way for me.

However John Harbaugh is a current NFL coach. He should be sharp enough not to go there. He should choose his words more carefully. He should have facts to back up what he says, he's not a fanboy of another team. Just because he's asked a question by the media doesn't mean he should answer it.

I heard him say what he said and was shocked by the words that he used. He really should be fined by the NFL. I don't care if he appologized after the fact or not, he should be fined.

He never said anything was tainted. He said they were tainted in certain peoples' eyes, which IS true. He never said he agreed with that view, and in his follow up statement you can see that he disagrees with it.

His words were twisted and blown out of proportion IMO like many quotes

a since-banned village idiot said:
. A Rams offensive player said "its like they knew our plays before we ran them"

I should just ignore it but...I...cannnot... resist.....

Taping defensive signals in an earlier game gives you knowledge about the other team's offense?? How does that work?

IF you guys lived in jet country you would understand what the man meant.

the pats could go 16-0 every year and win the superbowl each time but their "cheaters"

.....****ing morons thats what I get from Harbaughs statement he was just obviously reminding of us of the uneducated morons who will never change their opinions.

and to be honest even tho I think spygate was blown WAYYYYYYYYYYY out of proportion and the punishment was WAYYYYYY worse then it shoulda been, If I was a jet fan I would rather believe it then admit my hated rival just had a REALLY dominant team.....

That might have been the fastest back pedal I've ever seen.

Here is his comment:

In the end everything is brought before the light of day when it’s all said and done. … So what happens is, even the thing in New England and the thing … No matter whether those things had any impact on whether they won their championships or not, they got asterisks now. It’s been stained. So to me it’s never worth it.

Either I need new glasses or he never said "in certain people's eyes". You are right he did not say "tainted" he said "stained". This is exactly what he said and exactly what I remember him saying when I heard it the first time.

So how were those word "twisted"?

I had no issue with what he said, he was speaking on the perception of the public that the championships were tainted, and will forever be, whether we believe that or not.

As fans who know what spygate actually was, we have 0 reason to believe anything is tainted, but ignorant media folk and fans of teams we've thrashed for the past decade will cling to it as an excuse for their inferior organization.

Harbaugh is not an idiot, and he is a far better coach than most others in the NFL, and he has been a pretty classy and standup guy for the most part, even in his losses. He has also done nothing but respect BB in the past, he shouldn't have had to apologize for what he said, it is just another case of the media twisting words once again, they changed the meaning of spygate, they put words in Harbaughs mouth, this is nothing new, they do it all the time. Look at Osi right now, Osi states that he isn't being a greedy pig, yet every articles title is written in a way to insinuate that the Giant's FO called him a greedy pig for not accepting an offer worth half of what an inferior player (Kiwanuka) is making.

This is a non story that has been twisted into something by the attention whoring media.

This is one of the best post of the threads.

If Harbaugh said "I think there should be an asterisk", or "I think there should be a stain on their legacy" then there would be a reason to be pissed at him.
He's stating the obvious-of course there is a bad perception or "stain" on the team. If there wasn't we wouldn't be arguing/talking about this almost every year.

As far as his apology I figure he quickly realized that people's comprehension skills are spotty (by media and fans) so he had better be VERY clear before things go any further.

I guess it all depends on how you interpret the words. I can see how you'd see it the way you did, but for me after his 2nd statement he clearly believes BB and the Patriots earned their wins. That's why I look at the first statement the way I do and think he's just talking more about the general perception, not his own.

Some of you guys have insanely thin skin.

That might have been the fastest back pedal I've ever seen.

You have to watch what you say when talking about boss Bill.

I don't interpret words. I take them as they were said and at face value.

This the first time that I've had a chance to read his full "apology". I'm OK with that because I take that at face value and don't interpret it to mean anyting else than what he said.

“While on the 98 Rock show this morning to talk about the run to honor O.J. Brigance and raise funds for ALS research, I answered a question about playing within the rules and referred to the perception that the Super Bowl championships won by the Patriots and Saints have a stain. My reference was to the perception out there that came as the result of the league’s actions.

“I could have been more clear that I was referring to those viewpoints. I totally believe that the Patriot and Saint coaches and players earned those championships. Bill (Belichick) and Sean (Payton) both know that.

“There has been some distortion about what I said.

“The original tweet indicated I pointed the finger at Bill Belichick and mentioned Bill’s name. I did not. I have so much respect for Coach Belichick and the job he does and has accomplished in his Hall of Fame career. I called him to remind him of my respect for him. I also reached out to Tedy Bruschi, who rightfully defended those Patriot players and coaches on ESPN, to tell him that I agree with him that the Patriots earned every victory.”
I still think he should be fined by the NFL as a message to other NFL coaches to watch what they say. Now I'm done with this and ready to move any future ******* threads to the Practice Squad.:)

Responding in such an over-the-top manner that you want him fined should be telling you that you're not able to evaluate this fairly. If he meant it in the worst way you're taking it, he'd be saying "cheating stays with you, so don't do it". Why on Earth would the Commissioner fine a coach for that?

Nope, wrong again, would you like to spin again with a chance to be wrong one more time as to what I'm thinking?

I think there is too much jawing by several NFL HC's and the the NFL should start sending a message for them to shut up. These people hold a loftly position as NFL HC's and should not be going out taking like fanboys. A really simple concept when you evaluate things fairly.

So all of a sudden i cant wait for week 3 !!!!

I didn't spin anything, Nut. You said you wanted him fined.

That's what I noted.

Whether Patriots fans like it or not, "spygate" is the best recent example Harbaugh can point to. Also, whether Patriots fans like it or not, all 3 of the SB wins are tainted in the minds of a lot of people. It's just the way it is.

I, for one, don't particularly care but, if people here are still bothered by it, remember that nothing new has come out about "spygate" for years, so it's very likely that you can change the channel anytime it's mentioned, and you won't miss anything important.

and then he backpedals and makes you look stupid
