Initially i was confused by the tavon pick but it kinda grew on me, considering 4 Illinois players went in the top 50.. apparently the media ignored them all (except Mercilus)

Everybody else but..

Is it just me reaching but doesn't Ebner & Ebert sorta sound like a law firm?

Anyway......

Hightower
Bequette
Jones
Dennard
Wilson
The new law firm: Ebner & Ebert!

Mine are

1) Dont'a Hightower- I love the way this guy plays, he's just in beast mode 24/7 on the field. Run stuffer, Pass rusher, covers TE's, he can just do it all. Reminds me of a Spikes/Mayo mix, intensity + athleticism.

2) Chandler Jones- He's our own JPP, maybe not as fast, but similar style player, the DE we've been waiting for since we lost Seymour.

3) Jake Bequette- Finally got our Conner Barwin, I'm a huge Bequette fan. Non stop motor, sack master who not only sacks QB's, seems to knock them out. He's almost tied for 2nd with Jones as far as my second favorite pick.

4) Alfonzo Dennard- Some had him rated as a first round CB, very phyical DB with hops. Some say too physical ;-) (ask the cops)

5) Jeremy Ebert- Speed ! Love the speed and also very productive, hopefully he makes the team. Possible Welker replacement in the future.

6) Nate Ebner- Maybe the next Larry Izzo, loves special teams, gotta love a crazy special teamer.

7) Tavon Wilson- No comment.

What's yours ?

ebert is going to be our kick returner.... with that speed. he's gonna be deadly much rather have him there than edelman or welker or even woodhead...

1. Hightower - For once Bill actually took the guy I wanted! This kid can play ILB, OLB, 43DE, all over the field. He is truly a versatile player. I wouldn't be surprised if this kid was the star of the defense in the future.

2. Jones - I liked the kid throughout the draft and was my favorite of the pass rush prospects but I wasn't fond of spending a first on him. Now that we have though I have no complaints. I think he'll be a bit rough to start but he's got tons of potential. I hope Patriots fans are patient with him because I'm not sure he'll make much of an impact his first year. Great kid from a strong family.

3. Dennard - Obviously did something incredibly dumb but a first round talent and could potentially be an excellent playmaker. If he screws up again, we're only on the hook for a 7th.

4. Bequette - Think this kid is a sleeper. I wouldn't be surprised if he had more of an impact than Jones his first year.

5. Wilson - Mainly because of all the haters.

6. Ebner - Love this kids' attitude and style of play. If he can be more than a STer and contribute on defense, it could be the type of pick that makes people say "where did this guy come from?" in a few years.

7. Ebert - meh not much more than a Practice Squad guy. Possibly a pre-season star but probably won't ever contribute in a regular season game.

I think yours are mine. However, I'll let you know for sure in about three years. :)

Jones - He can rush the QB. A beast with a lot of room to grow (physically and skillwise). BB has a pretty good track record for picking DE's in the 1st round. Medium risk/very high reward.

Hightower - He can rush the QB. Can't wait to see how he fits in with Spikes and Mayo. Perfect for the 3-4/4-3 hybrid BB has been working on. I have an inkling he might switch spots with Jones on this list once I see him on the field.

Bequette - He can rush the QB. A big butt to play LDE opposite Jones. If he can be as productive as Mike Wright, the pick is a no brainer. If he has a higher ceiling, then, yes please.

Dennard - As far as a football player goes, I prefer punching a cop to punching a woman or doing a mound of cocaine. Not by much, but it's such a weird circumstance that there just has to be a good explanation for it. Hernandez had some red flags and so far he has been a good boy. Let's hope that trend continues. I would hate to see him take a roster spot from a good player and then waste the opportunity.

Ebner - Rudy. First one down the field on every kickoff. Takes great angles and knows how to tackle, like (world-class) rugby players do. Voted "most inspirational player" by his teammates. There's also some film out there of him playing CB and LB in garbage time. I would put him ahead of Dennard if it weren't for how much help we need in the secondary. Reminds me of Edelman in that he doesn't have a position coming into the NFL, but will find a way onto the field or die trying. I'm really interested to see the battle for ST spots this year... easily my binkie going into training camp.

Wilson - I love that BB loves to draft team captains. I love that BB loves to draft guys with great attitudes who will do anything for their team. I love that BB addressed the safety position in the second round. I love that BB knows something that I don't about this guy. I don't love any of the tape I've seen of him.

Ebert - Looks like a good reciever from what I've seen. Can he play on ST? If not, good luck making the team. BB just making sure everyone knows that he is addressing the WR position this offseason.... for the 100th time.

Picking the first rounders as your favorite pick is too easy. Hell, they're first rounders. The question isn't which is the best player, the question is which is the best pick... we have to normalize for where they were picked.

My order:

1. Ebner - I have this crazy feeling that BB is going to go all "Matt Cassell" on us and turn this guy into a pro-bowl safety. And even if he doesn't, I love the idea of trying to. BB's comment "he's got a lot of football ahead of him" is what talent development is all about. The Pats can make a player out of Sterling Moore, and this guy's got a lot more raw material to work with. And, as a rookie, he'll earn his keep as a ST's ace while he learns to play the position.

2. Hightower - this guy is the new hope for a young defense that's still looking for it's heart and soul. Most important, I think Hightower is a natural leader, more vocal than Mayo, less volatile than Spikes.

3. Dennard - the perfect 7th round shot in the dark, compares well to Janoris Jenkins who went in the 2nd. I'd say this was a damn smart pick that could result in a pro-bowl talent. And if he sucks, cut him with no regrets. It's all upside. Great pick.

4. Bequette - I think this is the safest pick in the draft for us. He'll be a pro's pro, a team guy, a guy that can perform for us on Week One and will never disappoint. Not a high ceiling player, but will be part of the fabric and culture of the team.

5. Wilson - I was so confused by this pick, I spent hours watching film on him. After seeing the Michigan game, where they had Wilson playing in the slot, and then playing ILB, and then blitzing, and then gunner... I think I started to understand what BB drafted. I love the fact that the Pats have their own process, and aren't drafting off Mel Kiper's draft card... and Wilson is the proof. I am so rooting for this kid, to prove the mediots are idiots, the fans are ignorant and (yet again) I have no clue when it comes to reading BB's mind. I hope Wilson has a chip on his shoulder the size of the state of Texas, starts Week One and locks down FS for a decade. But I'm still skeptical.

6. Jones - not that I'm disappointed to see a young, disruptive pass rusher on the roster, but my enthusiasm is dampened by the fact that he has an injury history, seems a bit wide eyed for a rookie (is he mentally ready for the pros?) and the simple fact that we gave up a lot of draft value to land him. With just a little more effort, we could have had Melvin Ingram instead... :( I'm pulling for Jones, but this pick has the most bust-potential in our draft class.

7. Ebert - I think this was a complete wasted pick. Even if he is the next Julian Edelman, or the next Wes Welker, we drafted a kid that has no chance, zero chance, zilcho, of making the roster. I can see all the rookies making the team except this kid... unless he somehow wins a job as our punt return guy. But how could that happen? He is pure Practice Squad, so deep on the depth chart as to be useless. If he's good in pre-season, he wont clear waivers. If he's bad, then wth? Honestly, I'd rather the Pats had drafted a sick kid, a juvenile leukemia patient for example, just to give him the thrill of being drafted by the Patriots. At least there's some upside in that.

It's cool that we basically have two draft classes coming in this year with guys we really didn't get to see too much of last year:

Dowling
Vereen
Ridley
Cannon
Jones
Hightower
Wilson
Bequette
Dennard
Ebner
Ebert

That's a hell of a lot of possible impact players coming down the pipeline, if half of those make a big contribution this is a much better team

I'm by far the most intrigued by Jones- guy's an absolute freak athlete. He doesn't have JPP's 40 time, but he physically outclasses JPP by just about every other measurable attribute.

funny thing is Jones has the better 10 yard splitt. Unless he decides to go all vince wilfork on us and return int's, those other 20-30 yards aren't too important. An aldon smith type rookie season may be asking too much but he has the talent to do it.

Hightower - unless this guy becomes very injury prone i think there is no way in hell he busts. I think he is going to be a part of this D for a long time.

Dennard - What's not to like about this pick? Best value by far.

Jones - Love the potential

Bequette - the type of guy you want on your roster

Ebert/Ebner - meh...not expecting much.

Tavon Wilson - not buying into the Chargers were picking him at #49 theory. I think the Chargers got exactly who they wanted at that spot. I thought better options were available at the time. Time will tell.

Don't fool yourself. I think JPP is right there with Megatron.

The only real advantage Chandler has is his freakish reach.
