Just heard on WEEI and in print from Reiss that Warren will be back this season. I am pleased about this, just more depth for the DL. Gerard is a wise old codger, for sure.

Meh. Not bad as a warm body for depth, I guess.

Guess you missed the 2011 season, Warren played really well in his role, this is good news.

No, I guess I didn't. Warren is a JAG. Good depth, but nothing to get excited about.

I would argue that good depth on the DL is worth getting excited about.

hey the guy who destroyed drew brees and ushered in the philip rivers era in sd

that was a great effort play when he injured brees by accident

Gerard Warren to re-sign with the Patriots

I figured Warren would be back, but not signed until much later - perhaps not even until after week one. Obviously he's not an every down player but he's still a decent option against teams that like to run the ball a lot. There's nothing wrong with adding some depth and a player that does well in a specific role.

So you know that GW is a JAG, breaking news for BB and Cesario

Who is Cesario?

And no, I would surmise it isn't, as every team in the NFL has JAGs rounding out the bottom of their respective rosters.

It's good news. We don't have that many guys who can two-gap on the team. Warren's a big strong dude and he's played pretty well the last few years. I'm sure he's better than any 330-pound lineman we'd get in undrafted free agency.

I think the quality of his play has been generally overrated, but I do agree, as I said, that this is good news.

With Cleveland? He was a dirty player back then. I hated him. Still kinda do.

But he made some plays for us last year.

No doubt, he was a knucklehead years ago.

NFL warns Warren after comments - NFL - ESPN

".....He wants to clock Big Ben.

"One rule they used to tell me: Kill the head and the body's dead," Warren said.
The NFL issued a warning to Warren for his comments regarding Roethlisberger......"

"....."I didn't say knock him out of the game, I said just go across his head a time or two," said Warren, who was fined $35,000 in his rookie season for a cheap shot on Jacksonville quarterback Mark Brunell. "There's a difference."

Like what he did to Brunell?

"A Mark Brunell," said Warren, who blindsided Brunell after an interception. "But it's more of a mental thing than a physical. Rattle his head. If we can't be on his head we'd love to be in it........"

"That could change, though, if the Browns could get ahead or if they find a way to knock the 6-foot-5, 240-pound Roethlisberger off his game.
But how?

"One of these right here," Warren said, raising his elbow. "Right in the throat, how about that?"

But couldn't that result in a fine?
"Hey," Warren said. "It will be worth it."

This happened less than 3 years before the NFL fined the Patriots a total of $1.5 million and took away their 1st round draft pick for filming in public from the wrong part of the stadium.

He is purely a back up rotational guy now, but he did play very well against the Tebow led Broncos' offense in both games. He may see a lot of time vs. the Jets (assuming he makes the 53 man roster).

no, with denver back at the end of 05

john lynch comes in completely unblocked, i believe gates or leander jordan just blew protection, and causes brees to fumble, brees goes for the fumble, and dives at the same time as warren, and warren justr completely lands on and destroys brees` labrum.

then chargers offer 2 mill guaranteed, 8 mill in escalators, miami offers 6 mill guaranteed and 4 mill in escalators and saints offer 10 mill all guaranteed

and the rest is history

Alot of our Dlinemen are suited more for passing game and Warren will offer more then most on this team on run downs. I figure him as 3rd or 4th best DL against the run behind Vince, Love, and Deadrick.

For some reason this board loves guy that you expect nothing from who do a little. Warren made about 5 nice plays last year. That is a JAG. But since people were surprised he gets rated as if it happened more. Pryor is the poster boy for this.

I'm hopeful that the Patriots will find other scrap heap D-linemen to make the likes of Mr. Warren "shadow roster" candidates rather than players actually on the final 53.

I love it. He's tough as nail, knows his role and I am sure didn't break the bank. And he knows the system already. Oh, and wanted to be a Patriot. What is there not to love? :)
