Anyone think BB has LaMichael James on his radar? So far, with no RB vet signed, our depth headed into next year is Ridley, Vereen and Woodhead.

Given how the draft has gone so far, this could just as easily indicate a lack of interest.

Well you don't waste your limited visits on someone you are definitely not interested in. Of course it's no guarantee that they'll like the people visiting post visit but historically visits are a good indicator of the type of player the Pats are looking at and in what draft range.

Take this year. Melvin Ingram, Nick Perry, Courtney Upshaw all visited which suggested pass rusher was on the cards. They also looked at later round pass rushers so they could determine where the best value lay. They also had Lavonte David and Bobby Wagner workout - both second round nickel backers so again there was some interest in a high round linebacker. Reading between the lines on visits does give some insight although as you said, no guarantee.

That said, remember that teams CANNOT work players on visits. (They are allowed to do things like Cybex testing, but they can't bring in WRs to play catch with Tom.)

OTOH, one of my all-time favorite fun LOLphin facts is that they actually brought in Julian Edelman for a visit.

They had Doug Martin, David Wilson and Isaiah Pead in for private workouts so the interest is clearly there. Would it help if I said that Pead is a quality punt returner, was MVP at the Senior Bowl and looks to be a Kevin Faulk type, although in need of help with his blitz pickup?

Not even a little bit

No! NO! a THOUSAND times NO! to any WR or RB in this 2nd round. If you want another RB, go get one in FA there are a bunch of decent ones. If you want another WR (and I can't see the need, since we are going to have to cut at least 2 very good ones already from what we already have) Sign Braylon Edwards, This is DEFINITELY not the year to draft a developmental WR unless its a late round pick that can go on the PS. You don't draft anyone in the 2nd round and project them to the PS.

We NEED to improve the talent in the secondary. I'd prefer 2 DBs or a DT and DB, but if you HAD to add someone to the the offense there is a bigger need on the OL than at WR or RB, You only have 2 picks left guy, you don't waste them on luxuries

It's sounding like the Pats only have interest in DB, RB, and OL. They must really hate the DT group in this draft to have no interest in Still/Worthy/Thompson in the 2nd round. Must not care for the WRs left either.

Bill needs to make his annual trade with Andy Reid before this draft is up.

Maybe NE sends a #6 in next year's draft to the Iggles for a #7 in this year's draft?

Or...
we trade down from pick #48 to pick #51 and pick up a 7th rounder?

Given injury rates at the position, especially considering the Pats' historical penchant for running out of healthy backs deep in the playoffs, and the continuing quest to find a runner who can dependably make defenses pay for taking safeties away from their alleys, AND the efficacy of having young running backs over older, worn-down runners on more expensive conttacts, I still see value in taking a running back around pick 60.

Again, not my favorite area of need, but certainly a roster fit.

I disagree. There's a roster fit for a veteran RB, perhaps, but not for a rookie.

Given your position on this, though, I'll take some time to re-think mine. I don't see money as an issue, given Light's retirement and the current cap situation, but maybe there's something I've missed.

I think you are both underestimating the tactical nuances behind taking a RB like Pead. With more and more spread offenses (and that's what we'll spend a lot of time in), defenses will be forced to put only six in the box. Now if you have a RB that is a threat as a receiver, you can either have him in the backfield and motion him out wide as a receiver or alternatively do the opposite. Pead is a fast through the hole one-cut runner. With only six in the box, he's going to be very difficult for DC's to account for. If the O/line nail their blocks, a fast runner like Pead could be gone with just one cut. i saw somewhere that spread offense RB's will be the next tactical big thing in the NFL because it will be so hard to defend against. It's why I was keen on that rumoured Matt Forte trade.

Janoris Jenkins...

High risk, high reward. I live in FL Gator land and there is a lot of buzz about this guy that he is better than ex teammate Joe Haden. If anyone can get this guys act together I believe that BB and his guys would be able to do it.

Jenkins was a teammate of another Gator who got busted for partaking in the 4:20 festivities... Hernandez. I think Jenkins will be an impact player and plays a position of need on this team. If he doesn't get his act together, BB will move on quickly.

I can't speak for Ken (In fact, given his insane position on WRs this season, I wouldn't want to :p), but I can assure you that I'm not underestimating anything tactical about Pead.

I dont know if i would say that interest was there totally because it couldve just been a draft tactic. A smokescreen if you will.... but well never know

Just saw this on Trumaine Johnson on another Patriots board:

You shouldn't be a big fan of Johnson. He is a poor tackler (always goes for a big hit and rarely wraps up a ball carrier), routinely beaten down the field when in coverage, often out of position on both running and passing situations and he may have been a part of the sexual assault/rape charges on UMontana campus that has, thus far, seen the AD and head football coach get the axe. (Neither were technically fired, both contracts were not renewed.) These charges have seen 3 players dismissed and will most likely see 4 more including the starting QB.

I watched Johnson play the last 2 seasons, 6 of those games in person.

sounds a bit too familiar to BMW for my liking. And it's not the first time I've seen his character severely questioned. Me not want.

I'd like to see the Pats get a real returner on this team.

Gotta get some defensive backs. Janoris Jenkins if you are feeling reckless or a safer CB...

And today I don't want to hear anyone say "I knew that they were going to take Hightower or Jones..."

BTW Felger will be delighted with the picks last night; a bad sign.

I agree i wouldnt have guessed this nor anyone else .lol i basically wet myself when we traded up twice yesterday lmao

not with people kicking touchbacks i'd just give kickoff duties to edelman and woodhead

Where they doubled up on LB in the first round I wouldn't mind if they did the same with DE in the second round grabbing Wolfe and Reyes or one of those two coupled with Minnifield, Boykin or Johnson.

I've compared him to Asante all along. In a good way and in a bad way. The guy has NO idea how to tackle. Still, I think he could be a great playmaker as a nickle back.

4.61 40 v. Samuel's 4.49, trumant seems a little slow to me from what I've heard not that i have any clue what i'm talking about
