Is WELKER Traded before the season starts?

He has no trade value. So no, he won't be traded.

This thread should be closed. He will not be traded. At least not this season. If he signs his tender and doesn't get a long term deal, consider him done here next season. But why would the patriots franchise him and go through the trouble if they weren't going to try and put him on the field for 2012. And plus if welker goes any where else, he will only ever amount to be the #2 WR for that offense. The pats offense has been tailor-made for his style of play. He knows it, Bill knows it, We know it. He's going to either play under the tag or get a long term extension. He's not signed so we can't trade him. Once he either a) signs his franchise tender whose going to want to pick up a 1 year contract for 9.5 mil for a WR that they dont know if he'll florish in their offense. Or B) signs his long term extension then he'll have what he wants and the pats will have what they want.... hopefully. So put the trade rumors to rest.. least for 2012

I wouldn't agree with this statement.

I think he has trade value, a lot of players have some kind of trade value of some sort.

I don't think that he'd gain us a first rounder, but he'd surely bring a second.

The problem is that what kind of good deal would that be for us? It wouldn't be a good deal at all, as Welker provides much better value for the team then risking one more second round pick does.

Maybe that's what you were going for in your comment.

Wow, this Thread has turned out to be EPIC Troll Bait!! :D

Of course...What ELSE would one expect with such a title??

Seriously, there are 3 cats posting, hereabouts, who are clearly BRAIN DAMAGED.

But they DO amuse!! :D

While it might seem highly unlikely that Welker gets traded, I'm not going to rule it out and will not be surprised if he does get traded. He is on the other side of 30, his role in the offense where he is most effective (in the short/intermediate middle part of the field) is also where Hernandez is most effective. Welker is not indispensable. IMO Brady is the main reason why Welker became an elite receiver. Welker is a hard worker and a great teammate, but I think some of you are overlooking Brady and this offense's role in making Welker look great.

The ****? You forgetting 08 with Matt Cassell or even his production on the ****ty Dolphins? Are we already selling Wes short because of his contract situation?

To me he is a top receiver in this league and simply a great player. He gets open consistently and catches everything thrown to him. What more can you ask for? This talk of Wes getting 400 yards on other teams is utter BS(Pretty much the same BS that Welker was all about Moss). The fact that Tom ******* Brady is so reliant on him should show you his value.

My thoughts exactly.

Hopefully, both sides will back down a bit and they can get a signing done.

LOL......he's not going anywhere......

there is nothing new here......he is clearly within his rights to skip anything while he is not under contract.

he will show up sometime in mid/late august.

This thread reminds of the time I got into an argument with my dog.

And.....who won? And who was traded before the season?

I was traded for undisclosed scratches and a chew toy to be named later.

Funny, but isn't that what the Falcons are giving the Eagles for Asante?

Hey guys Brady doesn't need his left leg nearly as much as he thinks he does, they should trade it for a 1st and have him use one of Ocho's legs.

Wasn't Mankins suppose to be traded?

That situation was alot worse.

Besides, with the influx of WR's, what's to say BB wouldn't want to wait post mandatory OTA's to decide what he has going forward?

Don't forget that Moss raised a stink in 2010 because the writing was on the wall with Gronk and AHern in the house.

Mankins' situation was FAR worse and he still got a deal. It can be argued that Welker is just as valuable to the success of the offense as Mankins protecting the interior is. The two sides need to pony up and get a deal done yesterday.

I agree but take minor exception. Gomezcat is one of my favorite posters here.

Only if the Pats are getting a top 5 pick in return. And I don't see that happening. Trent Richardson would look SICK in a Pats uni though. ;)

What do you think?

It certainly isn't out of the realm of possibility. Vrabel and Seymour trades came out of nowhere and everyone was surprised.

I won't be surprised if Welker is traded. We added Brandon Lloyd, Dante Stallworth, and Anthony Gonzalez.

Edelman has been doing decent Welker impersonations when given the chance as well. Branch might be able to step into that slot role. Hernendez will probably get a lot more touches this year with Lloyd stretching the field.

Lloyd out the outside. Ocho/Stallworth on the other side. Branch/Edelman in the slot. Gronk and Hernendez at Tight End.

I just think with all the signings, it makes Welker a little more expendable in BB's mind. No ones talking about it, but I think theres a high chance Welker gets dealt before the season starts. BB has shown in the past he "does whats best for the team" and getting rid of Welkers high pay to make room for other signings may be a controversial move he makes. He didn't hesitate to get rid of Patriot favorites before, like Lawyer Milloy.

None of the receivers currently on the roster can do what Wes does with great consistency.

I am baffled and saddened at how some fans can turn on a dime against a player. Horrible.

Keep in mind that the same people are actually saying that Belichick can use Ocho to replace him. In other words they wouldn't qualify for jobs that require a paper hat.

Don't get me wrong because I love little Wes,but if Wes knows what's best for him it would be to sign and finish his Career here.

I definitely think Wes is who he is now because of who is throwing him the ball and the team he has been a part of.

If Wes was a receiver on just about every other team in the NFL,he is an average joe with about 400 to 600 yards receiving and no one would be even talking about him......Wes is a beneficiary of being a member of the Patriots and in no way would he even come close elsewhere to what he has accomplished here.

If Wes leaves NE,it's a mistake on his part because it's all going to be downhill IMO.

Every WR that's played for the Patriots in the Brady era has seen his production tank as soon as he left. While this is true, it's not like it's specific to Welker, and considering how well he played when Cassel was our QB, I think he'd still do pretty well.
