2012 Mock Draft Game Discussion

I know that in 2008, I had Chris Johnson to the Titans in the 2nd round.. The Titans ended up taking him in the 1st.. I also had Derrick Harvey for the Titans in the 1st round that year..

Do you have the link to the 2009 draft? I only found the 1st 3 rounds..

Other notables:
I had Richard Sherman in the 5th round last year.. And he's starting for the Seahawks.

Here's the link: http://www.patsfans.com/new-england...09-nfl-mock-draft-game-selections-thread.html

I would of liked to compare players production in the NFL when saying who had the best draft, but just for easiness I grudgingly used probowl appearances

Round 1 Selection #20 Whitney Mercilius - DE - Illinois - 6'3 2/8" 264 lbs
The addition of Mercilius puts a lot of pressure on former 1st round pick, Derrick Morgan, to produce. Mercilius will be worked into the rotation at DE and, along with Kamerian Wembley, will give the Titans a very deep rotation to ensure that no one tires out, but also that the best players play.

Round 2 Selection #52 Doug Martin - RB - Boise St. - 5'8 1/8" 223 lbs.
Doug Martin is that bowling ball type RB who will be great in short yardage situations and to spell Chris Johnson. This has been one area that the Titans haven't had and it should help keep Johnson fresher through the games.

Round 3 Selection #82 Jamell Fleming - CB - Oklahoma - 5'10 5/8" 206 lbs

The loss of Courtland Finnegan left the Titans with only 2 tested CBs in Jason McCourty and Alterraun Verner. Flemming's abilities should allow him to compete for the nickle back position immediately, but also help on the outside should McCourty or Verner go down.

Round 4 Selection # 115 Philip Blake - C/OG - Baylor - 6'2 6/8" 311lbs.
The Titans let starting center Eugene Amano leave via free agency and failed to find a suitable replacement. In Blake they get a center who playes with an attitude and isn't affraid to get down the field to help in blocking. Is very good with both pass-blocking and run-blocking. Spent 3 years protecting Robert Griffin III. Can handle shotgun snapping with ease.

Round 5 Selection # 155 Brandon Hardin - DB - Oregeon State - 6'3 217 lbs.
Brandon missed all of his senior year because of a shoulder injury. But the Titans are getting a bargain. His height and abilities allow him to match up well either at Free Safety or at nickelback. Hardin also brings a ton of special teams talent to the table.

Round 6 Selection #190 Akiem Hicks - DT - Regina - 6'4 5/8" 318 lns
Hicks is the second Canadian that the Titans selected in this year's draft. Hicks is raw, but he oozes with potential. The Titans have a history of molding guys like this into solid interior linemen.

Round 7 Selection #227 Quentin Saulsberry - C/OG - Mississippi St - 6'2 1/8" 304 lbs
The Titans looked to help the offensive line some more and increase the competition when they saw that Saulsberry was still on the board. He plays with a mean streak and is willing to mix it up. Will need to work on his technique at the next level, but, with one of the best interior linemen joining the team in Steve Hutchinson, Saulsberry and Blake couldn't have a better teacher.

Ouch, my SD draft looks rough in 2010. :D

#28 Terrance Cody DT
#40 Toby Gerhart RB
#91 Dexter McCluster RB/WR

Their actual draft isn't that good either, trading up to #12 for an overrated RB in Ryan Mathews, and then Donald Butler ILB at #73.

Kudos to hammertime, Colts GM that year.

Colts actual draft: Jerry Hughes, Pat Angerer, Kevin Thomas

Hammertime's draft: Jared Veldheer OT, Jason Worilds DE, Sean Lee ILB, Aaron Hernandez TE

It's cool looking back.

EDIT: Also forgot to critique BritPat on the pats picks, even though it's hard to rival one of BB's best draft class:

Pats draft: Devin Mccourty, Rob Gronkowski, Brandon Spikes, Jermaine Cunningham, Taylor Price, Aaron Hernandez, Zoltan Mesko, Brandon Deaderick. (couple late 7ths thrown in, Zac Robinson, etc)

Brit Pat: Brandon Graham DE (ouch :D), Devin Mccourty, Damian Williams WR (had a decent 2nd season with an average QB, not bad), Alex Carrington DE (ehhhhh), Tony Moeaki TE (win, could've been just a probowl TE in the pats system IMO, out for season 2nd year), then 3 no names

Honestly not too bad BritPat, Graham has been a bust, Mccourty is Mccourty, Williams would of been a solid #3 WR for 2011 and could of started over Branch, Carrington ehhh, and Moeaki would of been a stud here like Hernandez.

Round 7 Selection #227 Quentin Saulsberry - C/OG - Mississippi St - 6'2 1/8" 304 lbs

I think you did a great job. Funny, I would have taken Saulsberry instead of David Molk. Molk was not my selection but a pick made by the moderators. I like Saulsberry alot and he has position flexibility.

Miami Dolphins draft. I got good value at all my picks, but I wasn't able to align my biggest needs with the best available players on the board. My draft certainly wouldn't sell more season tickets, but i picked up some good players that could contribute now. In reality I could see the Dolphins doing a lot of moving around picking up more picks to add much needed depth if the top players at a position aren't there.

8 Quinton Coples DE North Carolina: I could see Miami overdrafting Tannehill here just to keep things interesting. In reality Tannehill is similar to Ponder or Locker and shouldn't be starting day 1. Coples makes sense though. If you can't get that elite QB you need then take the playmakers on defense and hopefully they can slow the other team down.

42 Harrison Smith S Notre Dame: Smith was a no brainer here. He starting to move up draft boards and could possibly be taken in the 1st round. Good value at a position of need. Smith will be starting day 1.

72 Brian Quick WR Appalachian State: Took me a while to get the Dolphins biggest position of need, but this class of WRs is pretty stocked in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Quick is in the same mold as Marshall just a little smaller, but he can still play the same role as an outside threat who can go up and get the ball. The question is how quickly can he get up to speed in the NFL coming from a small school. The Dolphins need him to start right away.

73 Brock Osweiler QB Arizona State: This is the pick the Dolphins received for Brandon Marshall I thought it was appropriate to take a QB here. Brock Osweiler is another guy moving up draft boards, but he is still in the developmental stage with only one full year starting. He has the size and and arm to play in the NFL, but can he keep up? If so the Dolphins may have found a gem in the 3rd round.

The last 4 picks weren't very sexy, but all filled the positions of need. All of them could be contributing this coming year which is probably more the case of the Dolphins are lacking depth rather then they are all good players.

103 Senio Kelemete OG Washington
145 Demario Davis OLB Arkansas State
196 Matt Reynolds OT BYU
215 David Paulson TE Oregon

Oh well at least they all got drafted this time. :)

St. Louis Rams

I felt that we added quality depth and addressed areas of need at critical positions for the upcoming season. The players we selected should be able to contribute immediately in some areas of need.

Round 1 Selection #6 Justin Blackmon WR Oklahoma State 6’1 215

The top rated receiver in this draft and a major area of need for the Rams. Blackmon is the 2 time Biletnikoff Award Winner and the big 12 Offensive Player of the year. His strength and hands should make him a solid value for this team. He has the physical ability to get off of press coverage and tracks the deep ball over either shoulder and bring in passes with ease downfield.

Actual NFL Draft Round 1 Selection #5 Jacksonville

Round 2 Selection #33 Mike Adams OT Ohio State 6’7 323

One of top left tackles, tall long and athletic pass protector with good knee bend and a wide base addressing another need position to protect our franchise quarterback.

Actual NFL Draft Round 2 Selection #56 Pittsburgh

Round 2 Selection #39 Jerel Worthy DT Michigan State 6’3 310

Enjoyed a breakout season earning All-American honors from the Associated Press just to name a few associations that he was honored by. He was the first Spartan defensive lineman to earn first team honors from the AP since the late Bubba Smith.

Actual NFL Draft Round 2 Selection #51 Green Bay

Round 3 Selection #65 Ronnell Lewis OLB Oklahoma 6’2 253

A very good athelete who plays fast and accelerates quickly upfield Lewis could be a good outside linebacker in the NFL. Nicknamed the Hammer by his teammates for the way he hits. But in a little more than 2 seasons he totaled 118 tackles 67 solo 20.5 for loss, 10 sacks and two interceptions. He looked good at the combine with a 40 time of 4.68 seconds and 36 reps with 225 on the bench press.

Actual NFL Draft Round 4 Selection #125 Green Bay

Round 4 Selection #96 Isaiah Pead RB Cincinnati 5’10 200

Has excellent straight line speed to be a breakaway threat at the next level. Plays with a chip on his shoulder. Pead was named the MVP of the Senior Bowl and in four years with the Bearcats he rushed for 3,288 yards on 545 carries and 27 touchdowns. Also showed off his punt return ability at the Senior Bowl with returns of 60 and 38 yards. Will give Stephen Jackson a break and present a change of pace back for the defense.

Actual NFL Draft Round 2 Selection #50 St. Louis

Round 6 Selection #171 T.Y. Hilton WR Florida International 5’10 185

Has elite speed and cutting ability with good hands and toughness will make a good slot receiver especially on the carpet at Edward Jones Stadium and will give the Rams another big play threat from this draft.

Actual NFL Draft Round 3 Selection #92 Indianapolis

Round 7 Selection #209 Mike Harris CB Florida State 5’10 185

Excels covering in the slot; has the ability to handle bigger receivers in the slot looks more comfortable in this position but also has the ability to play on the outside. Can play in both man and zone schemes and looks like he can help an NFL team from day one.

Actual NFL Draft Round 6 Selection #176 Jacksonville

Round 7 Selection #252 Danny Trevathan OLB Kentucky 6’0 237

This tackling machine can be the WILL linebacker for the Rams and he finished sixth in the nation in total tackles. In his senior season he had four interceptions, five forced fumbles, and five passes broken up. He recorded 143 tackles with 11.5 tackles for loss. Became the first linebacker in Kentucky history to earn first team All-American honors.

Actual NFL Draft Round 6 Selection #188 Denver

I got two Colts right when 1 was a gimme. Andrew Luck and Vick Ballard (a round later IRL)

I got one Cardinal right but it was 1st Rounder Michael Floyd. ;)

I was going for value in Miami's draft and I think I got some good picks (3 players inside the top 33). I didn't research any players Miami was interested in (outside of Tannehill) which is probably why I missed out on any matches.

8 Quinton Coples DE North Carolina (actual draft spot #15 to the Jets)
42 Harrison Smith S Notre Dame (actual draft spot #29 to the Vikings)
72 Brian Quick WR Appalachian State (actual draft spot #33 to the Rams)
73 Brock Osweiler QB Arizona State (actual draft spot #57 to the Broncos)
103 Senio Kelemete OG Washington (actual draft spot #151 to the Cardinals)
145 Demario Davis OLB Arkansas State (actual draft spot #77 to the Jets)
196 Matt Reynolds OT BYU (UDFA to Panthers)
215 David Paulson TE Oregon (actual draft spot #240 to the Steelers)
