Patriots hire Chris Simms

Simms feels the need to constantly speak and he says absolute nonsense, half of which is obvious to anyone with a brain, and contradicts the other half of what he says. I seriously want to fight him.

Are you serious?

Be careful what you wish for. I'm guessing he might kick your *****. But, not knowing you, that's just a guess.

Sounds like a practical joke. Simms to Brady: "Step aside, and watch THIS."

Seriously. Beyond someone like Brady's recently passed mechanics coach, what Patriots QB coach can credibly tell Brady something he doesn't know? I would think that the Pats' QB coach would probably be more aptly titled "Brady's practice assistant"

Simms took serious shots from runaway trains like Wilbur Marshall,Dexter Manley and Reggie White twice a year for many years and got up just about every time....I am sure, even at his age of 57 years old that he is not afraid of fighting a member of a sports forum called Snake Eyes

You wear a Tapout shirt.. don't you?

COME AT ME BRO!! :D

Don't know what Simms senior has to do with this (better than a horrible TV talker lot IMO).

I can't see why you would want Chris Simms as a coach, he took less advantage of his physical gifts than most highly touted prospects IMO.

I hope BB isn't deteriorating into someone who does things because they're cool, or because of old buddies. I am starting to wonder.

Major Applewhite wasn't available? Seriously, if ever their was a coach on the field who played much bigger than his physical ability it was him.

For some time now here our OC has been the QB's coach. Josh may or may not retain that title this time around. Supposedly Simms is being brought in at the base level. Probably will be titled offensive assistant and could (like those before him including Josh) be tasked with performing a myriad of gofer tasks for both personnel dept. and coaching staff. I can't imagine he would get a position coaching title out of the gate here, although he could be the defacto QBC for Mallett and the PS QB's who often require more attention to things like mechanics than an OC has time to deal with in a high intensity offense like this.

Doesn't Mallet already know how to throw interceptions? I hate to malign Simms because he's probably a nice guy, but having lived in Austin Texas when Simms was handed the QB job and Applewhite had to save his bacon numerous times, I don't want him teaching my QBs. If he earns a spot, so be it.

Quite seriously, If I was an NFL coach I would entice Applewhite away from Texas in a minute. He was like a shorter Tom Brady, as far as intangibles go.

Did you ever see the NFLN show where Gruden was supposedly developing Simms? There is a reason Gruden has never developed a young QB and only succeeded with grizzled vets who could tune him out... Simms never had a shot on many levels. Where you land does matter. That said, those who can't often make the best teachers while those who can often can't relate well to others... Not to mention entry level jobs in the NFL pay like crap. Simms at least made enough in his time in the league that he can afford to intern. Perhaps he's a very bright young guy who is willing to learn. Those are the kinds of entry level assistants Bill is always on the lookout for. This one will also speak the language to a greater extent than perhaps someone who didn't grow up literally immersed in the NFL.

Wow, I'm surprised how much talk has been generated by my comment.

Anyway, if I ever meet him I don't have a problem telling him what I think of his broadcasting.

Simms will fight anyone who doesn't speak well of his sons, ask Desmond Howard.

All those shots from Marshall, Manley and White must of made his brain soft because he has been spiraling downward as an announcer for a few years now.

Him and Nantz are about as clueless as you can get

Major was here once, briefly. He washed out as even a PS QB. You might want to read up on his meandering journey to Texas. Sounds to me like a guy who based on Tebowesque intangibles was allowed to run before he learned to walk as a coaching assistant. He would have no interest in the track Simms will be on here. He'd expect Josh's job to be handed to him...

I said "If he earns a spot, so be it".

Having said that, I watched Applewhite beat out the taller stronger son of an NFL quarterback, then lose his job for no reason other than they were trying to push the more physically imposing Simms and took the job from the one who deserved it until...

Simms was handed the starting job in 2011, but couldn't finish.

Brady encountered the same thing, but had more physical ability. I always wished the Applewhite had a greed to become a backup (he was pursued by the Pats) cause i know he would have had at least one or two eye popping comebacks (though he was too small for an NFL guy, not even athletic like Flutie).

Seriously, Applewhite was the greatest field general this side of Tom Brady. Unfortunately, he was a small, slightly built guy.

Don't want to belabor the pint, stats tell a lot, but not as much as watching a guy for four years. Simms major attributes back then were a strong arm, 6'5" and a daddy in the NFL, none of which you can teach someone.

I've always found both Simms and Jim N. to be both fair and complimentary of the Pats. I enjoy their broadcasts, particularly when compared with Fox's which unfailingly make my effing ears bleed.

I agree with Nantz. Simms however was openly rooting for the ravens in the Conference game. It was very blatant, I get the underdog routine but found it to be in bad taste.

He quit because he had no future as an NFL QB because of his size, lack of strength and speed. He simply wasn't built to be a football player. He wasn't one to delude himself and waste time he could use developing as a coach.

I didn't say he should have been an NFL backup, I said I personally would have liked to see him at least once or twice, because he would have been the most prepared and dynamic backup possible.

Actually, an NFL assistant job is pretty much a grind, so good luck to Simms if he wants to pursue that. Don't mean to give the guy abuse, he had enough of that in his short football career.

Its funny so many people dont want him without knowing what he is going to do here . Sometimes good players dont become good coaches/front office men and vice versa. Give the kid a break. FWIW he wont be defining the patriots season so lets not blame him already .
