Replacing BJGE

Oh man, those tweets just make me sad. HATE to see this guy go. True Patriot-type player.

Reportedly, Patriots value BJGE around 2m-3m max..

Be interesting what the contract was from Bengals..

I'd be mad if the difference is 500k, and Patriots did not match... Look back
at the Ocho signing makes me even madder..

Fair enough, Supe, I'm not so particular about the individual player as I am about the specific skill set we need to fit into the mix. Barber doesn't suit you, fine, pick another. Just be sure you get me the guy who can pick up 3rd and 2, and punch the ball into the endzone from inside the 3 about 10 times a year.

BTW- I saw a number I saw recently, we all should remember when thinking about Benny. As our "lead" RB, last season, he only accounted for just 34% of our rushes last season, and under 4ypc. That's not a guy you pay more than what he got paid ($1.8MM) last season Nor should you pay that to the man who replaces him....unless he proves to be a lot better than that.

34% of the rushes is not just a reason he is not worth 1.8m last year. We all know he has not fumbled as a Patriot. This is highly valuable, and should be part the the equation of a "person's worth".

Would you rather have a RB that was 66% of the snaps, yet, fumbles often?

It'd be sweet if Woodhead catches fire again this upcoming season.

I find both of your choices to be unreasonable.

I expect us to sign a veteran at much less than what Bush got from Chicago.

?? That's what I said I wanted if we go the FA route.

As fans, we love hindsight. How smart was BB looking ahead and knowing BJGE would be a free agent and drafting 2 running backs. At the time of the draft, there was some pissing and moaning going on.

I would not be surprised if Belichick selects another running back in the third or fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Danny Woodhead will be an unrestricted free agent in 2013.

Not much quality left in the unrestricted free agent market except for either running backs on their last legs or running backs recovering from surgery.

Let Ridley have a chance to be the man. People here who want to sign a vet like Addai or Brown and give them 150 carries are probably the same people who call young players busts without even wanting to give them a chance to show what they've got.

There were some here yesterday talking about 5 million per.

I haven't verified this or read any reports, so take it w/ a grain of salt.

It sure sounds like quite a lot though. After the M.Anderson signing, maybe I'll believe anything?

I kind of hope we pick up a good RB in the draft. I really wish we'd just kept BJGE though...

It sounds like attempting to keep Green Ellis or Anderson was pretty much futile, seeing as how the other teams overpaid for them.

I agree with you though.

I don't want to see another RB spent on a draft pick though, we need to first see what's up with the 2 picks from last yr.

The RBBC system does not require us to use a high pick on a draftee, but instead possibly add a lower level FA signing. The chances of the draft pick seeing many carries would not be too great, in my opinion. We will have Ridley, Vereen, and Woodhead to take the majority of the carries, so any additional signing would only be for depth purposes at this point. My guess is that BB will ride the hotter hand between Ridley/Vereen, or maybe use them both along with Woodhead for a balanced approach.

If BB saw to it that he wanted a lower round draftee, then I could understand that thinking.

We have allegedly offered a 2nd round pick for Matt Forte, thats coming form a UK Bears fan...

Said rumor was started by Incarcerated Bob, and I generally ignore anything that comes his way.

8:39PMest:3/22/12:**UPDATED NFL RUMORS**Sources: Matt Forte is obviously unhappy with situation in Chicago -n- now 3 teams have emerged in "Exploratory" trade talks. Cleveland Browns have made contact with the Bears & are showing interest in the *Pro Bowl RB* (Forte), my source is saying interest is real high at this point. Also Patriots & Bucs have called about Matt today (Pats are willing to give up 2nd but not a 1st) - Bucs interest is not as much at this point, Tampa source is stating the call was just to see if Forte is available (Could get more involved later in the week) Bears are not asking for picks or players yet, but that could change before the week is over. In closing the Jets are not interested!

Green-Ellis tweets farewell message - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

"Pats Nation: First, I would like to thank Mr. Kraft and his family for giving me an opportunity to live my dream," Green-Ellis wrote. "Many thanks to Coach Belichick and all the other coaches who help develop me in my career in New England."

"How many ways can I thank my dedicated fans for your heart felt love and support -THANK YOU," he continued. "Its been a blessing to be a Patriot. #MHK player."

Also on Thursday, Patriots owner Robert Kraft spoke highly on Green-Ellis, saying that he has a "deep personal affection" for the fifth-year running back
.

Never stopped the Pats & BB before. :)

If recent trends continue we should see a cheap 1 year deal soon to push the RBs. But on the hand, maybe not, if u consider all these new FBs as RBs. I guess I do not, because my gut tells me to expect a FA signing, or drafting a rb in round 2 thru 4. Heck maybe a 1st if some dynamo is available.

no chance in hell forte would want to come here, why would he want his snaps cut over 50%? It would be a nightmare headache all year long.

For what the Pats use a rb for, meaning a distraction, the talent they have on the roster is good enough, with maybe an udfa rookie added.

BB has been scared of giving one rb too much playing time ever since dillon got injured and the Pats looked like garbage in that Steelers halloween disaster.

Heh i was just thinking about this earlier...i would be allright with an even higher price though. That guy is just a stud and he is an excellent receiver.

I know the Pats rarely re up contracts during the season but I'm guessing that BJGE would've made a good exception to the rule. Is it unreasonable to believe that Ellis would've likely signed an extension last season for an amount that would be deemed reasonable today? I obviously could be wrong but he didn't strike me as a player who was itching to get to F/A to break the bank.

BJGE's durability, production in his role and relaiability will be missed. I'm hoping the Ridley and Vereen won't be the second coming of (the once much hyped) side step dancing and goal line fumbling Larry Maroney. How quickly we forget. :D

I'm going to miss Lawfirm. Now that we have McDaniels back, I don't see a very successful run game. The Patriots run game will be designated to handoffs from the shotgun formation for the next season.
