Mark Anderson Signs with the Bills for 4 Years, $27.5 million; $8 million guaranteed

Did I just read 27.5 million over 4?

The bills overpaid.

Rappaport tweeted that he gets $10.5 mil in the first 2 years. If so, it's really a 2 year deal with the other 2 years being just for show. Still, 10.5 for 2 years, almost fully guaranteed, is a very nice haul for him. And more that I would have wanted to pay.

thats market value for a 10+ sack DE still in he's 20's 7 million

For a guy who isn't very good against the run and who accumulated a whopping 13.5 sacks over the five years prior?

WOW - I just got to where they published some numbers. God, If I knew it was going to take THAT much to sign him, I would said GFY along time ago and moved on. ;) I feel MUCH better about this now.

BTW- Good for him. Like someone said earlier, it shows what a benefit coming to the Pats can be financially if you play well. Its a nice lesson for the 2,000 guys we signed this week.

Bill should've signed Anderson to a 2-year contract last year, so that in case he had the season he ended up having, we would still have him this season at a much lower price than da Bills paid for him.
I'm sure Anderson & his agent would've jumped all over that offer, because they had few options otherwise.

I wish that Bill had signed Trevor Scott to a 2-year deal, because we now have to hope that he can produce double-digit sacks/hits. If he can't, then we're in big trouble; if he can, then Bill will likely deem him too expensive to retain, or even persue.

Manny Lawson must now become UFA Priority #1, overall.

Alot of Mark Anderson sacks this year was COVERAGE Sacks. Yes any DL or LB can get those, Anderson did NOT get alot of sacks on individual moves Like Andre Carter last year. Anderson = TBC II he's going to flame out. Bills rolled the dice on Mario Williams staying healthy and Mark Anderson getting stops against the RUN. Mario Williams has the potential to be GREAT but Anderson is Average at best...glad BB made him walk. IF Jermain Cunningham gives us a performance like Anderson last year this upcoming season he would validate his draft position. One dimensional pass rushers area dime a dozen.

Well, he's getting Starting $$ now, and he never would have here. I don't think we viewed him in that way. He was there out of need when AC went down, and did great, but I'm not sure he was worth that kind of jack.

Good for him though. Bills are going for broke this year.

20-20 hindsight Capt? I don't remember anyone calling for that 2nd year when he signed....though it would have been nice. Now that it looks like the "real" deal is $10MM for 2, guaranteed, its a little more in the ball park of reality. Its rich, but at least I might have thought about it. I don't know about BB, but I would have done $8MM for 2 yrs.

At any rate, Its not over paying for the Bills because they have the cap room, so they might as well spend it. Good for them. Its kind of nice to see them back into the division picture. There fans deserve to see a good team up there after over a decade of futility.

Terrific idea. Replace the sub-package doubt-digit sack end with a guy who couldn't rush his way out of a paper bag.

Wow, $6-7mm a year.
Pats reportedly had him for $1,375,000.

Come to the Pats on a one-year deal, and then get rich!

Well, good for him.
If he was going to go to the Bills, I'm glad they paid a ton.

They should have a fantastic rush next year.
That could be a real rivalry.

The Bills have Mario Williams, Marcell Dareus, Kyle Williams and Mark Anderson on their D-line...

And yet I am still more terrified of Aaron Schobel, by himself.

Make no mistake that BB valued Mark Anderson's contribution last year.
The Pats wanted him back and Mark Anderson also wanted to be back. But when you hit free agency, it is always worth seeing what your options are... and the option of a 4 year deal with $28m is far more than he was going to get from anyone else, especially the Pats. Good luck MA (but not against the Pats).

Well, I'd liked to see him return, but not at this price, goodbye and good luck.

The Bills D-Line is going to cause fear to a lot of QBs next year, it will be a tough test for our OL.

Now we need to bring some pass rush, but I don't expect any big name, probably we'll bring it via draft.

Bills are trying to be NYG west. clear the bills front office's mission is to stop the pat offense.

That is an amazing deal for Anderson. Good on the Bills. They're finally having at crack at building a defense to beat Tom Brady. Shame the Patriots are building another scary offense.

He would not have signed a 2 year deal for chumpchange. There is no sense in doing that. Worst case he finds someone else to give him another small deal if he doesn't play well.
I think the Bills paid twice as much as BB would have, and I mean the 2 for 10.5.

Guess you didn't really watch him play from the Denver game onward. Even the pundits admitted they were wrong about Anderson against the run. That Anderson played it well in the Pats defense.

And what he accumulated prior to his tenure with the Pats doesn't matter. What matters is the production he did with the Pats. And it enabled him to put up 10 sacks. Which I have no doubt he would have repeated had he re-signed with the Pats.

This is just not true about Anderson's sacks.

How do you figure that the Bills rolled the dice on Williams staying healthy? The guy only started his career with 4 straight 16 game seasons. he missed 5 games with a hernia and the 11 games last year with a torn pectoral muscle. Neither of which are your typical injury-prone type injuries..

Your claim on Anderson being a "one dimensional" pass rusher gets blown away when you look at the fact that he actually played well against the run during the few starts he had.. But, let's be you and exaggerate reality just to snub the guy who played well for the Pats.

Let's not start diminishing the performance of a player because he's moved on to greener pastures thanks to a highly attractive contract offer. Plenty of pass rushers are the beneficiary of coverage as plenty of DB's are the beneficiary of the pass rush.

Anderson played well for the Patriots, especially down the stretch.

Re: Mark Anderson Signs with the Bills for 4 Years, $27.5 million; $8 million guarant

In his statement today, Anderson was humble and pointed to Bill Belichick's confidence in Anderson as the reason for Anderson's good play..

Glad that he got his deal. Sad to see him go.. Not looking forward to going up against Buffalo this year.

Re: Mark Anderson Signs with the Bills for 4 Years, $27.5 million; $8 million guarant

paraphrasing BB after he got Welker - "there's something to be said for not only getting a good player but also taking one away from your division rival" -maybe that played into the contract he got...
