Patriots agree to terms with DE Jonathan Fanene three year deal

Some opinions from Scouts, Inc:

Fanene has very good natural strength for his size and wins with great effort, technique and pad level. He can penetrate gaps with good initial quickness and anticipation in both the running game as well as rushing the passer. He has active hands to maintain leverage and restrict running lanes. He can be inconsistent to hold the point against double teams and may possibly better suited for a 3-4 defensive tackle.

You can certainly take it that it's not bad news.
I wonder what they'll be doing with Ellis && Warren.

Ellis will not be back

Warren may come back during camp just like last year.

solid move, hopefully get a safety also. if we can make some solid pickups and a solid draft they're right back there.

Good signing.

Fanene adds depth and is a capable utility player for any front; can anchor on run downs and press the wall on distance.

Solid but not spectacular, which is usually the way the FO chooses to do it when addressing depth.

SI_PeterKing: Look at 2010 tape of Jonathan Fanene, and you'll see a terrific disruptive rusher. Good signing by Pats. [via Twitter]

SI_PeterKing: Meant 2009 on Fanene. Zimmer thought he was one of best in lg then

6 sacks last year, 6.5 in 09, hurt in 2010 so no stats. Solid signing.

Well

Brace is gone..it hurts both he and Butler what a waste

Most Likely will not draft DT in 1st round

Ellis on Bubble if not gone

Warren on speed dial.

Christ, this fanbase has a lot of morons.

Decent signing at a position where there was a need.

If you want big name signings and no Championships, head elsewhere.

Easy there Rick Pitino. This isn't the Midwest where all the fans show up on opening day to learn what happended during the offseason. Some people will be critical and yes...some will be dumb. It is what it is.

There's no chance in hell that Ellis comes back. Wright (retirement), Ellis, Cunningham and Brace could all be gone.

I Agree Cunningham is a bust as well..

A lot of Crables to let go...

BB likes to have a big stable of Dline and rotate fresh versus small number of high quality

Maybe we get a LB in draft???

They will probably sign at least two more DLine men, IMO.
I doubt the New England Patriots would sign two more defensive lineman in unrestricted free agency.

3-4 NT
Wilfork
Love
Brace

3-4 DE
Deaderick
Pryor
Fanene

I certainly hope the New England Patriots expend a first round draft pick on a potential 3-4 defensive end, i.e., Fletcher Cox.

His stats were Head & Shoulders over Ellis's last season.

Looks like MegaTroy to me.

A little long in the tooth but definitely fills a need.

Wow, dude is replacing four players! We may only need two or three DL, opening up a lot of space for other positional players.

A mere pup compared to Ellis and Warren.

count your blessings and all that.

Good player. SOlid signing. Hopefully not breaking the bank either.

Looks like a solid player with a motor........and guess what ...BB was really looking for a Samoan with long hair :) .....:rocker:
