NFL investigating Saints for placing bounties on players(merged X2)

Never give that NY p*ckerhead the benefit of the doubt.

Since Sean Payton is a BB disciple, it's obvious that it's all going to somehow come back to the Pats.
Payton never worked for BB.

Goodell will take away the Saints 2012 first, claiming that is fair based upon the 2007 precedent, and that he has no control over whether they traded it, and the Patriots should have known better because the violation dates back to 2009. The Saints are being punished for something that was going on before and continued after the trade, so buyer beware.
I'm just trying to figure out how he forces us to trade #31 to them for other picks he is going to take away.

I get the sarcasm, but, no, it is NOT possible. He cannot undo a completed trade at this point.

I've always thought that Sean Payton was a grade-A arrogant douche bag, so this doesn't surprise me in the least. Even though I like the Saints, I hope Payton never coaches another down in the NFL.

Also, I have absolutely no doubt that Bernard Pollard benefited financially from injuring Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski. I wish this investigation would somehow lead back to him as well and that he has played his last down in the NFL.

Other than that, I don't give two sh!ts about this story and don't blame Saints fans for feeling the same way. After they way the Pats were treated in the wake of Spygate, I find it really rich for some of you to pile on the Saints.

Trying to equate one team filming signals with another team deliberately seeking to injure people is stupid.

I find it rich that reading their board in one breath they are saying it's being overblown by the media and in the next saying they weren't "cheating" or "taping practices" like the Patriots which is itself a story overblown by the media.

Feeling rich to pile on the Saints? The fans still saying Spygate is worse, and that "bountygate" is something that every teams does it.

Have patience. They are in the "denial" and "coming to grips with it" phases.

It is like after a accident and you know you are badly injured, but no one wants to let you see your body and someone keeps telling you that "you're gonna be fine", while you are wondering how many body parts you are going to lose.

If the cameraman was in the designated area, there would be nothing wrong with what was done. That has been discussed as nauseum here and elsewhere.

Taping signals of opposing coaches, regardless of location, is against the rules. I showed you quotes from the Globe as to why, you tell me a Patriots fan forum and other unnamed places have decided otherwise. Whatever...

Something I learned this morning that I had not heard before is that the NFL learned of this in November but waited to break it until now to avoid the distraction during the season...

Umm, when Spy Gate broke, it was week 1. When the bogus story by the fat toad at the Herald came the morning of arguably the biggest game in the history of this franchise.

Yep, the commish looks like a fool for rushing to judgement and for blowing the situation well out of proportion.

So, I can fully understand why Goodell is waiting until the owners meeting. People may not like it, but it's actually the right thing to do since this is 1000X bigger than the incident with the Patriots.

I agree.

While it'd be nice to just get it over with, there are a lot of other considerations at play.

That's nice, especially since it was never proven practices were ever taped.

Jackasses.

Payton and BB both coached in the '07 Probowl and were assistants under Parcells. They know each other quite well.

All kidding and sarcasm aside, this is going to be swept under the rug as much as possible, with some fines and a scapegoat suspension.

Don't be surprised if they don't lose a draft pick either, to the consternation of an outraged, but widely hated Patriots nation.

Remember that the poor, downtrodden city of New Orleans hosts the Superbowl next year, and they'll be crying to Goodell not to spank them too hard.

ESPN will go tsk-tsk. This isn't a New York centric story , so it's small potatoes.

You said he was a DISCIPLE of BB. Coaching against each other in a ProBowl and having been assistants many years apart for the same coach doesn't come close to one being a disciple of the other.
By that standard BB is a disciple of Tom Coughlin, Todd Haley, Al Groh and Tony Sparano.

I dont think you are right. Goddell set a precedent and the media is clealy making the comparison and overwhelming calling this much worse.

I think none of that means a thing.

I'm sorry, but you are wrong. Saying you arent over and over won't change that.

My guess on the punishment would be .....

Fine Mickey Loomis $250,000

Suspend Williams for the 2012 Season and fine him $750,000

Suspend Coach Peyton for 4 games and Fine him $250,000

Fine Jon Vilma who was a prominent player named in the case $100,000 and a 2 game suspension

Fine all indicted players other than Vilma $50,000 each and a 1 game suspension to be given any week

Take away the Saints 2nd Round Pick in 2012
the Saints 1st Round Pick in 2013

There will always be a certain segment that go into desperation mode in a crisis, and attempt to divert scrutiny by accusing another of something deemed to be worse. Whether it be a team from New Jersey saying 'look the Patriots do it' after they get caught tripping a Miami player, a four year old ratting out his brother when he gets caught with his hand in the cookie jar, or an accused felon negotiating to become a key witness in exchange for clemency, this defense mechanism is thousands of years old and is not going away any time soon.

I would anticipate a whole lot more of this from Saints Nation in the coming weeks, and those that already don't care for the Patriots will eagerly agree.

Just for the hell of it, here is the evidence.

NFL rules state "no video recording devices of any kind are permitted to be in use in the coaches' booth, on the field, or in the locker room during the game." They also say all video for coaching purposes must be shot from locations "enclosed on all sides with a roof overhead."
That was re-emphasized in a memo sent Sept. 6 to NFL head coaches and general managers. In it, Ray Anderson, the league's executive vice president of football operations, wrote:"Videotaping of any type, including but not limited to taping of an opponent's offensive or defensive signals, is prohibited on the sidelines, in the coaches' booth, in the locker room or at any other locations accessible to club staff members during the game."

If done in a location 'enclosed on all sides with a roof overhead' there is no violation.
It is location, not action.

Furthermore to this, the NFL Constitution and Bylaws is available online at
http://static.nfl.com/static/content//public/static/html/careers/pdf/co_.pdf

Under Section 9.1 C, article 14, it states which information gathering equipment can and can't be used during the playing of the game.
Ray Anderson's memo was meant to clarify the location of videotaping devices, because the rulebook only states that devices that might aid the team during the playing of the game are prohibited.

Re: Breaking: Saints Break Bounty Rule

It won't be bigger than spygate because the New Yorkers at ESPN won't have it in for the Saints. Sad but true.

You are SO right here....if NE had done this sh*t there would be the full league witch hunt going on with a Patriots "Bountygate" going on the BSPN ticker wire....bunch of BS ..they need to do the full Witch Hunt on the Aints here!

As you will note, is specifies that it must give advantage during a game. Goodell ruled that the videos didn't give an advantage in the game the videos are taken. Nice try, thanks for playing.

I was someone on the fence, in the "waiting to learn more" camp about the severity of this. And then I read that the pool included bonuses for forcing a player to be carted off. Yeah... **** them. That's ridiculous.
