John Abraham (DL) - Atlanta Falcons
(Wed, Feb 22 - 6:36pm ET)

After speaking to the Falcons, the player rep for free agent DE John Abraham believes his client is headed for the open market.
The Falcons are severing ties as Abraham goes on age 34. With no realistic in-house replacement, Atlanta will look to the draft and free agency for a new right defensive end. Pass rush was a problem for the Falcons in 2011, even with Abraham on the roster and Ray Edwards signed to play left defensive end. Mike Smith's team tied for 22nd in sacks and ranked 20th against the pass.

Seems he still has a lot left in the tank. Assuming Anderson is resigned, and Carter is not back (which I hope he will be) I would definitely take a chance on this guy!!

4-3 only, right?

Eh, Carter and Anderson were "4-3 only" before they got here to. Just like almost every other pass rushing DE, you can probably stand him up and play OLB if you really want to and he'd be adequately effective. I'd sign him if the price is cheap.

With the success that we had in sacks & qb hits, last season, I wouldn't be surprised if BB went into 2012 with a multiple D again. John Abraham is consistent in both areas (sacks and qb hits)

No more old and declining players, please.

Not too familiar with him. Is he like a Shaun Ellis v2.0?

No. He is much more of a speed rusher, as opposed to a 3-4 DE. He is more like a Mathis type.

No more old and declining players, please.

What does he have in left in the tank? If he’s still got some good football than why wouldn’t you want to have a look and kick the tires? Most teams will discount him because of his age but if he can still be an impact player we can get him at a discount. Getting an aging vet doesn’t mean we can’t also pick up a younger, more raw player to develop.

John Abraham is old, declining fast, and a 1 dimensional player, he absolutely sucks against the run and has to come out too often because he's always nicked up.

No thanks.

-I live in ATL, so I actually see him play a lot. His career has hit a wall...

Say what you want but this guy has quietly been consistent for the past couple of years...remember, people said the same thing about Andre Carter last year with a very short offseason...Numbers don't lie, which proves that he still has A LOT left in the tank...Oh yeh, and we're having a full offseason this year...which is a plus!!

Have you even seen him play?

The guy is close to being done. And despite what someone mentioned earlier, he's NOT the type of player to stand up as an OLB ever (Carter did in WAS a little bit)

^You're probably right about Abraham not being able to play in space since he's a rusher that relies more on strength and technique rather than speed and athleticism. But still, if he's cheap and still effective, they should sign him just to be a 3rd down rushing DE. You can never have too much pass rushing depth.

Hope Carter looks good in camp and gets resigned to a one year deal.:rocker:

"Not too familiar with him."???

What part of that didn't you understand?

Oh, let me lay out my post so you can understand it a little better.

Abraham, who was a guest on the “2 Live Stews” radio show on 790 The Zone on Wednesday afternoon, said he wanted to be paid “12 [million dollars]-plus” per season.

“If I was playing terrible ... no question, five million,” Abraham said. “I’m not a money chaser, but at the same time I’m expecting to get paid like everybody else is getting paid. ...

“Check out the five top ends. Everybody is getting 12-plus. I made eight million last year. Everybody is saying, ‘Oh, he’s so greedy.’ How am I greedy when I’m just trying to get paid the same thing they are getting paid?

Too much. No thanks.

*On the other hand, the "*inserts a bunch of other crap to resemble a typical OTG post*" bit was pretty freaking FUNNY!! :D :rocker:

Tanny is a draft guru...maybe he'll resign with the Jets

Abraham racked up 4 whole tackles...and a sack...in the wildcard loss to the Giants...

"difference maker!!!"

12 mil a season??? Hi,inflated ego of the year winner!! James Sanders had more tackles in that game than this megalomaniac...
