Re: Patriots 2012 draft picks: Peter Konz, Harrison Smith, Juron Criner, Brandon Boyk

You are the one who is talking out of your arse. First you claim that Smith has trouble with tackling, which is absolute BS.
Smith was the one who was tested by the best QB in this draft, and did very well against him, not the other highly rated safeties in this draft.
None of the QBs Barron faced are in the same class as Luck. Not even close.

I agree with everything you said, but comparing the PAC 12 with the SEC class of athlete is a little off imo. I think BB would like the versatility that Smith has to offer and I agree his abillity to tackle should never be questioned.

Re: Patriots 2012 draft picks: Peter Konz, Harrison Smith, Juron Criner, Brandon Boyk

Harrison Smith presents good value in the second round in an otherwise lackluster class of safeties. Also, when it comes to the draft you can't compare SEC vs Everyone else and give SEC the upper hand based on athleticism. We've seen time and time again some of the most freakish athletes come out of no where. However, in just about every other category of evaluating a player you certainly can give the fact that they played in the SEC some merit.

I definitely agree here. When evaluating a SEC player you should take into consideration that they are the most overhyped players(unless they are named Jake Bequette).

When evaluating Barron, for example, you should consider that he didnt face a QB of Luck's quality. He faced plenty of mediocre QBs, while Smith had to go against the best QB in college last season and did very well.

Re: Patriots 2012 draft picks: Peter Konz, Harrison Smith, Juron Criner, Brandon Boyk

I have had considerable tolerance for Belichick's strategy of filling front seven positions primarily though free agency. HOWEVER, I can't see Belichick having 5 top 100 picks and simply passing on the front seven. It would take a lot of top free agents to have that make any sense.

Pick 27- Peter Konz, C: the best player at this point in the draft and fills a need.

Pick 31- Harrison Smith, S: the centerfield safety the Patriots need and a great fit across from Chung.

Pick 48- Juron Criner, WR: a few character concerns but the talent outweighs them. True Playmaker

Pick 63- Brandon Boykin, CB: typical pats pick, Boykin is a jack of all trades player who can also play receiver

Pick 94- Chris Givens, WR: the past couple of years the patriots have double dipped with skill position players and I think they do the same this year at receiver.

Pick 126- Donte Paige-Moss, DE/LB: major character concerns but as a 4th round pick the patriots are willing to gamble as they did last year with Ryan Mallett. Like Mallett, Moss is a first round talent.

I've seen 5 different sites that have knocked Smith on his tackling. That he fails to wrap up at critical times. That he tries to go for the big hit and misses too often. So, sorry, but I am not the one talking out my arse.

Ofcourse it proves at least one damn thing. It proves that your claim that he has issues with wrapping up his targets is a lie. Once he has his hands on a target, that target goes down immediately. He doesnt go for the highlight hit, he actually makes the tackle and the target doest escape.

No. It doesn't prove anything. Highlight reels are just that. The HIGHLIGHTS. They don't prove CONSISTENCY which is what you seem to be incapable of comprehending.

You talk about research? If you did your research, you wouldn't be so ignorant, you would know that, until 2 season ago, he played mostly linebacker. He started on his team as a linebacker, and that was the position he played mostly in his first 2 years.
Then, 2 seasons ago, he was moved permanently at safety, and had 7 INT that season. This season, teams knew what happened the year before, they didn't want to test him deep.

What does him having played linebacker until 2 seasons ago matter? It doesn't change the fact that he never had an interception prior to the move to safety. There are many coverage linebackers who have numerous interceptions. Again, you've not come close to proving any ignorance on my part.

So his career as a starter at safety in college is only 2 years, not 5 or 4. Instead of exposing yourself as an ignorant poster, next time stop talking out of your arse and do some research.

"below average hip flexibility" ROFLMAO. What a load of BS. The guy is a great great tackler, no matter what your ignorant claims are, has great hands, he's also very good as a pass rusher.

Dude, you've spewed BS in 90% of your posts. And you've been called on it by NUMEROUS different people. Not just myself. Smith is NOT a great tackler. He does have below average hip flexibility.

OH, btw, No one said anything about his pass rush ability. Fact remains is that he's viewed as a strong safety. An in the box guy. Not a coverage safety who you can leave out there in midfield. Think, Brandon Meriweather without the stupid on field antics.

Re: Patriots 2012 draft picks: Peter Konz, Harrison Smith, Juron Criner, Brandon Boyk

Ideal size for a Safety prospect – Smart, savvy and instinctual football player – Takes very good angles to the ball – Not fooled often, trust his eyes – Likes to come up and assist in run support and can play physical, but at the same time seems natural playing “centerfield” – Reads the QB very well and gets a great jump on pass routes – Not often in the wrong position – Solid fundamental tackler – Good ball skills, breaks up a lot of passes – Incredibly consistent production – Has the ability to play both safety spots – Smith is just an overall fundametally and instinctually sound player – Very coachable – Team Captain and exhibits a very solid work ethic.

from nepatriotsdraft....some of the attributes that the pats look for team captain, solid work ethic and smart and instinctual football player.

You're confusing front seven with DTs. BB doesn't draft DTs. He's taken his chances at various LB positions in the first three rounds and missed. He's much more keen on taking a LB with a top 100 pick than DT.

Re: Patriots 2012 draft picks: Peter Konz, Harrison Smith, Juron Criner, Brandon Boyk

I agree with whoever said that they liked the Konz pick but the rest of the picks were a little suspect.
The clear cut top rated safety in this class is Barron out of Alabama and he barely has a first round grade. Smiths value really does not come into play until the 3rd round. Maybe somebody will take him late 2nd, but who knows.
I have watched 4 full notre dame games and for what the patriots need (a rangy FS type) Smith is not that guy. I fall in the middle of the 2 guys who are arguing about Smith and say that while he is not a horrible tackler, he is a guy who likes to try and get that big hit, sometimes he does, sometimes he misses. Not overly fast and takes bad angles is another note I wrote down. Just my 2 cents

So what if 5 idiots claimed the same thing. Smith didnt fail to wrap up at any critical time. On the contrary, he doesnt go for the big hit, he goes for the tackle every time and doesnt miss. That he misses tackles too often is huge lie. Big f**king liars. The fact that you didnt even check and parroted blindly what idiots claim is clear evidence how much you talk out of your arse.

No. It doesn't prove anything. Highlight reels are just that. The HIGHLIGHTS. They don't prove CONSISTENCY which is what you seem to be incapable of comprehending.

They are not highlights clown. They are the vast majority of the actual plays from the game in which harrison smith was involved. This is highlights ( it even says highlights, so that thick empty skulled idiots can understand) Harrison Smith Highlights - YouTube

Uh oh, what a hypocrite. So now for Smith it doesnt matter than he didnt start as safety until 2 years before he entered the NFL draft, but for JPP is a huge deal that he didnt start playing football until his junior year in highschool.

Dude, you've spewed BS in 90% of your posts. And you've been called on it by NUMEROUS different people. Not just myself. Smith is NOT a great tackler. He does have below average hip flexibility.

Actually Smith is a great great tackler. Once he has his target in his hands, that target immediately falls to the ground. In spite of the lies parroted by the idiot scouts, he doesnt go for the highlight hit, he wraps up his target and thats it, target falls down.

Fact is, Smith went up against the best QB of this year's class, and did very well, tackling and in coverage. I noticed that you never once adressed this fact, you keep claiming that other safeties in this years class are better than him, even though those safeties faced real "feeble competition", all kinds of mediocre QBs.
But hey, for Barron the "feeble competition" doesnt count, it counts only for Wolfe. At least the resident clowns cant accuse Smith of facing "feeble competition", so they came up with other idiotic arguments to attack him, "below average hip flexibility". HAHAHA.

And no, I didnt spew BS in 90% of my posts. I didnt spew BS not even in 10% of my posts, not even in 1%. Numerous people dont like the cold hard facts, they come up with idiotic excuses like "feeble competition" "below average hip flexibility" etc.

That video is a HIGHLIGHT. An actual snap video would include all his snaps.

Yes, 5 legitimate and highly thought of sites that hold more legitimacy than your idiocy. And I don't mean Mel Kiper either. But, yes, everyone should take YOUR word over that of legitimate sites. Just because YOU say so.

They are not highlights clown. They are the vast majority of the actual plays from the game in which harrison smith was involved. This is highlights ( it even says highlights, so that thick empty skulled idiots can understand) Harrison Smith Highlights - YouTube

Yes, they are highlights, you clown. They had to be since it only covered 7:57 seconds. Are you honestly going to say that Notre Dame limited the opposing offenses in those two games to just 7:57 seconds of offensive possession?

Also, There were more than a few plays in both games where Smith did not wrap up, particularly on running plays. There was one huge whiff when he went for the big hit in the game against Stanford. Oh wait.. but you said he didn't do that..

Uh oh, what a hypocrite. So now for Smith it doesnt matter than he didnt start as safety until 2 years before he entered the NFL draft, but for JPP is a huge deal that he didnt start playing football until his junior year in highschool.

There is nothing hypocritical about what I said. But you clearly lack the comprehensive ability to understand that as well. There is a huge difference between having played a game for 8 - 10 years (or more) and making a position switch on the defensive side of the ball as Smith did and having only played organized football for 4 years TOTAL...

What is there to address? You seem to think that have 1 PD and 2 tackles is some kind of amazing feat. It's not. Especially when your team loses 28-14... So, you'll forgive me if I don't take your word on how Smith did "very well" against Stanford.

Yes, you do spew BS in 90% of your posts. I'm one of many people who have called you out on your garbage. And I can guarantee you that several of the people who have done so have more football knowledge than either of us.

When you actually post a fact that someone else hasn't mentioned previously it will be the 1st time you have done so.

What idiocy. This really shows what a ignorant clown you are. If you stopped talking out of your arse, and did some research, you would know that the actual playing time in american football is a lot less than 60min. Football Games Have 11 Minutes of Action - WSJ.com
According to a Wall Street Journal study of four recent broadcasts, and similar estimates by researchers, the average amount of time the ball is in play on the field during an NFL game is about 11 minutes.

Yeah, 11min of actual playing time. Let that enter and maybe register in your thick empty skull.
Split that in half for every team, and every team had the ball for 5:30 min and has to defend for 5:30min. Lets say a team dominated TOP, still it is very hard to have more than double the other's team TOP. So lets say that the dominant team's TOP is double or a little more than the other's. Lets say Stanford had 7:30 min the ball and Notre Dame 3:30 of actual playing time.
Of course, Harrison Smith did not make a play in every defensive snap, lets say he was involved(made plays) in a quarter of the defensive snaps, which is still too high. Thats like 1:53min of actual playing time. Double that to account for replays, account for the few seconds before the snap and its like 4mins. That vid showed 3:45 of plays and replays from the Stanford game where Smith was involved.
And thats taking it to the extreme and putting Stanford at more than double the TOP.
Yeah, those 3:45 min of actual playing time and replays are more than enough to account for the vast majority of plays Harrison Smith was involved in. Those 3:45 from the Stanford game are certainly NOT HIGHLIGHTS.
If they were highlights, it should have included Smith's biggest play of the game, when he pass rushes and forces Luck to throw an INT. Since it doesnt include this great play of Smith, you have to pretty ******ed to claim that those 3:45 segment from the Stanford game were his highlights. But then again, you spew BS after BS in every post you direct at me, so I'm not surprised.

So contrary to you idiotic ignorant claim, It is like I said it is, not highlights, but the vast majority of the time Harrison Smith was involved in plays. They missed some plays of Smith, but surely the vast majority were there.

Also, There were more than a few plays in both games where Smith did not wrap up, particularly on running plays. There was one huge whiff when he went for the big hit in the game against Stanford. Oh wait.. but you said he didn't do that..

What idiocy. So now playing 4 years of organized football is not enough to learn american football. You think JPP is a ******? How much should JPP have had ? 10 years? 20? Your idiotic claims are really idiotic. Others players have switched from basketball to football in college, and they had no problem learning football in 3 or less years.

What is there to address? You seem to think that have 1 PD and 2 tackles is some kind of amazing feat. It's not. Especially when your team loses 28-14... So, you'll forgive me if I don't take your word on how Smith did "very well" against Stanford.

Harrison Smith??

Interesting Prospect.

Lousy tackler, though.

And his hip flexibility sucks.

Brandon Meriweather is the epitome of a louse tackler. Harrison is decent. He will miss some like most guys because tackling has become a lost art today.

I deleted all the extraneous BS you posted because it has no relevance. There are between 60-70 offensive/defensive plays a game. And Coaches/Scouts look at ALL the plays when scouting because they want to know what a player is doing even if he's "not involved in the play".

BTW, That video showed only 14 plays from the Stanford game. Stanford ran 73 passing and rushing plays. That is only 20% of the plays. OK. I'll give you that it's not a highlight real. It's a snippet real. And not a great one at that.

Your lies. There was no big hit of Smith in that vid in the segment against Stanford. You cannot stop talking out of your arse.

Really? There was no attempt by Smith to go for the big hit in the Stanford section? *ROFLMAO*

Who said he hadn't learned the game? That isn't what I said. I said there was a huge difference in experience. I said that JPP was RAW. Which he was. BTW, there are plenty of players who continue to learn things in the NFL from the day the enter to the day they leave. Acting like that isn't fact shows that you don't understand the game.

2 tackles? You really are talking out of your arse. You cant even count. There were a whole lot more than 2 tackles from Smith in that vid in the segment against Stanford.

Smith had 2 solo tackles and 2 assisted tackles against Stanford. That is what he was credited with.

Clearly you are just pissed that people don't have a hard on over Smith the way you do. Enjoy the ignore list..

Re: Patriots 2012 draft picks: Peter Konz, Harrison Smith, Juron Criner, Brandon Boyk

Harrison Smith looks more like a SS than a FS. I'll pass on him unless he is there in the 4th and later rounds.

Re: Patriots 2012 draft picks: Peter Konz, Harrison Smith, Juron Criner, Brandon Boyk

If the Pats feel that Smith's technique is all that is the issue and they draft him, great. But I just don't see him being 1st round caliber. Maybe with the 63rd pick in round 2..

Re: Patriots 2012 draft picks: Peter Konz, Harrison Smith, Juron Criner, Brandon Boyk

@PackerReport with a quote from Peter Konz today:

My major is radio-television-film. I love it. I love attention! I don’t know. As a kid, my mom would put on Brett Favre interviews and I loved how he didn’t talk about, ‘We played a great game. We gave 100 percent. We respect the other team.’ I wanted to break that cycle. I wanted to be that guy to say, ‘You know what? I’ve got a personal story. I’ve got more tied into this game than somebody else might have.’ For instance, I’m in Indianapolis and I feel at home because I was baptized at a church on Meridian Street and my grandparents live here, I’ve got cousins here. It’s just nice to be in Indy and it’s a great honor to be here.

Doesn't sound very Patriot-like to me! :p
