The steakhouse Facebook page is starting to go on the offensive -- just a little. They're claiming that Fred and Steve have no access to it or read it. They also say they could delete the anti-Steve comments but are letting them stand as to not spoil everyone's "fun." What nonsense.

I just responded to that:

F&S: Thanks to all our new fans who have increased our traffic 1200%. We welcome your comments and feedback. Instead of responding, we choose to just allow the comments, as we do have the ability to delete them. But that would ruin everyone's fun.

and then...

F&S: Steve is aware and his thoughts and apologies have been broadcast over WEEI. The page traffic is up and so is business. Fortunately, not everyone who dines with us feels the same as those who have shared their comments. We welcome the feedback as everyone has a say on Facebook

Me: I can comment on this page and I didn't "like" it so you are mistaken that you've generated new "fans". What you've generated is traffic - and I highly doubt that is translating into revenue. I did feel bad for the workers at this establishment - but after the sarcasm displayed here, by whom I presume is a manager, I am not so disturbed by it. Too bad - instead of adding to the fire by being mocking, perhaps you should have channeled that energy toward convincing Steve that he needs to be contrite and truly apologetic instead of defiant and arrogant. As far as deleting all the comments - yeah good luck with that. There will be more faster than you can keep up and you guys know it.

F&S: We won't delete them Dennis. Free speech for all.

Me: It's disturbing how lightly this is being taken by your establishment - you would think that facing such public outrage and calls for a boycott, the staff would attempt to empathize with how people are feeling and adress their concerns with some humility. Instead you post with sarcasm and disdain. It's the epitomy of arrogance.

It really is arrogant. Just like Steve, they think they can talk down to us and waltz along their merry way.

The thing that bothers me most is I've now taken a STRONG dislike to DeOssie yet he shows up on a lot of important Pats-related media. He's hard to get away from if you're a Pats fan. Switching from WEEI to 98.5 is easy enough, but he's on plenty of television programming as well. If he's there it'll take a lot of enjoyment out of it for me. And there are PLENTY of worthy local replacements who could and would do much better.

Well I consider this a victory - after literally telling me (me specifically - by name) that comments wouldn't be deleted, the Steakhouse FB page deleted my comments and blocked my ability to comment on their page. Talk about hypocritical.

Guess it's hard to argue with a rational argument - better to just make it go away.

I'm honestly thinking about starting a website - I have experience running a Pats website in the past, and I'm seriously think of starting www.DitchDeOssie.com

I might even have some T-shirts made up.

What the hell?! I saw that and thought you deleted them.

Count me in as a participant.

count me in. boycotting deossies shows will be easy for me . especially 5thQ and the other shows on cbstv4. they are nothing but non stop advertisements anyway. you can get the post game interviews anywhere.

Whoever is running the Steakhouse Facebook page finally caved in and started deleting posts. Every single anti-DeOssie comment has now been removed. So much for their phony "free speech" charade. I've also been blocked from comment.

Small Speedbump. How are they blocking it?

I have to say I am surprised that more and more columnist from Boston are defending this guy. If this hasn't been brought up yet, Chad Finn just wrote an article defending him as well.

They removed ALL anti-Steve posts (and there were quite a few). They also have disabled the ability to comment on their own posts and the ability to initiate a comment on their wall. Rather than deal with things directly they're trying to erase the problem in hopes it'll go away.

But "its all good!!" Right Steve??? "Its all good!"

That's DeOssie's other problem. He left the playing field littered with one liners that he is going to be left hearing for might turn out to be a very long time.

Thats the way scandals are handled in our ADD society these days. How many times has a politician just rode out the storm of a scandal that would have forced that same politician to resign twenty years ago. These people probably figure that every bodys attention will be diverted by something new within a week, and it will all be forgotten.

Noithing they can do about Yelp, Trip Advisor et al.

Basically the local media and their websites are taking the same tack they took with Tomasse. I remember before his little faux pas Felger et al stating he'd better be right or he was done here. Then once they found out he wasn't they changed their tune. He was just an innocent dupe, or dope. Circle the wagons, block or talk around critics, lambast critics. Problem with DeOssie is they can't move him to the baseball beat.

I never watch the idiotic Comcast sports shows. But I do like to watch the actual gameday coverage on CBS. They are the only employers who seemed to say they would monitor the situation. Ramp up pressure on them including via the Krafts and you might get somewhere. Lose that gig and his profile starts to diminish and that eventually costs him radio and comcast time. There are plenty of former NEP players who are eminently more qualified to serve as analysts these days than there were in 2001... Guys like Steve and Fred basically used the platform tenuous association with the area or the team provided them to feather their own nests, financially and other ways... Time those opportunities went to guys who actually earned a platform and some post career earning opportunities here.

Media will defend media.

Well my Wikipedie posting ( yeah I know) got vetted and is now part of his legacy:

"DeOssie, who had created a career on several television and radio stations in the Boston area as a New England Patriots football analyst, created public rage throughout New England when he, as a paid performer at a New York Giants pep rally , openly and on camera belittled and disparaged Patriots players, fans, his fellow Boston area reporters and New England in general prior to Super Bowl XLVI."

Steve DeOssie - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Unfortunately someone ranted about DeOssie in the 'career section', but I assume that will get removed per WIKI rules.

Yup, agreed on all counts. Troy Brown, Fauria, Zolak, and it seems Ty Law all live here now. I don't remember who else. Any of those guys would be a worthy replacement to DeOssie, whose on-camera presence never has seemed that compelling or even comfortable. To tell you the truth I always have kind of liked Fred and his insights, but he -- and especially enabler Glen Ordway -- have become tarnished by association. Time for a changing of the guard.
