Doesn't even compare to 2007 Loss

Haven't read all the threads since the SB, but I'm guessing someone's already said this: This loss does not compare to how I felt after 2007. Not even close. After the 2007/8 SB loss I couldn't even watch sports stations/espn/nfl network for at least 6 months.

This loss sucks, but honestly I was kind of expecting it. Giants were the last team I wanted us to face in the SB. 1 hour after this loss I was over it. In my mind it was somewhat expected, and throughout the game I didn't feel confident with our winning. IMO if we ended up winning, we lucked out, cause lets face it, we were sucking on all cylinders.

That said, I don't think any loss in any sport will ever compare to how I felt after the 2007 SB. After that, its all.. meh.

So for those about to jump off a bridge... this ain't the time. 2007 was the time p;)
I agree the pats were suppose to rout the Giants, we all felt that. So when i didn't happen it was a complete shock. This year how many Realistically thought the Pats would even get to the SB? I know i didn't. I'm dissipointed tht they didn't win, they had enough oppotunities to do so. But i'm pretty sure the Pats will be back to the SB before the Giants

I'm mostly sad the season is over, but push away from the table quite satisfied that we had an extraordinary feast in 2011-12.

This loss in SB 46 is not in the same ball park as the 2007 SB42 loss with the perfect season in the wake of Spygate on the line. In the four SB losses, I put this ahead of SB 42, and the 1986 Bears rout with humiliation at the end when they hand the ball to William "Refrigerator" Perry instead of Sweetness.

This year feels like 1996 when they lost to the Packers and Brett Favre and Reggie White. The Packers were overall a better team, Holmgren had those guys focused, Parcells had one step out the door and the whole "buy the groceries" crap unfolded. We were bummed to lose, but glad they played hard and were in the game in the 4th quarter.

This loss (and the narrow escape against the Ravens) was a microcosm of the season, particularly with Gronkowski at 50% or whatever he was. They played hard down to the last tick of the clock, squared off with a top-shelf defense, got torched by a good passer (30 for 40) and took a narrow defeat similar to their three 2011 losses (Bills, Steelers and Giants,) where they played their butts off, but met their match with a team playing to its potential.

To me, it does compare.

Both times I wanted to just be alone. Shut off.

I'm still numb, like I was in 08.

It just hurts.

Painful loss. But after two days I'm feeling better already.I feel bad because the window is closing on Brady.
You got to figure were not going to come close to winning the SB next year because of the record of teams the year after they lose is horrible.

But 07 I'm still sick over.Lack of sacking Manning on "the catch". The Catch itself. Asantes missed pick. Pierre Woods falling on a fumble and ends up losing it? Single coverage on Burress with Ellis Hobbs on the what 20 yard line?????
19-0 Nobody could ever be better than that.It would have been thee ultimate bragging right ever.Lost to a guber hillbilie that wasn't half the QB he is today.
Everything was lost that day.The Patriot mystique,invincibility.Everything.
We would have been the master dynasty better than the Steelers,49ers,Cowboys,Packers.We lost the chance at forever and will never have it again.

The only reason this one compares is that I felt this would have been the most satisfying Super Bowl we've had, avenging the earlier loss and all.

2007 was a different animal and giants fans would not shut the **** up... 07 just pissed me off- this one is different because I really think the defense wanted it; I think the offense had its bad moments but overall we always had a chance to win so... it sux to lose, but we played hard and thats all you can ask for-

It really isn't as bad. I was confident before this game that we "would win this" but at the same time I prepared for the worst. Like the title of another thread said- some teams just have your number. I mean remember when Tampa Bay kept losing to the Eagles in those NFC playoff games over and over? It's like that, only this is the Super Bowl, unfortunately :(

The 2007 loss is the worst loss in the history of sports period because never has such immortality been on the line. That team would of been confirmed as the greatest of all-time as would Brady and Belichick.

Instead, Brady and Belichick lost the biggest games of their career and will never be able to get it back. Even if we beat the Giants this year, it wouldn't have made up for that. They will forever have 18-1 on us and it makes me ****ing sick.

...to be quite honest with you I am just about over it. By 'just about' I mean when I turn on Sirius i hear they were so close here and there, a play here and there and then I think crap, if we only made those plays.

HOWEVER...we are very well positioned going forward for many years, barring serious injuries to star players. Our foundation is very strong. 2007 I agree is the ruler by which all other losses are measured.

2011 though is already in the books. The hay is in the barn. Done. Over.

The players now need some time off to unwind but rest assured I firmly believe that this will motivate many players there. We can no longer say, "well this game is different cause most of these players were'nt there". Fact of the matter is, they WERE there. They'll remember that taste. I suspect many of these skilled position players will return. And those that get cut will make room for fresh new talent.

The arrow is pointing up, way up.....

I'm already over this one. Don't get me wrong, it definitely sucked. But it's no comparison to 2007.

We lost to the better team, you accept it, and move on. The Patriots will be back next year.

i think this one is worse..................we blew this one, totally in more ways than just the welker non catch.

SB 46 doesn't even come close to the 2007 loss. There was no 19-0 record on the line. Plain and simple. I think with a YOUNG defense (not one like '07 that was very old) they have a good shot at getting back and winning. I've been saying this since 2008, but if they beef up the defense, they'll be in GREAT shape. Hopefully they will have a great draft and come back with a vengence.

No championship loss hurt as bad as the 86 Sox collapse. Game 6 still brings tears to my eyes.

i dont know why, b/c i really like this team....

but right after the loss i was expecting a sadness like that after the 07 SB to happen

it hasn't, this loss is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH easier to take

i dont know why, but after the 07 loss i was distraught, this time i am accepting it much easier

I hope TB and BB don't feel the same way you do.

Would you rather be 3-2 in the Superbowl or 3-1?

I'd rather be 3-2 personally, 5 superbowl appearances must look better when looking back 10 years from now than 4 appearances? I know 4-2 or 5-2 would look even better so there's still a lot of work.

This is exactly how I feel.

That year the Pats were destined to win, this year I felt lucky to even be there.

They won a playoff game finally, won another AFC championship, and Brady played in his 5th SB. It was a great year, despite the disappointing ending.

Wow, I can't believe people think that this loss was as bad as 2007. That was the chance at immorality, the Patriots would have been the greatest team ever!

I was psychologically damaged by that loss (probably for life). I couldn't listen to sports radio or even watch any NFL TV for a good 8 months. This loss was a cake walk.

The Giants were the more complete team and they showed it. Sure, the Patriots had their opportunities, but in the end...you can't score 17 points and EXPECT to win the Superbowl.

I was over this game after a day. Sure, I don't like thinking about it, but 2007 was among the worst emotional experiences of my life.

I'd say this one is worse because it includes 2008. They're connected. This game was payback, time to get it right this time. We learned our lesson, now we're coming. The loss in the 2008 would still be in NFL history, but with the note that the Patriots defeated the Giants 4 years later. I watched the 2nd half thinking, "I can't believe its going to happen again." This ends up being worse because it's the 2nd time Eli drove the field for the winning TD with the Patriots not being able to answer.

It's not even close. It sucks to lose a superbowl obviously but 2007 was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I'm still not over that game and winning last Sunday would have helped a little but not made me get over it. At this point I'm more upset that we have to wait until august to see the Pats play again than I am that we lost the superbowl.
