boy the beating Fred & Steves Steakhouse is taking on their Facebook page is hilarious....and deserved.

...and profitable. Nobody gives a crap about Fred & Steve's unless Benedict DeOssie pulls a stunt like this. He, Johnny Damon and Eric Mangini ought to hold a wet ingrate night.

I just had to check out the end of Tailgate tonight (for the last time) to see if DeOssie would acknowledge the rally.

He did - defiantly an unapologetically. Basically made it sound as if people are upset at the picking of the Giants, not the other stuff. Oh that, and that the Pats lost. The other stuff by the way, was conveniantly left out when the showed a snippet of the video.

It wasn't about the pick idiot! It was about trashing the fanbase, the team, and your fellow analysts! You know the industry that supports you! Struggle with that!

And of course Smerlas adamantly defended Steve.

What a joke...

At 8:25 I switched over quickly from the Celtics' game to watch the end of the last Tailgate Show, because I knew what was coming. The showed a part of the infamous clip, but somehow didn't include DeOssie's sh!tshower about sometimes "struggling" to live in NE. And, of course, Fred the non-Christmas Donkey immediately "supported" his pal by once again running out the tired "he has a right to root for his son and his team", which everyone, including the 3 stooges on the show, knows is not, never has been and never will be the problem here. If they thought that was going to end it all and make nice/nice, they're dead wrong, at least as far as I'm concerned. It was genuinely embarrassing.

We posted our reactions just about simultaneously and I'd say we saw it pretty much the same way. I'd be curious if anyone saw it markedly differently.

About 20 minutes before the end of his radio show, Felger, unsurprisingly, dismissed fans calling for a boycott of DeOssie as being childish, and he argued that it was DeOssie's tonality and not his words that fans are upset about.

The sports pundits are definitely circling the wagons on this and are sticking up for one of their own.

Most of them probably think that fans aren't smart enough to hurt them financially, which is the only thing that matters.

The Fellowship of the Miserable, as Rick Pitino once called them. Imagine Pitino as the Voice of Reason...

Its a variation of the Big Lie, The Big Omission, keep pounding the air waves with the story that its about his being a giants fan. Then leave out the part of the video where he says hes struggling. Eventually thats what they hope people will remember.

What I'll remember forever is a game which produced his orgasmic jubilation juxtaposed alongside my absolute misery.

Well sounds like Deossie starting to understand why the backlash instead of this silly idea its because he rooted for the Giants and they won so fans are ticked.
He openly rooted for the Giants in SB 42 and they won and there was no backlash then so these writers trying to hang their hat on that are out to lunch.
Yeah Steve, poor choice of words. Im not and have never been a fan so no skin off my back.

Precisely..........

I never cared for Mr. DeOssie very much (or Fred Smerlas, for that matter); and besides Dale Arnold, I really don't care for WEEI either. Steve can spew all he wants, and it doesn't matter to me as I never listen to him anyway. As for these other guys on the airwaves who are fans of other teams that are paid to talk Boston sports... Some do it better than others, and there are some who DO seem to have a genuine appreciation for Boston sports.

That being said; it does seem that DeOssie has a rather interesting public relations problem, and hopefully he'll understand that the good fans of New England are his bread & butter. It will be interesting to see how he digs his large self out of this hole.

He thinks he's in the right and in the clear and apparently his employers agree. The only thing we can do is not watch or listen to him or patronize his businesses.

We've got to go after the sponsors. When the sponsors get innundated with people saying they will boycott the products and start putting pressure on the various outlets - that's when we'll see change.

For example, New England Tailgate is sponsored by Roche Brothers. So we contact them, let them kno how we feel, and let them know we will not continue to support their product if they maintain a relationship with DeOssie. Let them know that we think local businesses should support public figures who support the local region.

Dope.

Stevie used to have a problem with substance abuse. I wonder if he fell off the wagon? Its time he tried to make a living NYC.
