Why the playoff losses have hurt deep.....

I know that's really why it stings the most. Really it comes down to one or two plays in all 5 games but the naysayers will point to the signals as a reason we made the plays then and don't now. It's stupid because if you look at the overall team record its about the same and we've been to 2 Superbowls post spygate and 3 before it. If Welker and Samuel just catch the ball we're the greatest dynasty of all time.

The problem is there is a quote I have heard of several times which is true....

No one will remember what you did in the NFL except Winning Super Bowls and the losing teams never get remembered.

If you ask the most knowledgable NFL people of the past 46 years of who won those Super Bowls they would probably reel one off after the other, but then ask them who were the losing teams of those 46 games and it will be much harder to remember.

10 teams if you count the Nets (who used to play in the same town as the Jets and Giants and are moving to Brooklyn).

The Saints have so many bandwagon fans it's unbelievable. Granted we know what that's like with success but that team could barely sell out the stadium pre Katrina unless they had local businesses buy up the remaining tickets and since the Superdome and Saints became a rallying cry for the city after the storm everyone is a freakin uber-fan now and I have people that don't know anything about football talking trash to me because I'm wearing a Patriots hat.

You know, I was thinking, it would be quite interesting to see what the folks here in the N.O. area would think of "homeboy" Eli, should the Giants come down here and eliminate their beloved Saints from the playoffs one year, (*** especially next year, with SB-47 being here ***), or beat them in an important regular season game that hurts the Saints chances in some sort of way. Lately, the last three games, the Saints have massively owned the Giants, way worse than the Giants have "owned" us, by an average of about 20+ points or so. So, I guess they don't view them as a threat to the Saints. And, I have no doubt the Saints would have pounded them again in the NFCCG this year, should that have come to fruition.

And, just imagine if somehow Jerry Jones opens the wallet and lures Peyton Manning there, and he beats the Saints either in RS or post season. I wonder how much they would support the "homeboy" then. They already have a unhealthy hate for Dallas down here as it is. If we think they hate the Pats, imagine that scenario, when Peyton, this time, does NOT air mail the game sealing TD to them, like he did in SB-44.

IMO they hurt because I never feel as though we have been beaten, its more like we beat ourselves. Honestly, I think you have to go back to the 2009 Saints game to see the last time our team has truly been outclassed on the field. This Superbowl, the Jets last year, even the Browns all felt like cases of they didn't win this one, we just happened to lose it. Anyone get what I'm saying?

Yep, I tend to agree with your point there.

Absolutely. Outside of the Manning pass to Manningham which was a beauty we did far more to lose that game than they did to win it. I give them credit for the game and they capitalized but there were so many things we did wrong be it Mayo not turning around on their first TD (any doubt that Bruschi in his prime knocks that down and maybe even picks it off?) Ninkovich lining up offsides, too many men on the field negating a turnover, the safety on our first play, all of it is stuff we did wrong not stuff they did right.

Do they hurt deep?

We don't play these games, the players do. We don't lose them either, so I suspect it hurts the players more, though from the party they were having after the loss, its hard to credit but I suspect that is the case.

Look, what is a Super Bowl? Is it really the pairing of the best of the best, or is it really just the last game of the season for the two teams lucky enough to survive all the injuries and crazy stuff that happens? It is the latter,,not the former. It is just another football game, the last one and when your team loses it, you have nothing left to dwell on until the next season, except that last dismal loss. If that's what people are doing, they are nutz. Get over it, there are more games coming, there are always more games coming. I'll bet that many cannot, without looking it up, remember off the top of their heads, the Super Bowl winners from two or three years ago, much less the losers. Its all hype. Move on.
