Peter King, when asked if BB feels "pressure" to use all his draft picks this year

Re: Peter King, when asked if BB feels "pressure" to use all his draft picks this yea

All this trading down is a good thing....if he did not waste so many second and third round picks such as Brace and Darius Butler and Cunningham. It is like BB gets drunk with all the picks and does things like passing on Torrey Smith to take Shane Vereen...not like the Patriots needed a deep threat; they had Taylor "Vincent" Price

A real deep threat would have opened up the underneath for the TEs and might turned the tide in the SB

oh for ****sake -- you have no idea what shane vereen will turn out to be right now.
there are plenty of guys who didn't pan out, and I'm sure I can even find some drafted by other teams who didn't pan out.

this constant going back through last year's, or whatever year's, draft record to find guys who did something that we passed on is fairly obnoxious.

I'm sure you knew gronk and hernandez would be hits when we picked them and every other team are idiots for passing on them.

fyi --- torrey smith only saw the field because lee evans spent 12 weeks in a boot because he turned his ankle.
fyi --- torrey smith plays on baltimore, not new england.
fyi -- you have no clue how torrey smith would have panned out here.

maybe if we had drafted him he'd be the guy you were crying about in your threads a couple years from now.

how about the week before the draft you post up a thread of all the future studs for us?

I give this post an 8/10 on the FredFromDartmouth scale. You hit on a lot of the points you make every post, but you missed a Felger reference. Better luck next time, you can do it!!

Re: Peter King, when asked if BB feels "pressure" to use all his draft picks this yea

Did anyone expect to open this thread to learn that Belichick would affirm he feels pressure to do ANYTHING?

Even if he did feel "pressure" for some reason, would you expect him to express that in any way to Peter King or the public?

Belichick wouldn't acknowledge pressure to use his draft picks in one way or another any more than he would reveal who he wants to draft.

That wasn't the question:

Cowherd's question was more along the lines of, "Do you think Belichick is being pressured to do it?" rather than "Has Belichick told you . . .?"

Re: Peter King, when asked if BB feels "pressure" to use all his draft picks this yea

Can someone please get BB out of the draft room?

after reading your comments in 4 different threads, I have come to the conclusion that you really dislike this team. So why are you pretending to be a fan? Do you enjoy misery?

Nevermind, i don't need an answer. I honestly don't care

Re: Peter King, when asked if BB feels "pressure" to use all his draft picks this yea

what a stupid question. why would you ask peter king anything concerning bb ? he has zero insight or info on the pats. he might as well ask a tree what time it is.

Re: Peter King, when asked if BB feels "pressure" to use all his draft picks this yea

As Deus said earlier.

lets see what comes out of free agency. Then we see what happens in the draft.

But I think we all want to see more talent in the receiving corp and on D.

We can only hope that the team isn't made up of cast offs next season.

TOP killed the team last Sunday. and largely because we didn't make enough plays to get NY off the field.

Re: Peter King, when asked if BB feels "pressure" to use all his draft picks this yea

Agree. BB doesn't give a **** what us ******s on message boards and all the media idiots around the country have to say. He makes makes the best choice given the information that is available. He's here to put together a good team and win games. He's been a HC in 5 super bowls, he doesn't have to people please anymore.

That, by no stretch of the imagination, means that he is always right, either.

What is he stock-piling picks for? They are just SITTING there collecting dust, while the Patriots defense could use some serious help in the meantime, for example.

NOW is the time. Brady won't be there forever, for one thing. A couple of few players more, and the Patriots might have been able to win the last two Super Bowls...or at least the last one. Who knows? One big play, and that game ends differently.

What, is he waiting until ************ declares himself draft eligible?

Re: Peter King, when asked if BB feels "pressure" to use all his draft picks this yea

This year, anything Belichick has done in the draft in the past goes out the window. This is the first draft under the new CBA with a rookie salary cap.

In the past, Belichick has been less inclined to trade up to get a blue chip draft prospect because of the cap ramifications if he busts out. This year, that cap ramifications drops exponentially (yes, it did last year too, but at the time of the draft no one knew if there would be a rookie cap and what it would look like).

Belichick could go about this year's draft business as usual, but I wouldn't go into it expecting it for sure. There is a whole new set of rules now with the draft for every team with the new CBA.
That would apply more to top Ten picks.

Re: Peter King, when asked if BB feels "pressure" to use all his draft picks this yea

Safety should try to be addressed through FA. I'd like them to take a look at a corner in the draft. We have two first rounders and should be able to move around a bit if we need to. Both Claiborne and Kirkpatrick are over 6' tall and would seem to fit the recent trend of getting taller corners, if we can get to them. But I wouldn't expect Belichick to overcompensate for them, as he may need to in order to get either one. Brandon Boykin is an interesting option but is a bit smaller. He's raw but has elite athletic talent, both as a CB and a return man, and can be coached up. If his Wonderlic scores are good enough, he could be an interesting option outside of the first round.

In all, I'd prefer to see safety and WR addressed through free agency. CB, OLB, and DE should be dealt with through the draft.

EDIT: For those of you who haven't seen a lot of Brandon Boykin, these are the highlights of the last game of his college career: Brandon Boykin vs Michigan State - YouTube

That would apply more to top Ten picks.

It would apply to the entire first round. It is more pronounced with the top 10, but every single pick in the first round got a reduction in what the salary is.

Re: Peter King, when asked if BB feels "pressure" to use all his draft picks this yea

Front 4 needs more of a fixing. You can hide the DB flaws if you have stout front 4(ie Giants)
-Carter will be 34 and not a full time player with injury and age
-Ellis, Warren are 34+, old and done
-Resign Mark Anderson ?
-Wilfork will be 31 this year with no backup
-Brace, supposedly wilfork backup, is a bust
-Rest of D line are JAGS be it Deadrick, Love
I disagree with some of this.

I think both Love (early season) and Deaderick (late season) were very impressive other than the big game.

I can see Anderson sticking around as well.

Re: Peter King, when asked if BB feels "pressure" to use all his draft picks this yea

Defensive front 7 in the first few rounds, lots of em...

Despite "stockpiling picks," as you call it, the Pats have selected TWELVE players in the first two rounds of the last three drafts. The average team is supposed to have SIX.

Re: Peter King, when asked if BB feels "pressure" to use all his draft picks this yea

Your theory is fine. It's the practice of it that's been a failure. In other words, the problem is that the team hasn't been able to absorb those misses....

Your premise assumes BB believes he can keep getting hits on the late first rounders that he has traded away. Clearly they have been far from perfect but I think the trading down method has worked better than most teams draft methods and over the long run has served the team well.

I am in the minority who think if Belicheck can trade either first round pick for a first round pick next year and a second this year he should take it and run. I think the second rounders he as picked over the last few years have been pretty good - Gronk, Chung, Spikes

I don't think anyone like Peter King can answer that question. I don't even think BB knows if he will use or trade his picks. I believe that he is unlike most GMs in that he rarely fixates on a player at a spot in the draft. He always has a number of players that he would take at any spot in the draft, and his first inclination whenever he's on the clock is to trade, not pick. He will trade up a few spots for a certain player occasionally after the first round. Ty Warren in 2003 is the only first-round trade up I can think of, and that was only one spot. After the first 6 or so picks, the draft usually gets pretty unscripted, and BB is pretty good at making deals on the fly. He may pick four players in the original R1 and R2 spots, or he may trade out of each one. No way for anyone to know in advance, even him.

You have to have a QB that can throw the deep pass, otherwise the deep threat is a wasted draft pick. Brady CANNOT throw long. He was 0- 20 in passes 20+ yards in the last two Super Bowls. I don't know if he is hurt or what but the film and stats don't lie, the Giants D was right, he is nothing but a dink and dunk QB now.

Re: Peter King, when asked if BB feels "pressure" to use all his draft picks this yea

You just know he hasn't learned the Brandon Tate lesson. I am certain that the Pats will take Ryan Broyles (WR OU, 5-10, 195) somewhere in the draft. Tough, runs great routes and injured on November 5th, so he is likely to fall. Also, he will be likely to miss the first 6 weeks, if not the entire rookie season. He just has Patriot draftee written ALL over him. He IS Deion Branch revisited.

I know this post is not really related, but I have been thinking it for two months.
