Steve DeOssie [8/24 Edit - FORMERLY of WBZ TV!]

i've always like DeOssie...but this was over the top. I understand his kid plays for the Giants and he did as well. But he really went over the top. he doesn't have to work up here, he can go to NY. He just went to far !

Ok I know I'm new here and my opinion probably isn't worth that much but-

Honestly I don't see what the HUGE deal this was. He was at basically a pep rally in support of his sons team and got a little carried away with comments that seemed obviously made to warm up the crowd. It's one thing if he did this all the time regarding the other teams in the NFL but this really was an issue one time and it's really about this one team (for an obvious reason).

What's funny is I don't even particularly like Steve or Fred (especially together) doing analysis at times. I just think we are getting way too overexcited about this and honestly it can portray us to look like a bunch of whiners after a huge loss.

I heard most (I think) of that hard hitting journalistic piece by Ordway...what a joke. I also heard DeOssie almost pleading with people to still come to his steakhouse at Twin River....
C'Mon, would Ordway and WEEI really hammer DeOssie? Ordway, Smerlas, and DeOssie are all heavily involved (I think Smerlas and possibly DeOssie) are owners at "All Pro Productions", a fundraising company, and that "celebrity" tailgate sham they run down at Foxboro. The "celebrities" are Smerlas, DeOssie, Ordway, and if you're "lucky," Lenny Clarke....
Stuff like this is the reason I left WEEI and went to 98.5....

GO PATS

Count me in as D-O-N-E with the Deossie gang. I had no issue with him rooting for his son and his former team.

But to trash all of us here.....he is now on the same level as Maz, maybe even worse.
Agreed. At least Mazz is honest enough not to try and hide his disdain for us.

I have a hard time with DeOssie in this case as well. In my view he could have even gone to that pep rally if he wanted to. He could have supported the Giants.

He is the guy who put the whole thing in a context of having gotten out of New England after having listened patiently to those that thought NE would win this game or that supported NE. He made the whole thing seem like he escaped NE having duped everybody in the process. Not implying that he picked NE when he was on NE radio. He didn't.

I would not have even minded if he said here that his heart was with NY while he was here. Fine tell us where you stand and live with it.

He is the guy that turned this into "the brilliant and cagy Steve" getting over on the fools from NE. I just think we deserved a little more respect from Steve than that especially since he grew up here and now lives here.

Here is what I think we should do if it can be done. When DeOssie comes on the air, I would just let the phone lines go silent. Don't call to argue with him....ignore him. That is the one thing that would send him away questioning whether he has done himself and his NE based businesses irreparable damage.

I can't support the guy anymore. Have no problem with him supporting the team he wants to support, supporting his sons. Don't have a problem with Steve picking the Giants over the Pats. He could have done all of that without disrespecting the region and its fans. He decided to go a different way and I will never be able to think about him in the same light again.

He has spent years making a good living as a Patriot pundit on many local media outlets
When you are dependent upon the respect of this audience then it would be smart not to be recorded publically ranting against the very same region that pays your salary.
Make no mistake
He spoke what he truly feels
May he enjoy his new career in NYC
I'm sure the Krafts will have something to say about future access to the players and coaches
Stevie - You are dead in this town

It has nothing to do with a huge loss. The Giants deservedly won the game. If you can't separate the outcome of the game from this matter, I'm guessing you have a problem with issue analysis. And, please, don't take that as a persoanl attack because it's not intended as such. At the risk of being redundant, this has nothing to do with who won or lost the game.

I'm not taking it as an attack. I'm just saying that if we had won, we probably wouldn't think about it too much but because we are already pissed about the loss now this has become a HUGE deal with people wanting him fired and his steakhouse boycotted. All my opinion of course.
Again it's ONE team and in 1 situation that yes he got carried away. Steve has worked in the market for years so we should know his history and kind of assume deep down where his allegiance is (with the team his son plays for and the team that got him his SB ring with). There just happened to be someone there with video.

Again though I'm not a big DeOssie fan so it's kind of hard to get too fired up about the criticism towards him.

No, calling patriot fans morons and chumps would still get this reaction even if we had won. Towards the end of the video someone tells him hes being recoded, he says something to the effect of '**** them i don't care'

You are correct that having this come up now feels like salt being rubbed into the wound of a Super Bowl loss. But I have go agree with the consensus here that DeOssie went far beyond propriety with his comments, and he knew damn well that it was being videoed. He said he didn't care. He threw New England and its fans under the bus, plain and simple. He defends himself by saying it wasn't in the context of his job as an analyst, but it definitely wrecks his credibility with the viewer base he serves. He made a serious mistake and thus far has handled the fallout poorly.

If the Pats had won then he would not have revealed his true feelings.
He was rude and crude and forgot where his bread is buttered

"Better to be thought a fool and remain silent than spew your venom and confirm it".

Words to the wise Stevie
Enjoy NYC

Steve DeASSie, pack yer **** and hit I95 South. Your credibility in NE is done. Time to go become a Giants lapdog

I do think we would be preoccupied with our own celebration of we had won the SB but I still don't think Steve would have come out of this all that differently. I don't think anybody begrudges Steve his right to support whichever team he wants to support and pick whichever team he wants to pick.

He made it about respect for the region and its fans. He could have done everything he did without crossing that line but he made the choice to cross it. He could have done everything he did without making it seem like he had to "tolerate" us until he could get the hell out of dodge. He even went on to say that it is "sometimes a struggle" for him. Geez it is so tough for you Steve. Well I suspect you won't have that problem any longer. If we have any sense at atll we will just ignore you.

Ok Steve, thanks for posting here...the phony sentence at the end was a nice touch.

OK note to self: Probably not the best topic to stick my neck out on my first full day as a member here.

Okay Miktik (Jason Wolfe) ... move along now... can him and move on.

Not only does Steve have several business interests here in NE, he also has business interests that are directly tied to the NE Patriots.

I am an EEI guy - but listening to this and then the Big Show ultimately try and defend him afterwards and compare it to Bruschi is pretty sickening

The last 30 seconds of the Big Show tonite was priceless - the staff singing DeOssie is a douche, douche, douche, douche...

Hey, look, under the bus, it's Steve DeOssie!

That's cute and all, but they took this way too lightly all day. They wouldn't even let callers talk to him.

He's a sickening bastard who can go shove it up his @ss sideways and it will fit since he's the biggest ahole in town. Stick a fork in this guy he's done. Ingrate of the highest order. Mock us ... F you
