Offense stunk- Quit making excuses

And you can also argue that the defense could not get the Giants off the field fast enough because the pats average starting position after punts was like the 13 yard line. The Welker drop did not end the game, the defense could have ended the game but not surprisingly the Giants marched up the field.

Do you think Belichick was as deluded as some posters (Pats defense as good as Giants defense, blah, blah, blah)? The offense needed to score this game. This defense wasn't going to bail them out two playoff games in a row. This game was all on the offense. If you told me the defense was going to hold the Giants to 20 points, I would have bet the house that the Patriots would win.

as good as they could

That's the key. The Patriots offense bears the brunt, in much the same way the Colts offense use to get killed for playoff losses in which their D played less than stellar, because everyone understood as the Colts offense went, the Colts went.

Didn't score 20 pts in the last 2 SB's.
This is the only reason we lost! Did you think we would win without scoring 20 pts? I didn't and bet you didn't either.
Defense did their jobs in both games.

Let er rip........

There is a disconnect systematically with this team and their offense. People point to a unwillingness to run the ball. But I wonder if the real issue is a lack of speed on the outside.

Patriots offense held the ball for 23 minutes and scored 17 points.

Giants offense held the ball for 37 minutes and scored 19 points.

That's a difference of 14 minutes! That's almost an ENTIRE quarter of opportunities to score, and it amounted to a field goal. Yet Eli is clutch and Brady and the Pats offense stunk.

DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Look how effective 32 year-old Andre Carter was before he got injured! Draft a damn pass rusher! I'm tired of watching the likes of Eli Manning, Rex Grossman, Vince Young, and Chad Henne move up and down the field!

And get some DB's who can play man coverage so they're not always in that soft zone all the time.

the defense was ok...but failed when most needed (the last drive)

offense was mediocre, and at times inept, and also failed when needed (their last two possessions of the game)..

the better TEAM was the Giants, and they won....

you can say that IF the defense held on the last drive AND that if the offense had scored on the last possession, the game would have been won....excuses could be found on both sides...I say it was a TEAM loss.....

needed upgrades on both sides of the ball.....

The offense really put the defense in a hole by running 1 play on their first drive and then giving the ball back to the Giants with that stupid safety. It allowed the Giants to use up too much time and didn't give the defense a break. It was 9-0 and almost the end of the 1st quarter before we ran our 2nd play from scrimmage.

One more thing .. the time of possession ... Giants had the ball for 37 mins basically due to their running game (they weren't much of a factor but helped in keeping the ball away from our offense).

Patriots offense was hampered by an injured Gronk, lack of a good RB and a deep threat. Also, we failed to pressure Eli through pass rush.

However, I never thought this team with this defense would ever go to the SB this year, let alone coming within one play of winning it all.

So, for those who want to whine, you have to understand the game of football and how tough it is to play during big games like the SB and score more than 20 points. It's incredibly tough.. don't go by regular season stats.. everyone is playing their best to win in the SB.. from players to coaching ..

this is a crock of bleep.
giants held the ball for 37 min basically due to our giving away 2 possessions with the safety and the pick.
if those 2 possessions add up to just 7 min the ToP is virtually equal.

This thread stinks- Quit making excuses

lack of a good RB .

We have a decent stable of RBs. We simply don't use them. Im still wondering why they bothered to activate Ripley.

Message for Bill; WOODHEAD IS NOT A NORTH/SOUTH RUNNING BACK!!!

I feel the offense was inconsistent. The 2 drives in the middle that led to the 17-9 lead were incredible, but the subsequent, unsustained, short drives that failed to salt the game away combined with the heartbreaking drive that ended near midfield when they needed to eat up more time and/or score really put more pressure on a defense that was not stellar at getting teams off the field quickly.

It's tough to accept how big of a loss Gronk was, and the absence of any real WR threat was glaring all season. It takes too long for the guys we have to get downfield, a no no against the Giants pass rush. Once again, I also felt the run game was utilized inconsistently, but what do I know, I'm just a fan with the luxury of hindsight.

I don't think the giants are a better team, I just think they are a better matchup.

No trust in the running game cost us 2 points on our first play. Why risk it? TB was obviously going to have to back up, and with a fresh, pumped up DL after him he was always going to be under pressure, with an unfit Gronkowski there was always a good chance of throwing the ball away.

Who fault is it having 12 men on the field?! cost us a fumble.

Bradys back to back TD drives were unbelievable, other than that the offence was poor, IMO Welkers mainly at fault for the dropped catch, and Gronk should of done better for the underthrow by brady.

At times I was wishing for more pressure on Eli, but thought the defence played ok. With a fit Gronk I feel our offence would of scared them a lot more, and no way would he have let that interception happen.

There's no point in my post, but I'm still off work and uni due to food poisioning and bored as ****, so thought I'd have a mumble :D

I f you're just looking at points then maybe the D did their job. But the bigger picture is the fact that every time our offense got the ball back we had terrible field position

yup...many just look at the points and assume the D played well. Giants had 8 drives and all where 9+ plays. They ate up the clock and scored or left us in horrible field position. They shortened the game and kept our strength, our offense, off the field in long stretches.

Blame on both sides of the ball

The play where Brady is in shotgun, running back right next to him-there is a bit of a delay after the snap and Brady places the ball into Rb's hands and he runs straight up the middle into....a huge mountain of defense.

Does that play EVER work? It seems they run that play 2 or 3 times a game without fail and they get absolutely nothing with it. I like to refer to it as the drive breaker.
