Which is better: losing the Super Bowl, or not making it at all?

Experience of already playing in the superbowl is huge! (except for 08)

We have to make the most of this, just ask a rams fan if they would take a loss in the superbowl next year, I'd bet my life savings they would take it.

We are the most spoiled fans in the HISTORY of sports! This is a HISTORIC run, other than the Yankees no team has had so much success and a fan base that appreciated them. The early Celts team was good but they simply didnt have as great a fan base for alot of reasons. The yahoos who think they'd like like watching Baltimore vs the Giants today are HIIIIII. We can be critical individually but as a team they had a very successful season. No team can EXPECT to win a championship any year never mind EVERY year. Good jobs guys, better luck next year!

So because he has a different point of view than you, that makes him a troll? Great logic there chief.

It's not a different viewpoint so much as it's opinions driven by the emotion of the moment that are completely irrational and illogical.

I don't mind the differing opinions. I do mind the asinine ridiculous bull**** fueled by negative emotions clouding their basic senses. Like someone wanting to cut Brady and start Hoyer or Mallett because of the interception (yes that's a post) or how BB and TB won't ever make it back to a Superbowl or how Welker shouldn't be re-signed because he dropped a tough back-shoulder throw that was pretty high.

I don't mind different opinions. But when they're so clueless and based on complete anger and frustration and no thought whatsoever, I don't really consider that a real opinion so much as childish whining and crying and raging.

Maybe troll isn't the right word for that. Maybe ****** works better.

My daughter is out of it now but for years, she played on a very high level of soccer, both club and college where "giving it your best effor"t was BS. You either won or you went home..no excuses. That was her motto starting at age 12. .. what's the problem now with ah professionals?

So if she lost did you tell her she was a piece of shlt?

I'd rather lose in the SB. It takes a lot to even get there

Everyone loses sometimes. People who learn to lose and move on while those who can’t handle it crash and burn in life. The only way not to lose is to not play.

heh..pretty much sums it up.

ahh I knew you would chime in Andy.
I've told my daughter many times to taste it and move on. She always knew that 2nd place was a losers postion.

Sorry for your guys disappointment. I can relate. So I will only add a comment to this thread.

I would rather NOT make the Super Bowl if I'm just going to lose the game.

I think, some fan bases, like the Lions, or Browns, would feel all neat and happy with a trip to the Big Game, or even Bengals fans live knowing they've been there twice...but for us, for us fans of Championship Teams, losing the Championship game is the most painful way for a season to end. Just as winning the Championship game is the greatest high for us.

When the Steelers lost to the Broncos, I decided that was the best way to go out if we had to go out. A Loss at NE, or at Baltimore would have sucked much worse...and a SB Loss...well ef that nonsense. its the worst feeling ever. EF YOU NEIL! and BEN CHECK DOWN! Yep...those losses suck.

Good luck next year...Hope to actually get to play you guys again in a meaningful game...still would like another shot at you all while Tom still has his game.

Well I imagine you've watched a lot of soccer games then, and you should know that the best team doesn't always win. There are always weird bounces that happen, strange plays that happen, strange bounces along the way.

It happens.

Was the team awful tonight? No.

Did we have our chances? Absolutely.

In the biggest game of the year, we had our chances. We didn't take advantage of them. The other team did.

It's not about ribbons or best efforts or anything else like that. It's simply to say it was a close game that could have went either way several different times. There's no need to blow up the team. There's no need to cut Brady. We missed a play here or there. They missed a play here or there too.
There's no shame in losing a close game to a very good team.

That is all.

Andy? do u have kids?? I think not, I'm just wondering why you'd even post something with that language??

Really...you're going to be a fan of an NFL team, join a messageboard filled with nutjobs, and then complain about bad language...

What.the.****.

FU nobody i mean nobody is going to call my daughter that!!!

only the Colts hang banners for that.

We get the Lamar Hunt trophy.

Of course it's better to be AFC champs than to be less than AFC champs
Wrong. The Bruins hang banners for winning their freaking division.

That's the problem: making the Super Bowl means there's a chance you'll lose it.

But, of course, not making it means there's no chance of winning.

I think the only people who would prefer not to get to the SB are fans who are immature enough not to understand what it means to contend at the highest level, win or lose.

I'm pretty sure that the players and coaches will deal with their feelings over the next few weeks and then take from the experience what they feel they need to take from it to be better next year.

If they decide they can't do that, then they will know it's time to look for another job.

2008 was the only time I felt like it would have been better to not make it -- sort of a weird feeling, like it all went to **** in one game... I might have felt that way about the whole season if we'd lost at any point in the playoffs too... but we didn't. In 1986 I was actually like "well... nobody could even score on this team until they played us, that's something," as much of a drubbing as it was. 95 was another "YES, we made it to the SB again... next step we'll actually win one... maybe... some day."

If you're a long time fan 2001-2004 is an anomaly. And then to get back -- and in incredible form -- in 2007? That's what hurt so bad that year, the crowning jewel in that "best dynasty evah" delusion. Poor man wanna be rich, rich man wanna be king, king ain't satisfied til he rules everything -- thus spake the Boss, and I don't mean Kevin.

Ready for the '12 season. Real life for 7 months first.

For what it's worth, we can always say Tom Brady won the AFC championship game 5 times. The buildup to the Superbowl is pretty fun as well while it lasts.

So, what's your point? That if you lose you also lose your right to self respect?

Sometimes you can be damn good but lose to a team that's a little better or a little more fortunate on a given day. Is it just BS that you might think you were very good and left it all on the field but came up short?

I don't know your daughter, but it sounds like she might have had some bad coaching, especially at the amateur level.

OK - this thread is going nowhere. Let's close this out and try and get some rational discussions going in some other threads.
