NY Daily News: Start Planning the Parade

I hope BB buys 53 copies.

I know this is tongue-in-cheek, but it's the Super Bowl. Suffice it to say that if the team needs bulletin board material for the game, then we're in trouble. Either way, didn't the Giants actually plan the parade before Super Bowl XLII?

It reflects the New York mindset in general. Damn right it's motivational.

Really? A crappy newspaper reflects our mindset? I don't feel this way and don't know a single one of my friends that is a Giants fans that feels this way. Do we believe in our team? Sure. Do we feel there is anything near a guarantee that they'll beat the Pats? Hardly. Media being the media. As I said in another thread, whoever wins the Superbowl will say "Nobody believed in us. Well they believe in us now". That's been the majority of Superbowl champions for year that have ended up saying that because of all the media hype and strong opinions of sports writers.

Do the Patriots really need bulletin board material to get up for the Super Bowl? I hope not. The city if Boston is probably also planning a parade. This is a newspaper just trying to get people to react and sell copies. Nothing else.

As someone who grew up in Connecticut and now lives in NY State, I really don't think you have the pulse of the fanbase.

I'm hearing it from Giants fans all over, and even my Jets fan brother (who never shoves it in my face, even when the Jets beat the Patriots) warned me not to get my hopes up because the Giants are too much for the Patriots.

In people's minds, this is already over.

This question gets pretty tiring because it's brought up every year.

Football is only a game. It's not war. I don't expect people to pretend their lives will be over when they lose. They try as hard as an athlete will try. But in the past we've seen players out drinking and all sorts of shenanigans. Feeling insulted or disrespected gets the blood boiling a little more.

You know, I maybe one of the few, but I feel strongly that the losses to the Jets last year and the Giants in 2008 were largely the result of overconfidence. I mean, Belichick passed up a makeable field goal. The Patriots never took what the Giants and Jets gave them. Brady was certain they'd score more than 17 points.

This points to a mindset problem, one that can be addressed if you feel you're being disrespected.

I live in NYC, listen to NY sports radio talk constantly and have tons of giants fans as friends and family and I am a Giants fan myself. I absolutely have the pulse of the Giants fanbase, much better than a Pats fan that lived in Connecticut and now lives in NY State. The Giants fanbase is confident, but nobody thinks this is over and nobody would write off a TB led team. Confident doesn't mean we are planning a parade. Is there anything wrong with a fanbase being confident in their team who happens to be playing very well? This article is NOT the mindset of the majority of Giants fans. Most feel that the game is close to a 50/50 call with us as Giants fans feeling we have a great chance to come on top in the end. I hardly doubt that is much different than the mindset of Pats fans.

Here's the big "secret". Every city that has a pro team in the final game or games of their sport starts making parade plans. There's a ton of preparation that goes into throwing a parade in a major metropolitan area.

Heck, cities would be fools not to plan a parade before their team won or lost.

Yes, but do you see the herald or the globe arrogantly putting it in the paper.

So then your problem is with a newspaper (which is generous because it is really a tabloid), not with a team or their fanbase.

I grew up watching the Giants, it was Mandatory in our house when i was a kid. In fact i'm named after Charlie Connolly, so no its not the team. I Very rarely pay any attention to these tabloids, but this morning when i read the brady is a fraidy it pushed a button.

My father was always a big giants fan, so i was shocked when about a month ago he wasn't watching the Giants. When i asked him how come he said " i don't watch the Giants anymore, i can't stand Eli Manning"

Cheap journalism sells papers. They are doing their job if we actually care about the nonsense that they write.

Late to this party but here's my thoughts on topics being discussed in this thread.

The fact the newspaper printed that photo with that caption is way over the top. And pretty stupid. Sort of gives the impression of a tabloid newspaper instead of a legitimate news source.

While I think anyone with any common sense realizes just how stupid it was, any kind of bulletin board material "can and will be used against you" on the football field. Not to blow this out of proportion....I think this is a pretty small thing in the grand scheme of things but obviously there is something to it. Otherwise Bill Belichick doesn't gather the troops in a conference room with an overhead projector showing the Eagles parade route the night before the big game back in 2005. Now if Belichick thinks using the "Disrespect" card is a motivating factor, then I'm a believer. And while the NY Daily news (or whatever) is not the same as the City of Philadelphia, it's all relative in my mind.

I see this game as a "pick em" right now. And it amazes me when I see that CBS sports link with all of the so called experts picking the G-Men. Not because the Giants can't or won't win this game. But I would just expect it to be a very mixed bag for folks who supposedly know football when picking this game right now. There is a reason Brady and Belichick have 3 rings together. And not sure if they noticed, but the bad defense that helped the Pats lose all of 3 games this season, has gotten much better in recent weeks.

I don't know, I don't see where BB will use this.

With the Eagles it was different...the "team" was planning a parade and it leaked out.

When the Giants "team" or players on that team start proclaiming a parade then it matters a little.

Who cares what a newspaper thinks? None of them are playing.

Like I said before, the city and the team need to work together to plan a parade in a big city. Permits, barriers, cop details, etc etc. You have to plan in advance of a potential championship to get all these things organized. Every team does it. The Giants are doing it right now in conjunction with NYC and the Pats are doing it right now with the Boston. Non-story...but it seems to get fans and, I guess, players in a tizzy.

no, but the pats are getting disrespected by the media. that HAS to fuel them.

i remember in 2007 the giants players were getting pi$$ed off listening to people ask them whether Tom Brady was the greatest QB of all time.

The paper is reflecting the attitude, mood.
This is becoming a steady dribble from Giant players now too.
The leading tone of the media questions will bring more of it.

Sorry guys i know this is an old thread but i'm going to keep bumping this.
