The Indianapolis Colts have hired Ravens defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano as head coach, the team announced on its website Wednesday.
Pagano interviewed with the Colts on Tuesday after Baltimore was eliminated from the playoffs Sunday in a 23-20 loss to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game.
This season was Pagano's first in charge of the vaunted Ravens' defense. Pagano followed Greg Mattison, who left Baltimore after two seasons as defensive coordinator for the same position at the University of Michigan in January 2011.

Colts D should be much better next year

Well, it certainly couldn't be any worse. It won't be good with the lack of talent on it though. They are likely going to let Robert Mathis walk and they might have two or three good players left on their defense.

BTW, they are probably going to blow up their defense all around since Pagano is a 3-4 guy and the defensive personnel including Freeney are not really suited for that defense.

was this approve Peyton Manning:confused:

Tough break for the Ravens, better promote the Kicking Consultant to Pre-Game Desert Consultant before Pagano scoops him up.

Years pass I was a big time PAY-ME-TON Manning kind of guy...He is important to Bill,Tom and all patriots nation..Going to miss those games against Peyton...You are too

Looks like the Colts are going to be the midwest Ravens :)

I would not doubt a few players from the Steelers and Ravens heading to Indy if they are free agents ...since they will have tons of cap room with the house cleaning....

I think this is a good hire for the Colts. I am surprised though, I thought they'd go with an offense-oriented coach, since it appears they will be drafting Luck.

Not that it makes much sense, but his name spelled backwards reads...

On A Gap

This is great news....but the even better news is that reports are suggesting Dean Pees will be promoted to DC for them. God he is terrible.

Why did he get to take his whole defense with him? The Colts didn't go 2-14 because they lost Peyton. They went 2-14 because they lost Peyton and were already not that great to begin with.

They'll probably be a better coached and prepared defense but unless they are bringing Ray Ray along to make inspirational speeches then they'll need some better players.

Pagano was selected as the ritual sacrificial lamb. He will be charged with stripping down the roster, starting the instruction of Luck, and to lay down the basic core of a Defense, before he is fired after two or three losing seasons.

Not an opportunity as much as a sentence. Poor guy... :(:(

OTOH, he isn't like Wrecks Ryan at the Jets. Recall that The Jester Brain Drain couldn't even get people to interview for that that hopeless job, until Wrecks stepped forward. While Rex is no prize, even he doesn't deserve the sentence meted out to him in "da Joisey Swamps."

They're going to have to rebuild most of that defense now. There aren't many Colts players that are going to translate to the Ravens system.

the track record lately of Ravens DCs moving to HC is... well...

Rex Ryan
Mike Singletary
Marvin Lewis
Jack del Rio

Greetings,
Add Mike Nolan to that list as well. Makes it sound even worse. The Ray Lewis coaching tree really does not have a good reputation.

Yeah, good luck with that one pal. I'm sure it will turn out just great!
Moving to Indy, for a job? Even a promotion and escaping the urban blight that is so much of Baltimore? Even these factors don't make it a wise decision. Did he not know that Irsay owns the team?
Indy? Don't think so.

Wonder if they will adopt their defense right away or transition into it?

Guy has spent nearly his entire career as a secondary coach ... he has had much success in that area. I don't get why a team would hire a HC that did not have a more rounded coaching career ... but it's not my problem ... he will fail is how I see it.

What the Indy's fan think about all this??? Wait, who freakin cares:eat3:
