Gronkowski (ankle) DNP on 'PROJECTED' report

I kind of expect the same thing. Something tells me the Pats are keeping the severity of his injury on the lay low so Giants will practice for Gronk, but I expect Ocho Cinco to be getting drilled these two weeks. He better get these routes down.

I don't know how most will feel about this, but we could be looking at an offense that looks more like the 2007 version going into the Super Bowl with more deep vertical passes, similar to the Giants. Hopefully Ocho will turn his freaking head back when running his routes and adjust if it comes down to that.

Hope this O-line holds too if we have to go deeper. This will cause some issues. Good thing they have two weeks to prepare.

85 is going to be right where he has been all season. On the bench.
We aren't going to change the offense from what has worked all year for the SB. That is ludicrous.

Last thing this team needs is to have the offense looking like 2007.
We need to run, we need to screen, we need to dink and dunk and once the Giants are looking short every time that's when you find Ocho deep.
In other words the Patriots need VARIETY in their offense. They're not beating the Giants going Brady shotgun in an empty backfield 80% of the time. NOT happening!
The key to this game will be the Patriots ability to move the ball and control TOP. Brady looking deep with any regularity is a disaster waiting to happen re: the Giant pass rush.
The Giants have a hot QB and killer WR's.
The Patriots need to revert back to the good old day when they would use their offense as a TOP weapon to limit the other team.
If the Patriots insist on playing The Greatest Show on Turf style offense they will lose just as the did on '07.
If the Patriots get back to their roots and play smart, patient, ball control offense they will win the Super Bowl.
You don't get style points for scoring quickly. In fact it's a very dumb way to play when you have a dominating offense and your defense has lots of holes.
Just curious. Our guy put up 23 on the Ravens without getting any breaks, after a 6TD effort, and their guy put up 20, including 10 off fumbled punts inside the red zone, and they have a hot QB?

Dear Mr. Coughlin,

These are definitely NOT mind games by Bill Belichick. Do yourself a HUGE favor and gameplan to stop Chad Ochocinco, who is sure to have his breakout game Super Bowl Sunday, and completely ignore Gronkowski. He'll never play. Also, Kevin Faulk is going to get a lot of carries. So, gameplan for him too.

Love,
A Patriots Fan.

Just by the way it looked. And no they would not be dead.

While making those changes would certainly fall more into the Giants D's hands, they would still have a huge advantage. The Giants would have NO tape on it, and with 2 full weeks to prepare that's plenty of time to introduce new packages.

So you want to change a great offense into one that admittedly plays into the defenses hands, because they won't expect us to create a stupid gameplan, so we will have them right where we want them?

Replacing Gronkowski with Ochosucko is just a nice way of forfeiting. Ocho will ride the bench, they'll pull Crumpler out of retirement before that moron becomes a main part of the gameplan in a Superbowl. That being said, Gronk plays.

Both Hernandez and Solder not listed (concussion) after being limited last week.

No one new other than Gronkowski. Patriots didn't seem to accumulate any additional injuries other than Gronk.

You're quoting the person who argues we have the second best defense in the NFL, just remember that as you put effort into responding to him.

I don't argue it. There's nothing to argue really. It's been proven numerous times. Of course that means you have to go beyond Disney Football stats to understand it and that just takes a bit too much thinking for some.

And no I'm not saying they should change the offense. I'm saying the will have no choice if Gronk doesn't play. They have to. Nobody else will be able to step in and do his job. It will require that they design different routes and find new match-ups.

This offense is entirely based on match-ups and driven by Gronk's ability to block. They actually changed it significantly when facing the Ravens because of how that defense played them. It's not a something that doesn't happen on a pretty regular basis. You design new schemes based on the opponents and defenses you face.

Oh my god...... Shame on you all for falling for this.

We've watched BB di(k with the actual injury report for the last decade, but all of the sudden we're supposed to accept a "hypothetical" injury report at face value. Too funny.

Gullible much?

Gronk not only plays, he's probably close to 100%.

Our guy played at home on a beautiful January afternoon, was kept upright and clean most of the game by his O-line and did as little as he possibe could with the last 2 4th qtr possessions and almost gave the game away because of it. Our guy threw picks, was saved from more picks by the refs, missed wide open TE's for TD's. You really don't want to talk that quality Bronco defense do you?
Their guy played on the road in a wind swept rainstorm against what many people think is the best defense in football, their guy was sacked at least 5 times, was hit TWENTY times and he never fumbled, never got picked and he made some ridiculous completions. Their guy went to Green Bay and won the prior week. You sure you want to talk Broncos??????
Love Tom Brady and would take him 100 out of 100 times over Eli Manning. What's unfortunate how some fans have such a hard time talking the truth about their own players piss poor performances and about the quality and talent of their opponents.

What the.....Gronk comes back in the game, is seen leaping around coming into the tunnel after the win, is out partying after the win and now his injury is so severe he won't be playing in the biggest game of his life in a little under two weeks?

WTF?

I saw Ed Reed being helped off the field after hurting ankle and then playing very well one week later. You trying to say Gronk isn't tough enough to pull this out? Please!

A HYPOTHETICAL did not practice.
Some people actually seem concerned that he didn't practice when there wasn't even a practice.

He will play. He probably won't practice until next Wednesday, his ankle needs all the rest it can get. He'll probably leave the plane at Indy in a walking boot. And he still will play.

Gronk came back into the game because of adrenaline and probably a pain killer, its almost certainly a fact that his ankle was several times worse on Monday than it was Sunday night. The swelling doesn't start until you take the wraps off.

Not saying he has any chance of not playing, he'll be good to go, I just don't see him making any plays like he did against the Redskins.

Then stand up, and try to get your own, left ankle to bend in that manner. See how far you're able to bend it. Ankles don't bend in that manner.

Sprains typically allow you to still continue temporarily, but once you cool down, it's a completely different story. Sprains can aggravate and some can actually take longer to heal than breaks. I sprained my ankle playing basketball very severly before. It took 3 years for it to finally heal to the point where I could no longer feel any lingering discomfort. I was able to continue playing immediately after it happened even though it hurt, but the following day I couldn't even walk on it.

I was seriously shocked that he was able to come back on the field. BB may be messing with that injury report, but at the same time he could just as easily be telling the truth and not wanting to revealing his cards. That would be stupid.

On that note Here's the Giants DNP 'projected' list as well:

Did not participate: RB Ahmad Bradshaw (foot), WR Hakeem Nicks (shoulder), S Tyler Sash (concussion)
Limited participation: DE Osi Umenyiora (ankle, knee)

They seem to be a lot healthier so the extra week favors the Pats.

Oh and did anyone catch the hit on Tyler Sash in NFC Championship?

This is just a projection for a hypothetical practice TODAY. They are not projecting whether he will be available next Sunday.

Yeah, I know. I think it's obvious he'll be resting his ankle for a bit. But I was really responding to the poster who suggested that we're going to have to go back to the 2007 offense with Chad Ochocince as Moss's replacement because Gronk could very well not play at all.

This isn't about Gronk's heart and ultimately won't be up to him. So would Big Ben with a broken foot. This team isn't that stupid though. If he's injury makes him less effective than the next man in line, the next man in line will have to step up.

I'm sure he'll still be in there for one or two plays, just cause he deserves to be, but no more than that. If Giants get a whiff that we're only using him for blocking or as a diversion, they won't cover him as much and might even help them in figuring out where the play will go.

Actually it is. Don't you dare compare him to the drama queen from Pittsburgh. Who btw is playing in the pro bowl this weekend where that ankle won't bother him nearly as much as it does when he sucks in a meaningful game. And since there are no other TE's on the roster and the next man up would be Ocho (who was a no show subbing for Hernandez when he was out) there is no way Gronk will be less effective than that man even if he's playing on a prosthesis.
