Found out first time all season Ridley has been inactive. Tough for the young guy ..wow...Iam big on good omens and didnt like it when BB deactivated Troy Brown for SB42.

Ridley being out may have more to do with Faulk's blitz pickup abilities than Ridley's fumbles. The Ravens can get after a QB.

I wish we could have given Ridley a few carries. There's always the chance that he breaks one when he has the ball. Sadly there's also the chance that he fumbles it, so I understand why he isn't playing.

Unless there is some mystery injury, the Ridley decision is an over reaction. God love him, but Faulk sucks at this stage of his career.

Also, interesting Vollmer hasn't been IRd. It's obvious he's finished for this season.

Earlier this week, we had a thread about Faulk. He's the team's best blitz defender from the RB position. He'll get more time, and Hernandez will probably see some more snaps from the backfield in order to get the Ravens thinking.

My only question here is whether this means that the team will be using BJGE more or that the team will be eschewing the run more.

Ridley inactive? Wow, that's stunning. Even I didn't expect that at all.

Not so surprised. It's the Patriots way. He'll learn and work hard, if he's going to be the player we all hope he'll be. If he doesn't, well, he won't be the first running back not to make it in New England. (And did others notice how, when he came back to the bench last week, Ivan Fears was talking to Ridley with his arm around his shoulder?)

Who says he starts in the unlikely event he plays again this year? They've done just fine without him.

Where did I say he's starting? We carry two TE's, we use OL as a 3rd TE for extra protection, Solder is the ideal 3rd TE, now I don't know about you, but I'd rather Vollmer at RT over Canon at this point.

This just proved, beyond any doubt, what BB thinks about turnovers, and how they affect the game.

I don't know what the actual % is, but the team that wins the TO battle wins the vast majority of games. In the AFCCG, with this Ravens team, you don't take those chances. Minimizing turnovers is one of the biggest things you can do to ensure you have a chance at the end.

Tough for Ridley - I like his game otherwise, but he's got to protect that ball.

So happy we drafted two running backs this year.

I've been touting this all week!!!

ONE MORE TIME KEV!!!! WE GONNA CELEBRATE! :rocker:

I didn't and wouldn't phrase it that way, but otherwise we're in agreement. :)

Looks like the game plan is serious shotgun/spread, with RBs blocking or operating in space rather than crashing through the line.`

I believe they wont run a lot ...just have woody and faulk and go hurry up a lot... Although I believe if the Ravens play coverage we should run more -a mistake we never adjusted from last yr vs the jets playoff game

Ocho being out leads me to believe the Pats are going no-huddle hurry-up all game today (which they should IMO). Pats still need to run the ball, though, and Woodhead is the best at it from the hurry-up. Ridley didn't really fit into this strategy. Also considering that ball security against the Ravens is critical (make Flacco win it, don't give the game away like in 2009), Ridley's game last week as a huge red flag.

I wanted Solder to start at RT, so Vollmer being out guarantees that. I think this works best with the hurry-up.

Guyton being out is best. I don't think Spikes can keep up with Rice out of the backfield on patterns, but I'm sure the Pats think this too and won't have Spikes one-on-one with him.

Overall, I like the inactive list considering the opponent.

Regards,
Chris

Allowing that I'm a "highschooler" when it comes to football knowledge, I lean toward the latter, more carries by Hernandez, or more cool chicanery...

Excellent analysis.

I caught the "A Football Life" excerpt again, prior to the last Ravens playoff tilt, where BB gives a stern, almost angry lecture about how one mistake can make for a postseason exit. This fits.

I have to admit I'm surprised. I really thought Ridely would be a good match up against the Ravens. However I do believe that this is more a reaction to Faulk's blitz pick up skills than Ridely's 2 fumbles in a 17 game season
