Jason Whitlock writes one of the worst articles I've ever seen.

No rivalry? Are you joking?

It's obviously not on the level of Bird/Magic (what is?) but you're joking yourself if you don't think the Ravens have a perpetual axe to grind when it comes to NE. And let's not forget they handed us the most lopsided playoff defeat in the Belichick era... I'd say there's a rivalry here.

Nah. When I think of NE rivals, I think Steelers, Jets, Colts (well, until this year anyway).

Ravens are a tough opponent but they're not a top tier rival.

Sorry, getting real tired of the disrespect, for no reason at all. If he doesn't like that response, he shouldn't instigate.

Joe Flacco, is that you?

One game doesn't constitute a rivalry. Your argument had no point. The only area where the Patriots are really more "white" than the Ravens is the offensive line, and I think we should all be able to agree that a white/black discrepancy on the offensive line is not an argument for massive racial difference.

Basically this whole thread is proof that writing controversial, inflammatory articles gets people to pay attention and read them and make you money. Meanwhile, there probably some really noteworthy articles about defensive alignments, blocking schemes, passing routes, and special teams that are getting hardly any attention.

I don't blame the guy for writing the article, I blame myself for reading stuff like that and then taking the time to comment. May as well go buy a supermarket tabloid and look at Kirstie Alley's butt in a bathing suit.

Of course the Ravens have an axe to grind with NE because except for the Ravens well-deserved win 2 years ago, the Patriots have owned them. Not NE rhetoric, simply the truth. Now Ravens fans may feel that there's a rivalry here, I can assure you that NE fans don't feel that way. Once again, no intention of disrespecting anyone, but the rivalry just isn't there.

If Jason Whitlock's name is on the byline, you can assume it will be one of the worst articles you have ever read. The guy is awful and has an agenda against anything and anyone Scott Pioli related.

I love this paragraph though:

Oh, man. I really love that “Mad Men” vs. “The Wire” analogy. Gisele’s beau and Bridget Moynahan’s baby’s daddy, Tom Brady, is the skirt-chasing Don Draper. Friend-to-porn star Rob Gronkowski is the irreverent, prostitute-buying Roger Sterling. Wes Welker is the squirrelly Pete Campbell. “The Wire” characters are even easier to identify. Ray “Sugar” Lewis is Avon Barksdale. Ed “Safety” Reed is Stringer Bell. And Terrell “T-Sizzle” Suggs is Wee-Bey.

So he can mention the bad press related issues of Brady and Gronkowski, but not even a mere reference to CONVICED FELON Ray Lewis. He even needs to describe the character flaws of the Mad Men characters the Pats' players are related to and not the Wire characters the Raven playes are related to.

I hate to tell Whitlock, but I think that more readers know who Don Draper is than Stringer Bell. I am a huge The Wire fan, but that was more of a cult hit while Mad Men is more of a legitimate hit.

Also, this is ridiculous too:

Look, we can tip-toe around it, ignore the big beautiful elephant in the room, or we can embrace the fact that Sunday’s AFC Championship contest is soaked in the white-black racial component that has driven American sports passion at least since Jack Johnson whipped James J. Jeffries.

Funny, most of the talk this week has been about Joe Flacco. Last time I checked, his isn't black. Last time I checked, a majority of the players on both teams are black. I don't know of anyone who associates this team as a "white" team and the Ravens as a "black" team.

Ravens-Patriots is ultimate culture clash - NFL News | FOX Sports on MSN

In this article, Whitlock paints the Pats as the bad guys in this, cites officiating being in the Pats favor as the reason for Baltimore's regular season losses, drudges up Spygate, and plays the race card. Happy hunting!

I decided to read the article. Two things:

(1) It is really, really stupid to make this a black/white thing. I haven't checked, but I'm sure the Patriots have a very normal racial roster makeup. Heck, they even have a guy named "Chung"!!

(2) If Whitlock is right, and this really *is* white players vs black players (I mean, seriously, how does Deion Branch or Jerod Mayo or Vince Wilfork feel about that?) then if the Patriots win, will Whitlock write his next article about how white football players are, apparently, better than black football players?

The whole thing is stupid. :bricks:

If the Pats win, he'll be a cheerleader again, jumping up and down for the Pats. He always switches back and forth about the Pats, but he has to be extreme. He can never just write a fair, balanced article or opinion.

not saying i appreciate the divisive talk in this article but to an extent he has a point. most of NE's stars are white, Baltimore's are black. Boston is perceived among many members of black America to be a bit of a racist city when it comes to sports, Baltimore is 2/3 black. (Sox were the last team in baseball to allow black players, etc). I do see shades of Magic/Bird here....which incidentally wasn't a bad dynamic, sports has in many ways been an arena where America confronts issues of race, often in my opinion to good effect. If we're looking at strength vs. strength in this game, NE's O vs Balt's D, there is a subtext and culture clash whether you want to admit it or not. I've had this thought this week even before reading this article.

Fact is a lot of the people on this board have been calling Baltimore's players "thugs" all week....I see where that comes in with Ray Lewis, but when it comes to Suggs its a pretty racially charged term that I've found a little sketchy.

I don't like Whitlock and him dredging up spygate is pretty irritating, but I don't find this article to be as outrageous as some of you.

I have been to Baltimore many times and it is one of the most racist places in America. When you go from Baltimore City to Baltimore County it is like night and day.

I won't give that j a c k a s s a read, but I have read him in the past. He plays the race card in everything he writes. It's disgusting, and, because he does it ad nauseum, ridiculous. If karma is a deciding factor, now that Pats are sure to win.

Welker and Gronkowski are white, Hernandez is Hispanic,Branch and Ocho are African American...BJGE and Ridley and Faulk are African American...predominantly white offense???Uh, newsflash nitwit,Flacco is WHITE...why no mention of the Ravens offense? Obviously because it doesn't suit your racist argument.

9 of 11 Raven defenders are African American...uh, OK...10 0f 11 Patriots defenders are African American...oh wait, YOU think they're white, right...because your hate for the northeast and your racial bias that flows like venom towards the Patriots won't allow your eyes to see what is right there in front of you.

Brady versus Lewis...OK, idiotic from the jump but I'll play along....Brees versus Lewis...ever write a column about THAT black/white dichotomy??? Rogers versus Lewis? Rothlisberger versus Lewis? Manning versus Lewis?

Heh...of course not...only the racist northeasterners and their racist Patriots team play into your intergalactically moronic barrage of bile.

You need to look up "predominantly" in the dictionary and get a neurosurgeon to laser burn its meaning into your forebrain..Hernandez,Branch, Ocho,BJGE, Ridley and Faulk make the Pats offense PREDOMINANTLY African American. Sorry we have a white TE that offends your sensibilities so deply that you'd go off on this racist screed...after all, the Ravens would never employ white tight ends would they...nah...never...because it's a black/white issue.

Before your next "column" it would behoove you to find the nearest Clues-R-Us warehouse and get yourself a couple of palettes...the African American sales manager will even have the white go'fer load it in the back of your Escalade for free.

This isn't the first time Whitlock has written garbage like this...and it won't be the last...I sent him THAT e-mail in response...I expect him to not respond...it doesn't fit his hate agenda

Get your facts straight- the Celtics were the first franchise to ever draft a black player, first to start an all black lineup, first to hire a black coach, Bill Russell.

Except for the Red Sox (only because of the institutional racism of Tom Yawkey), Boston sports was never predominately racist.

Thanks, Mr. Whitlock. You are the finest peddler of racism in sports journalism since Stephen A. Smith. Congrats!

Amongst a sea of gems, this one kind of stands out;

The Ravens like and respect their AFC North rivals the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Also,

I love Tom Brady. Other than John Elway, he’s the quarterback I respect the most. But I’ll be rooting for Avon, Stringer and Wee-Bey. “The Wire” is my religion.

hahahahahahahah

He seriously inferred that being black is his religion.

And here I thought the racist garbage was confined to Fox's News Department. I see that the sports side has been infected as well.

But the author of the article is right: there is a racist involved in this matchup. It is him.
