Media Should Back Off Of Tebow

I love Tebow. I love him for what he did for the Gators and what he's doing for the NFL. That said, he's just not a good quarterback. He's never been a good quarterback and he might never be. Say what you will about him. He's an athlete, a gamer, an inspiration to many, a leader, and a winner. But a good quarterback he is not. He was exposed in the last game he played us (a lousy, but well coached defense) and he was exposed today. Again, I love the guy. He brought my favorite college team two championships (well, helped in one. Chris Leak did the majority of the work but Tebow did his job as a freshman), but he just isn't a good quarterback. Unless he learns accuracy somehow, he never will be.

Good post. It's absolutely fair to question how effective Tebow the QB can be. I, in general, am skeptical about QBs who predominantly are runners. Teams/players are just too good to allow QBs to not first and foremost be effective passers. Tebow is not consistently an effective passer. Maybe he will be but he isn't now. It will be interesting to see what he can do with an off season of practice and a majority of snaps at training camp. I'd definitely say after this off season and training camp, if he hasn't shown marked improvement, his NFL career as a QB will be done.
With that said, Tebow the individual appears to he a quality person. I think that has to be said because their seems to be ire directed at him for what I consider unjust reasons.

The ProLife aspect of his religious side marks him down a couple points in my book. Please, Tim, just because your family was in a position to take care of you when you were born does not even remotely give you the right to help support a cause which is creating massive problems in parts of the world where they CAN'T take care of the numerous children they have thanks to a complete and utter lack of contraceptives.

It's not just the media...

Yea, he's a nice fellow, but whatever happened to just helping people anonymously? If anything, the fact that he broadcasts it so much makes me question his motives and authenticity.

Eh, I dunno. I'm an atheist, fwiw, but I still don't think that there's an insincere bone in Tebow's body. He seems awfully genuine to me, and by all accounts he's a great guy.

The best part is that I bet there were some indignant Denver fans, at least one or two, who blew $20 on bologna and wonder bread just to prove a point.

I think Tebow will be a very good NFL QB, but agree with the premise of this thread.

After the game Tebow was circled with camera's, while one followed #12.. and to his credit was looking for Brady, but he was being interviewed by CBS...

The minimization of Brady this past week fueled a fire in his belly to excel.

The mediots want this kid to be something he is not capable of being at this time in his career.

Agreed. I'm sure he's a great guy off the field, but at the end of the day, your job is to play quarterback, you are paid to win games.

Tom Brady does great things off the field too, but on the field, I want him winning games.

No question. But as Tebow said, "I choose" to look at things positively. He knows he's really bummed about losing. He is as competitive a guy as anyone. But everyone has a choice to make about how he is going to respond to a loss. He's choosing to look at what positive thing happened yesterday, which certainly wasn't on the football field.

Side note: I personally know the kid who Tebow was referring to. Great family, heartbreaking story of the kid....he was a really good football player and athlete, and got hurt at his HS football team's practice. So all that I had heard about Tebow really came home on a more personal level for me yesterday.

This isn't to say there aren't a ton of other great guys in the NFL (because there are), but Tebow is certainly one of them. Truly good person.

I'd still rather have Brady as my QB though. :D

Not gonna lie, seeing Tebow's dejected face at the end of the game blew my high. The 1st time in my life that a team I was rooting for was crushing an opponent and all I felt was pity for an opposing player. I respect him as a person, but not a fan of his game at this level. He is the football Tyler Hansborough. Extremely successful in college but doesn't have the game to be a starter in the pros. I wanted that to get exposed so all this mania would subside. But as the game wore on, I just wished it could end.

I felt terrible for him and hopefully it won't shake him and he continues to be the person he is. For the most part he has always been successful in his athletic career. For the 1st time he may have to experience the other side. I hope he handles it well.

I didn't feel terrible for him at all. As a professional your core duty is to perform in your profession. The rest is all great value add stuff to your personal standing (or appearance of personal standing) in whatever society that is.

I felt complete and utter elation at the fact that the Patriots finally won another playoff game. The Broncos were but a stepping stone.

Just listened to his press conference. He called it a good day because he got to help a kid.
Its real hard not to like the guy.
It's too bad the media is so obsessed that their obsession makes people dislike him.

It's the great mediot game. You build people up so you can tear them down.
Tim Tebow will be fine. Give him an off-season training program, give him off-season time with his coaching staff (Denver needs a quality OC - BAD) and an actual training camp, none of which he had coming into this season. You'll see a much better QB next year.

Jebus. Who cares about Tebow ? He's another teams QB. I personally couldn't give a figg if he ever develops into a NFL level QB. That's for Denver and their fans to worry about. Let's move on and talk about New England Patriots.

Sorry PaulThe Pat :)rolleyes:) but some of us are capable of talking about other NFL teams and players. There are many other threads you can visit which has Patriots only topics. Why are you here if it offends you so?

Not really fair to say he wasn't a good QB in college. Kid did complete 66% of his passes at UF with a TD/INT ratio of 5.5:1 and a QB Rating of 170-something.

Yup, he's got a lot to learn at this level. But as BB himself pointed out, virtually every QB changes his mechanics. Tiger Woods has rebuilt his swing twice. Why do Major League Baseball Hitting Coaches exist other than to change swing mechanics?

He DID go 8-5 with a team that looked destined for a Top 5 pick at one point this year. I'd like to see how he fares with another whole off-season of preparation with an NFL QB coach, a chance to tailor the offense around him a little more, and some better offensive talent. (...let's face it, he ain't exactly throwing to Welker, Moss and Gronk out there.)

Talking (or should I say obsessing) about another teams QB, his mechanics, his personality etc has NOTHING to do with the NE Patriots. At the very least this topic should be prefixed OT (i.e. Off Topic) or moved to another sub forum for non patriots related discussions. Talk Tebow till the cows come home if you want. Just do it somewhere else i.e. here:

Like he did in the 2010 offseason.

I'm not buying that. He's now 2 plus years in the league. if his mechanics aren't getting better now he ain't getting better.

I also think it's unfair to expect Tebow to play consistently as a passer as if he was in a passing style offense like Tom no matter who they are playing.

Let's be honest, Brady didn't play as good as Tebow did against the Steelers in his first playoff game. And Brady has played uglier than Tebow putting up an NFL passer rating of 35.9 against Baltimore. Joe Flacco put up a 10.0 in the same game and won! Those ratings aren't simply about the quarterback, they have a lot to do with your cast as well and if anyone here doesn't think Tim couldn't put up better numbers with the same talent around him is smoking something.

No way does Denver's offense or receivers compare to the rest of the league. He did the best he could with one of the most average group of receivers you can find currently in the NFL and a patched together offense that was neither a spread nor even average for a traditional style offense. He got them to the divisional round and set playoffs passing records against the Steelers in his first game. Enough said.

People put every pass Tebow doesn't complete on Tebow. It doesn't quite work that way. Tebow still proved to be the #1 most efficient passer by air this year averaging 12.3 air yards per pass. That's honestly what you should use primarily to rank quarterbacks as passers. Air yards. Not yards after catch. His receivers are ranked 32nd worse in dropped passes in the NFL. Give Tebow Gronkowski and Hernandez, Wes Welker and see if he can't be at 60% consistently.

I mean a little common sense should prevail. If you really believe Tebow's as bad as people think, then prepare for another "miracle" transformation in 2012. In one off season Tebow's going to go from a 40% passer to a 60% passer. Watch. Biggest turnaround ever.

Brees is a perfect example of how good you can become with the right pieces around you. His best completion % in San Diego was a 65.5. His worst 55.6. In New Orleans he put up a 64.3 and his best this year was 71.2. But he threw more difficult passes in San Diego than he does in New Orleans.

Still doesn't mean much when your interception % isn't elite. Your team will lose. And that's one area where Tebow excels. Brees got the yards and completion % and won as many playoff games as Tebow with a much more talented team. Guys with the interception % like Alex Smith, Brady, Flacco and Rodgers get the win. And it should be noted guys like Flacco are as inconsistent in completion % as Tebow, because they are in different style offenses. Flacco goes from 78.9% down to as low as 43% every other game.

Joe Flacco's completion % this year:

lol. Look at those highs and lows. More importantly Flacco won with a 32.3, and 45.8 and won a playoff game with a 10.0. Yet lost this year completing 67.6 and 55% of his passes. So who cares? ? Clearly that alone has little to do with winning a football game.

He has one of the best win percentages of all time just like Brady. 2nd in the league among active quarterbacks. That's what matters. He's not losing his starting job. He's an NFL quarterback. Why can't Tebow be one?

Now try interception %. See how many a QB's still win when they have a poor TD to int %.

One quarterback threw 6 touchdowns tonight.

The media ignored him.

That's what p**ed me off. I turned the t.v. this am and there's idiot BSPN doing a quick nod to the Patriots and then a 10 minute Tebow story. Enough!!

Once more, I swear off BSPN.

I find Tim Tebow ultimately a nice person who at least tries to do good things off the field. Some of his personal beliefs I don't agree with at all. And on the field he is the enemy no matter how many little old ladies he helps cross the street. I absolutely loved the beatdown yesterday. And so did lots of my non-football fan friends, judging by my Facebook feed. I have some cynical friends, I guess.
