The mocking of Tim Tebow

He's an outspoken Christian, so what?

According to the conventional metrics, he's not a very good QB, but he's a winner.

As for ad hominem criticism, I don't really notice a lot of that going on. Then again, I don't have a dog in the race (neither Christian nor rabidly anti-Christian), so I probably wouldn't notice or partake in it.

I like Tebow a lot as a QB - but his pious acts are sometimes too much. It wouldn't be a big deal if he was a "B" player, but because he's a star the media shows him every single time he drops to a knee... which is roughly 47 times a game...

I just want to say, as a member of the tribe and all, that if the Pats crush Tebow (like really crush Tebow) Sunday, THERE IS NOT A SECRET INTERNATIONAL CONSPIRACY behind it.

Also Andre Carter is not planning to make latkes with the blood of a virgin quarterback.

Just want to get ahead of the pogrom thing...

I mocked Tim Tebow once. In the 5th round to be specific. Then I mocked Josh McDaniels for taking him in the first.

I like my football minus religion, politics, etc.

Wrong Andre... ;)

Unless Carter is Jewish...

...is he?

But it would be kind of funny if someone sacked him in the fourth quarter and pulled out the Edward G. Robinson line from the Ten Commandments.

No no, I was just saying b/c he sacked the chosen one. Nice Tippett pull btw.

Nahhh. I am however intimidated by how fluently Reggie White read Hebrew back in the day, just as a non-Pats related aside.

Yeah what was that? I know he plays Korah and delivers the line w/your basic American gangster accent from the 40s... "Where's your God now, Moses?" Did I get it?

I confess I did not do my passover duty and watch the NRA guy lead my people from bondage to redemption this year :(

("You can have these tablets of the law when you pry them from my cold dead hands"... "Get your stinking paws off me, you damn dirty Pharoah..." whatev...)

Heh, thanks.

He did? Pretty impressive, actually, and yes, I can see how that would intimidate.

Yep, I love that line, and saying that on occasion. If Andre Carter sacked him and said that (in that voice), I'd go out and buy a Carter jersey on Monday.

I confess I did not do my passover duty and watch the NRA guy lead my people from bondage to redemption this year :(

Perhaps the better question was, "Where are your guns now?"

I really don't get why Non-Christians get so unglued when Tebow praises Jesus. If a Jewish player gave thanks ina religious way or if a Muslim praised Allah after a score I wouldn't care less. Id say, well, good for him and move on.

Yeah he actually had a period after retirement when he got all concerned with readng the "old testament" in the original, part of his whole minister schtick. So he thought "what the heck," and actually got quite good at it. I saw a segment on the NFL channel or on 60 minutes or something... he was cruising right along at a quite fluent clip, reading from the torah with no apparent difficulty...

Now had he done it in his playing days, he could have done that whole Pulp Fiction speech that Samuel L. Jackson did before he shot you every time he sacked you...

Woulda really struck fear into the hearts of Sage Rosenfels and Jay Fiedler, not sure who else.

That's my question. Tilting at windmills...

If someone were just sitting there kind of muttering in Hebrew before every snap, I would imagine a lot of people would start to get the fear a bit. After all, Hebrew and the quintessentially "demonic" language of "Syrian Aramaic" sound somewhat similar.

Let me know too.

Okay, back on topic:

1) There's already a position for a guy that runs the ball. It's called runningback.

2) (Something of a corollary) Running quarterbacks break.

3) Interesting about how this board is full of people who hate "hollywood wife swappers," like Sean Penn -- who spend months trying to help rebuild an earthquake-ravaged region. This clown's whole point seems to be "I wasn't aborted, and now I play football. Therefore abortion is wrong, God is great (in Arabic, Allahu Akhbar,) and let me take every opportunity to make that the point of the game.

Maybe a gedanken experiment would be helpful here.

How would you feel if a Muslim player shouted "Allahu Akhbar!" at the top of his lungs every time he scored a touchdown? How about if he did ads for one or another Muslim charity or political advocacy group?

Hey, it's Tebow's right to turn his football career into a political issue. I just hate that we only extend that "right" to the political right, or to certain favored religious groups.

Yesterday on the incessant, "All Tebow, All Day" sports talk radio.. someone called in and said something to the effect, "Tom Brady is a better quarterback, but Tim Tebow is a better person"... cannot wrap my brain around that.

WTF is that about??

If you follow Patriots Tweeters, notice BJGE, Andre Carter and Jerrod Mayo all have religious themes to their messages.. does that make them better Patriots players than others???

Then there is Wes...

Who's laughing now?

How about this?

'Mile High Halo' Forms Over Tim Tebow And Mile High Stadium During Broncos Steelers Game (PHOTOS)
Let's all try to be calm and rational about this. In addition to Tim Tebow throwing 316 yards in the Broncos' upset over the Steelers (Tebow painted Bible verse John 3:16 under his eyes in college) and fans replacing "Tebow" with "Jesus" on their jerseys, apparently a halo-like smoke ring formed over Mile High yesterday after the Broncos scored their first field goal.

Mark Neuman-Lee, an attendee of the Steelers/Broncos game and photographer of the "Mile High Halo," tells HuffPost he'd never seen the ring prior to yesterday's NFL upset. Two season pass ticket-holders also told HuffPost the halo seems to be an anomaly.
At the time of publication, a request for comment from the Broncos was not immediately returned.

I'm sure that everyone has already heard the 316/3:16 thing, but here a couple of others (from CHFF):

Final score: 29-23

"Pride ends in humiliation, while humility brings honor." – Proverbs 29:23

Thomas scored 11 seconds into the 5th quarter.

"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me." -Matthew 5:11

Tebow tweets a verse every gameday (not the actual text, just the Chapter and verse(s). On Sunday he tweeted "Hebrews 12:1-2".

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” - Hebrews 12:1-2

Wow, call me converted......

funny thing is tebow's antics are actually anti-jesus

"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen." Matthew 6:5-6
