OT-Thoughts on Fisher potentially in Miami?

Fischer is a decent HC, something Miami has not had in years. That said he's vastly over rated by the media. I hate the guy for two reasons (1) he coaches dirty, q.v. Harrison IR play and (2) he's a Patriots and BB hater, q.v. Spygate. Combine this with his NFL Compensation Committee role as a Polian rump swab and you gat a pornstash clown whom I cannot stand.

Still, given that he is competent, I predict that Miami finishes ahead of the imploding NY Jets in 2012.

We can rack up some wildcard berths, maybe a post-season win or two along the way - and then when Brady and Belichick leave, the division is OURS! Muahahaha!

2017 here we come!

Do you think he will wear a Brady jersey? He has a thing for wearing the jersey for star QBs of division rivals.

This pretty much nails it, I think, "decent" is about all the praise he deserves. Here are what I think are the key stats for him:

- He was the head coach for 16 years with the Oilers/Titans and they made the playoffs only 6 times.

- His teams won only 5 playoff games. It would be only 2 if not for the "Music City Miracle"; I still question whether that was a lateral, and will always believe that if "Son of Bum" had played Flutie in that game, the Bills would have won that game.

Not so good considering the talent he had to work with both on his staff and on his roster. Gotta be fair here, and give him plenty of the credit for the talent selection and even more so, obviously, for being able to develop that talent. His teams ran that "46" Buddy Ryan defense and it was fairly effective and for many years pretty much unique in the league. He put together an excellent coaching staff and even though I'm not a fan, I always felt his teams played hard (to the limited extent I paid attention to them).

The big question I have about Fisher going to Miami is whether he will be able to work well with "King Carl" Peterson, who is clearly the #1 man in their football operation now. Peterson has a reputation for, shall we say, his "enthusiastic input" with his coaches and GMs. There's also GM Jeff Ireland in the mix - for now anyway. My perception is that Fisher is that he got involved in too many power struggles in his last couple or three seasons in Tennessee, so I wonder why he'd go for a situation that looks like more of the same. Not to put too much stock in my own perceptions, but if Fisher winds up in Miami there will be a big part of me that will figure he's just there for the money, which wouldn't bode all that well for the Fins.

Steve McNair was a bad quarterback?

No, but he was only the starter for 8 or 9 of those 17 years, and he was a good quarterback, not a great one that could get you to 12 wins by himself like Peyton and Brady.

Good for Miami. That is a franchise with a terrific history that deserves better. The Miami - Patriots rivalry once meant a lot and it would be nice for the Fins to retake the challenger's role from the Jets. We could all dust off our Squish the Fish gear. I hope he brings an A game to AFC East. It's been a long time since a proven head coach was in the division to challenge Belichick. Sorry to diss Chan Galey, but he's not of the caliber of Fisher and Rex Ryan is in over his head as a head coach.

Rex Ryan did challenge Belichick, he even won some big games against BB.

It all starts with Bud Adams. He is either a meddlsome owner or an absentee on.

The hardly ever spent money on FAs.

Jeff Fisher is a good coach. I question his tactics as a coach (a little dirty) but whatever...

Floyd Reese was a good GM

From 1999-2003 they were outstanding.

The rebuilt from 2004-2006 as McNair and George and key defensive players got old/left

The had outstanding drafts and went 13-3 in 2008 thanks to the Reese drafts.

My point: Adams is a sub-standard owner.

I'd rather not face a coach who teaches his team to be dirty, the way Fisher does, twice a year.

He had a great record against the Manning led Colts once they entered his division in 2002...

5-13...:bricks: Aside from that fluke Kerry Collins swan song season, he was lucky if Polian decided to let him back into the playoffs. Belichick won't.

He's really beginning to annoy a lot of folks with his drama queen decision making. Fact is if Cowher or Gruden had decided to re-enter the fray, he'd be the cheap consolation prize this off season. It's pretty obvious he only wanted the Rams because of the perception they presented the best shot at a turnaround. But the possibility of them relocating has him skittish. The Dolphins were only in it to drive his market, and reportedly that idiot Ross has the ante up to $8M. And still he waffles. Hiring a guy who isn't sold on you is what idiots do. Kronke and Ross should both drop him like a hot potatoe and then watch him run to Indy for consolation. Although with a young GM already in place who has no alegiance to him or experience beyond college scouting and no cap background should make for yet another idiotic move. He's one of the few branches off the Buddy Ryan Tree than weren't blood related... They make interesting defensive coordinators, HC's like Buddy...not so much. As his career regular and post season record underscores.

Adams is a meddlesome owner. But Floyd could tell you tales about how Jeff is a backstabbing HC whom he kept propped up for a long time at his own eventual expense. Only he won't...but his wife has no filter.

Agree on the backstabbing. Threw Reese under the bus many a time...
