The Future.... what happens if the Jets do get Peyton Manning?

Re: The Future....

I want manning to be back on the field (jets or indy i dont care eitherway) but the chances of it happening is app 1%. you cant go back to the field after a NECK injury, he will go to the hospital on the first sack he gets. you dont mess with your neck.

Re: The Future....

There are a lot of other teams that could use Manning's services if they decide to cut him. The first logical place for me is San Francisco. Can you imagine how scary they could be with Manning on that team? They have solid coaching, solid run game, crabtree and davis and are not in salary cap hell. Plus, it's a much nicer city to live in.

Win win for all parties. Colts send him to NFC. 49ers becomes serious contenders (both offense and defense). Manning wins an easy division and lives in a great city.

Re: The Future....

Why would Brees go to the JEST? Brees is practically the king of New Orleans at this point.

And, as noted above, the JEST are already in cap trouble, and signing Brees (especially under the FT) would mean cutting players AND no first-rounder to help him in 2012 or 2013.

Also, if I were a QB whose value is predicated mostly on the stats I put up, I'd be very wary of leaving a dome to play half my games in the New York wind.

Re: The Future....

I get the feeling Manning would have the same success as Farve did. The guy would have to learn a new system while coming off a serious injury. You can't expect him to play at the same level he did in the past for any length of time.

Re: The Future....

an indy friend of mine who knows the doctors swears Manning is never going to play again.........lets see if this is true.

lets hope not!

Re: The Future....

It would hurt to live if this happened.

Peyton has been my favorite non-patriot since he was in Tennessee, and although I wouldn't think less of him, I would be pretty appalled. And yes, like you've all mentioned, they would be superbowl contenders year in and out.

Do I think this is going to happen? No. Irsay would never let Peyton leave if he was healthy. They're family.

Again, you're ignoring a basic problem: unless the NFL changes its rules to prohibit contacting a QB at all, any team signing Manning would be taking a huge risk that he'd be out of commission the first time he took a hard hit. How do you design a contract that Manning would find palatable that also didn't risk financial disaster for no gain at all?

I made my opinion with the assumption that he's healthy. :)

I wonder what Alex Smith thinks of your thoughts. Smith's the big question here. What if Smith has a great postseason or lead the 49ers to the big game? If that happens,no Peyton. I think it's no either way. But imagine if Peyton can be anywhere near his old self & went to the 49ers. They would be instant SB contenders!

If the Colts cut Manning, any team that wants to talk to him can do so. If the Colts are interested in trading Manning, they can allow potential suitors to talk to him. And even if a trade is agreed upon, like all trades it would be subject to Manning passing a physical. Yes, it would be a risk. But there's probably 25 teams who would be better off with Manning than whomever they already have.

You do what the Colts did: You backload it and/or give all sorts of roster bonuses.

Re: The Future....

If i were the jets i would go after manning and hard..why not? Still a 11+ win QB in this league

If this happens, there'll be Chicken Little dinners served here every day of the preseason and season and the Bawkmeter will register off the dial...

Don't matter we have Brady.

The Jets would instantly become a threat to win the AFCE and be a serious playoff team.

Jets may go after him but why ruin your reputation as a QB and such a clean resume by being a Jets QB? Follow in Bret's footsteps? Manning will be a great addition and uplift any team he goes to so why go to the Jets?

Not to mention, Manning and Ryan? Playing in the same city as his brother? I just don't see it.

It took 9 years for Pay-Me-tons to get the rules changed, and to get HIS specific offense tweaked and tuned until the Colts FINALLY broke through...he's thirty six...the Rat offense is NOT the Pay-Me-Tons offense...he will need HIS type of receivers, his type of TE and his type of RB...the Rats are going to sign HIM to mega millions, cut all the players who don't fit and ADD all the skill players Pay-Me-Tons needs????

uh huh...hey, what are you guys smoking????

Peyton manning would'nt fare well in New York behind that line. The Jest need an offensive line coach, a paradigm change on offense and a qb who can stand and deliver.
