Plus his 50 yards of rushing.

Despite our defense being much maligned, I would say that most of the yards we've given up are on long, sustained drives. Which make me want to rip the hair out of my head, but I think we've been pretty decent in guarding against big plays. We've got to keep this game against the Broncos in front of us. It seems clear to me that the Broncos felt very comfortable, whenever Polamalu was up near the line of scrimmage and with Clark out of the game, that they could take shots deep.

I'm not the football expert that others on this board are, but I don't think our safeties play near the line of scrimmage nearly as much as Polamalu does. Perhaps that's a function of the fact that we need the help in the backfield, or maybe it's a philosophical thing. Either way, I think we should be better equipped to guard against the big play (not to mention the fact that we will clearly be preparing for it as it's what did the Steelers in).

I intended my post to open up a discussion about how to stop the Broncos' offense, which clearly relied heavily on the big play today.

I don't think anyone knows how to stop their offense.....no one really knows why their winning at all, lol.

The Steelers were down 4 defensive starters for most of the game (Clark who didn't play, Hampton and Keisel who went down with injuries early, and Woodley who was played sparingly). That played a big factor in their problems. Clark was a big loss because his replacement, Mundy, was constantly out of position.

Tebow's numbers are an aberration because of this. I don't think he would have gotten half these yards vs. a close to full strength Steelers' defense.

Patriots gave up a league leading 79 plays of 20+ yards in the regular season.

That's a comforting observation, seeing as how the Pats -- just like most other football teams -- have a defense that's 100% healthy in early January.

Yes, but Tom Brady is god's nephew. Jesus told us that on SNL a few weeks ago. Plus, I think he has another birthday party next week, so he won't be there for them then either. ;)

He also averaged 31.6 yards.

The Pats' defense is as healthy as it has been all season and the Steelers lost two starters on the d-line in game. It is always harder to recover from a loss of players in game than going into it. Look at the Giants' game, the Pats' defense was handling Manning and the Giants' offense very well until the last two drives after the defense lost Spikes, Chung, and Barrett just before those drives.

The Steelers didn't record a single QB hit today. Don't you think that it had a little to do with them losing 2/3 of their d-line in the first quarter?

Mundy on the last play of the game was just brutal. Not having Clark really killed them.

I thought Polamalu played really bad today on coverage..which is his usual standard.. you gotta give it to Tebow though, made some very accurate throws!

Thank you, I was going to look this up but couldn't find it. Thought I remembered seeing that somewhere (and the eye test kind of tips you off).

If you want something encouraging for Saturday's game defensively, it's that we were primarily gashed on the ground in our first meeting with Denver, and now have Chung and Spikes in there to add some thump.

That guy who drafted Demaryius Thomas can't evaluate talent to save his life.

I think having Spikes and Chung will help a lot on the ground, and not having McCourty at the corner should be a big help in the passing game, too.

Even with those players missing there is more talent on that Steeler D than the Patriots D at full stength.
The Broncos don't turn the ball over they will give the Patriots problems all game long.
