My mind boggles as to why Sterling Moore was released earlier this year

I commented on this guy on another thread and agree with the sentiments of most people..this guy has a future in the NFL. Oakland had to ditch as they were full at the position and had other areas of need....I know a lot of Oakland fans who weren't too impressed that they let him go.

He's a player...he's raw, but I think it's a simple case of teaching him and putting some more knowledge of the game into his head. The guy has the intangibles already and I have loved his development. He and Chung should be starting at safety for me.

His flexibility to come up and play man also helps a great deal.

I was baffled over him being cut especially when we replaced him with Jones, I mean huh?

Well if BB cuts Moore after today's effort, then color me even more baffled.

Re: Sterling Moore Makes Plays

He hits hard and appears to be in the right spot most times. Dislodges the ball, makes interceptions.

Fights for the ball. Before he was cut earlier this year, he looked like the only S we had who could play.
To be honest with you, I didn't even know that we had re-signed him until today when he took the field! As I recall he got torched in one game a few times (can't recall which one...maybe Gints or Pitt?) and next thing you know he was gone. I know like all of our secondary personnel they are going to be hot and cold.....but he looked really solid today. Hopefully, he will continue to play like he did today

He's a safety, and they stuck him at CB that game.

Glad to see the kid come around. why was he cut? Probably there were better players at the beginning of the season (Bodden-Ras-I). Maybe he needed the time on the PS to improve.

Now he looks like he could be a keeper.

He had never played safety in his life until his first career start @NYJ, he was a CB in college...and he looked good there today too, tight coverage and good hands.

Funny how after all the complaints we used to hear about the Pats' "smurf" CBs, everybody sees Moore as an obvious safety! Check it out:

Ellis Hobbs: 5'9" 192 lbs.
Sterling More: 5'9 1/2" 192 lbs.

But Hobbs was 5-9 in heels. :D

I remember the draft guides listing him as 5-7, then he grew 2 inches.

Re: Sterling Moore Makes Plays

My mind boggles at 90% of BB's personnel decisions this season. I USED TO think I understood Patriots football and how BB thought. Completely wrong. I'm boggled by the entire season of player moves, well aside from stuff like the Ventrone in-out thingy that BB does every year.

W. T. F. ???

I was sad when they let him go, and figured my assessment of him must have been wrong. I'm just happy to see someone making plays back there!

Believe it or not, the 5'9" was Hobbs' official Combine measurement!

I think Hobbs somehow gave off "tiny" vibes unrelated to his actual height. Same with Woodhead vs. Faulk -- everybody talkes about Woodhead as being the size of a garden gnome, whereas nobody said a word about Faulk's size. They're the exact same height, of course.

Very impressed with Moore today. Looks like we have two weeks to figure out what our defensive personnel will be in the secondary.

If McCourty gets the start at safety then depth chart for CBs should be:

1. Arrington
2. Molden/Moore
3. Moore/Molden
4. Jones
5. Edelman

Right?

Belichick can't see everything, he relies on his staff to evaluate based on practice, games, and film. He acts on their opinions. Unfortunately, most of the staff aside from Scar and Pepper aren't proven as talent evaluators, or had prior success coaching football before...

That's a load of crap ... he can see everything with one eye tied behind his back.

The defense got better after Moore, Spikes and Edelman came in. One thing these three players have in common is that they bring a nasty attitude on to the field and are fired up to be out there.

I was also very happy when Moore was re-signed.

Molden was just awful for much of the day. I was glad he got the pick at the end, but I'd prefer not to see him in or near Gillette.

I think that we were all surprised when Moore was cut. He certainly looked good enough to be at least our #4 safety and a prospect for 2012.

I think that we are glad to see him back. Surely, Moore and Ihedigbo should be expected to be in 2012 camp.

And just in general, height is one of the least reliable numbers in the NFL. It's like how Mario Williams is listed at 6'6" and was once called 6'9" during a game, even those he's 6'7" on the nose. Or how Ninkovich is listed at 6'2" despite being 6' 3 1/8"

I remember I picked Moore as our most impressive JAG in a poll a while ago, then he was cut that week and I felt pretty stupid.

Feeling vindicated today.

Stephen Neal was cut from the Patriots at one point. So even was Troy Brown. So there was hope for your opinion all along. :)

Right?

Agree on all - I like Moore more in the slot - Molden is average on a really good day for him....

I think it is very possible the only reason McCourty got any playing time at safety was to give Ihedigbo some rest and recovery time for the playoffs. Ihedigbo has been okay back there.
