ESPN Sky Cam Crashes

It really is disastrous for ESPN. They look like idiots. It missed a guy by about a foot. It must weigh about 100>125 pounds and is damned expensive. It'll go viral on Youtube in no time.

looool based on what??

that guy on the sideline carrying it like a briefcase should probably be playing o-line for us.

I'm just glad nobody was hurt. That could have killed someone.

Yeah...that was a late night misjudgment. BTW, what's looool mean? I see that that a little bit now.

It was virtually inevitable that something like this would happen. Those are very cool machines but machines ultimately break at some point, even with good maintenance. They are very fortunate that (a) nobody got hurt and (b) it didn't come in the middle of a play. Can you imagine? It'd be like one of those Buffalo Wild Wings commercials. Down 7 with 30 seconds to go, QB drops back, throws, ball is caught....as the defender tries to chase him down, the guy controlling the skycam loses it and it crashes on the defender, freeing up the receiver for a TD.

They really need to rethink those devices now completely. Personally, I *hate* the view it gives you when they use it for field goals. I have trouble seeing the ball as it is kicked when they use the skycam. I prefer the end zone view for those plays anyway.

Inflated domes on stadiums in the snow belt.

loooooool is just a more emphatic lol

like when lol isn't enough.

Well, I'm a Syracuse grad, and the Carrier Dome roof has collapsed at least twice that I know of. And obviously the one in Minneapolis. So yeah....it's bound to happen.

People blaming it on technology etc are wrong.

This was a simple failure of the 1/4 inch cable's solid attachment on one end. A concept we had a solid grasp on 150 years ago. These things need frequent safety inspections.

I blame Vince McMahon for introducing it to the world during the XFL's Inagural Season.

May SkyCam go the way of Fox's NHL color changing puck and that NBA 45 degree camera angle NBC tried for a while.

Funny, yet frightening. The comments are funny too.

"I used to play in the NCAA, then I took a Skycam to the knee."

Nah...Tono Romo usually does that to his team in the playoffs

playoffs.....he does it all decemeber

I'll be rooting for "Oh No Romo" tomorrow, though! Keep them Giants out of it! But if I was a betting man, and I am, I'd put my money on the Giants.

It was amazing how the ESPN announcers immediately went into joke mode and not once mentioned how someone could've gotten hurt.

I listened to it and thought the same thing, but also realized they probably didn't want to talk about that ugly possibility.

I thought it was cool that Sean McDonough did start making jokes about ESPN.

BTW, shout out to you from one of your friends from newears.org!

Nah, my bet is he works at Dunkin' Donuts between ESPN gigs.

Indeed, and mandatory replacement intervals, just because their failure could indeed injure players and/or fans.

Yabut the on-the-field first down line is with us forever, which is fine by me.

Also I personally like some of CBS's on-field graphics they put up, but maybe in a year or so I'll be sick of them.

Better than a baseball to the uterus!
