Are you getting nervous about Devin McCourty?

I am not getting nervous about McCourty. He will be expected to start next year, if Dowling doesn't beat him out.
====================
With regard to this season, I don't know how healthy he is or will be in a month.

to be honest, I am more concerned with the clowns (including chung) that they have playing safety. regardless of the reasoning, this group took a huge hit when meriweather and sanders were dumped.

the secondary has become a 3 ring circus, but the biggest problem with this team remains at LB

I wouldn't bank on Dowling...name a young CB who was injuried in his Rookie year and came on as world beater in BB tenure???? I am waiting:confused::confused: Ras-I Doowling = Adrian Klemm BB's first draft pick. We will be drafting another CB in 2012.

If McCourty is truly better than Arrington, than why this year, did opposing teams QBs throw the ball in Devin's direction and avoid Kyle?

There is a reason why you are the most thrown to corner in the league, teams know you are not playing well and will test it.

McCourty defends the the other Teams best WR.

people don't seem to understand the fact that the rookies who spend most of their season largely persona-non-grata never amount to a hill of beans around here......

I don't "bank" on Dowling. BTW, I am fine with drafting another defensive back in the first couple of rounds yet again.

Well, he seems to have come down with a case of Butler's syndrome. He can cover but he can't make a play on the ball or at least that was certainly the case yesterday. He is not the only issue back there but he did stand out and not in a good way. I dunno, should Molden get that spot and McCourty be moved to cover the slot?

Look we forget that the Colts, as woeful as they seem, have a great set of recievers, is that what we were seeing yesterday? Furthermore, I note that the pass rush was abysmal yesterday, is the Colts Oline that good? Lastly, every team that faces the Colts should be holding their breath. Anyone think that those guys want to go 0 & 16? I think they want a win desperately and they are playing as best they can to get that. I am sure that yesterday they were playing their super bowl. They lost it.

Just to put it into perspective, Duane Starks started 6 games in 2005, while playing in 7 total.

He had twice as many passes defended that McCourty has in 10 games, with 10 starts.

In case you didn't remember, Starks will forever be known as the patsfans whipping boy at the position of CB.
--------------------

In 2004, rookie Randall Gay started in less games than McCourty this yr, and that was in Gay's rookie year.

He went on to defend twice as many passes, and have 2 INT's with 2 recovered fumbles and a touchdown; and everyone called him a joke...
--------------------

In 2009, Nate Jones started half the number of games that McCourty did this yr and went on to defend 3x the number of passes, all while having 2 INT's and 2 forced fumbles.
--------------------

In 2005, rookie Ellis Hobbs (the worst CB in the history of the team according to some/most) started in less games than McCourty this year, and promptly recorded 12 (TWELVE) defended passes (4x the number of McCourty), with 3 INT's and 2 forced fumbles. He also averaged almost 25 yards a kickoff return.

Should I keep going????

Nervous? Nah.

Wondering what happens to DBs in Belichick's system and why he continues to miss on DB draft picks....that's making me more nervous. Besides Asante, I am honestly having a hard time thinking of a Belichick drafted and developed corner who had more than a year of sustained success.

If by covering the other teams' best WR from the left CB position is a standard set in stone, then I'll be damned...

How many snaps has McCourty had at the right CB position this year, just out of curiosity? More than a handful?

Yeah...nice try.

“That’s the life of playing corner,” McCourty told the Boston Herald after Saturday’s win. “You make a play and then they come right back and make a play...with the receivers in this league they’re going to make some plays and you’re going to make some plays but it’s back and forth every week.”

Sounds like a confidence problem. He seems to suggest he expects receivers to have equal measures of success and failure against him - that's a far cry from some semblance of the "McCourty Island" we were hoping for.

Not at all. The guy is as bad as he seems. Why getting nervous?

I wasnt nervous with Maroney or Meriweather. You know than Maroney can avoid dance, that Meriweather cant tackle and made stupid penaltys snd for McCourty, he cant cover . Its nothing wrong or something to be nervous. He is what he is.

Yeah he had an awesome rookie season, yada yada.

Well guess what, guys like Eugene Wilson and Nick Kaczur all looked like future Pro Bowler too during their rookie seasons. McCourty is toast. Just cut him when the season's over and draft another 1st round CB.

I cringe when the ball is thrown his way. I really like the guy as a person, but on the field he's just not cutting it. There is a good possibility of a playoff loss solely from his poor coverage. QB's know the weakness the Pats have there, and exploit it every game.

I'm just glad we have Belichick leading this organization, and not one of the monkeys who wants to quit on every player who isn't ready right away.

PS.... it wasn't just a "good" rookie year. It was the best rookie year for a corner I've ever seen or heard of. Only a fool gives up on that kind of talent.

A sophomore slump is a pretty common occurrence, especially after you set the bar so high. He's been battling injuries this year, too.

Relax.

no question he is having a bad year but the talent is still there. He needs to find his mojo again. A word of advice to Baltimore phony Pats fan. I'd be more concerned about why Oher is stinking out the field this year for your Ravens.

I know this has probably been mentioned here already, but is there something wrong with this kids neck? They have been plenty of times when the ball has hit his head or
the WR has turned to catch the ball and not once does he look back.

At some point he has to make a play on the ball
