Name the 1 (one) thing you would change about the NFL

Overtime, college rules except have kickoffs still. Tv stations would probably never allow that so at very least have the new playoff rules apply to the regular season. Basically the rules are implying regular season games aren't as important. You can lose an overtime game on first possession and can miss the playoffs.

Bill Polian would cease to exist.... :D

Get rid of the Pro Bowl and...
have the 2 worst teams playing for the #1 Pick after the SB.The 2 teams can be
from the same Conference.

...and call it the Toilet Bowl!

I am having a hard time deciding between a fifteen yard penalty and first down for PI -- or -- penalizing players who call for the flag.

I would settle for the complete removal of instant replay

ONE THING I DISLIKE

nfl's exclusive deal with Direct TV

The patriots have played in the Toilet Bowl before. Loser received the #1 draft pick.

Go back 2004 Personal Foul unnecessary roughness rules.. I don't want to see elite players hurt but it has gone out of control.. every week we see terrible calls that should have been no calls.. it changes games on a weekly basis and I think that is unfortunate.

Allow CBS/Fox to show a game at the same time the other network is showing the local market team.

Outlawed in my NFL:
  • domes
  • fake grass
  • tv timeouts
  • Dan Dierdorf

1. Drop the 2005 Polian Rule point of emphasis prohibiting contact beyond 5 yds from LOS. The offense favoring rules are ruining the game with 16 Dan Marinos a season.

2. Make IR less draconian, q.v. allow an in season PUP of 6-10 weeks min-max. That would prevent trivial use of the designation and would improve the product with guys like Glass IR Dowling etc. being able to play. It's entertainment. Why be a Debbie Downer and punish fans?

3. Make PI spot fouls limited to 15 yards and allow the refs to review the foul if "upstairs" decides there's reason.

5. Cheerleaders must be topless. Especially in cold weather.

6. Outlaw any penalties on the New England Patriots

It would be nice to get some of the bad defensive penalties fixed like PI and such...

But what I would truly get rid of would be comercial breaks. just advertise on the wall like hockey

I am one of the minority that would rather see playoffs in a fashion that produces the teams with the top 6 records in the conference getting into the playoffs and screw the division regardless of rivalries.

When a 7-9 team wins the division and gets in and a 10-6 team does not because they are in a tough division just isn't fair to me.

When NE went 11-5 and didn't get in,it really stunk and thats a small example of many over the years.

But this type of scenerio won't happen ....ever

That rule was put in place to increase competitiveness around the league. Imagine being a team with a ton of injuries going up against a fully stacked team of 53.

The rule I would change is Defensive Pass Interference. It needs to be tiered based on how far from the line of scrimmage it happened and how bad it was. Too many teams are getting freebie TDs on the 1 yard line. When you combine the low success rate of long passing plays with the possibility of PI getting called it makes taking those shots down the field more enticing than they should be.

If I can be greedy his Holiday season, the second rule I would change is the difference between a runner getting a TD and a receiver catching a TD in the end zone. These rules need to be more inline. It just doesn't make sense right now. Receivers are getting the shaft or maybe runners have it too easy.

Then I would say to allow PS players to be activated if a team has too many injuries.

Most teams have 3 specialist, punter, kicker, and long snapper. That's taking 3 position players out of the game.

Hitting with the crown of your helmet should be a 2-game suspension without pay for first offense and add two games for each subsequent offense (4 games for 2nd offense, 6 for 3rd, etc). There is absolutely nothing accidental about dropping your head to strike another player. Kids are getting hurt in PeeWee's through High School copying idiots like Harrison. Watch how quickly this vanishes with strong penalties.

I agree with "inactives" being a useless rule.

I would get rid of intentional grounding - if you can get rid of the ball in time, why not be allowed to even if you are between the tackles? I hate that penalty.

I also hate PI as a spot foul. It decides too many games (or gives too many teams a gift on the one yard line). But I know it's hard to fix as many would be tempted to knock down receivers on long throws. Maybe make it a 15 yard penalty and an automatic 1st down? I don't know; I just hate it and it always seems to come at the worst possible time.

This is my rule change too. Here's how I would do it. Have it like the old facemask penalty: a major and a minor.

Minor (incidental): the lesser of (a) 15 yards or (b) the spot of the foul.
Major (purposeful): the greater of (a) 15 yards or (b) the spot of the foul.
**In either case it's an automatic first down.

I realize this leaves some judgment for the officials. I'd have the major be only really, really obvious kinds...and those called rarely. The vast majority should be of the minor variety. But I don't want defenders who are getting burned on a deep pattern, and *know* they're getting burned deep, to be able to just grab a guy so they only give up 15 instead of 30 or whatever. If they do that, that's a spot foul. But for most, it's incidental contact. If it happens 8 yards away, it's an 8 yard penalty. If it happens 29 yards away, it's a 15 yard penalty. In both cases it's still an automatic first down, so that's a pretty stiff fine there as well.

I wonder what the over/under would be on a game like that since both teams would be trying to lose!!

There are certain things about the NFL that make no sense tome. Like last week when the PAT was muffed and run back. That should have been a safety. Why can you run back a muffed FG and not a muffed PAT?

I thought that as well! Or at least 1pt!
