Hi all,
Well, I thought I would put some thoughts to "paper" and do some scouting reports of players I have targeted as potential patriots picks. I am trying to form an opinion on these guys without being influenced by outside sources. If people find these useful or entertaining, I will continue to do them, if not, no biggie, I will keep them for draft day and beyond to see who I was right on and who I missed.
Anyways, first report. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Michael Floyd, WR-Notre Dame
6'3", 224 lbs.
Positives:
Extremely strong, can fight through man coverage. Uses hands to catch the ball. Goes up and gets the ball at it highest point. Runs good routes and runs routes that you would see in the Patriots offense. Above average run blocker.
Negatives:
Off field issues cannot be ignored. Not overly fast and not real explosive off the line. Junior year he seemed to have bulked up which left him a little stiff, but seems to have corrected some of that in his senior year.
Overall:
Fits the mold of a Patriots wide receiver to a T. Will not be a spread the field type of guy but looks to run the route tree very well. One of the better run blocking wide receivers in the draft which is a huge plus on the Patriots. Saw some plays that he looked to get frustrated and maybe take some off, but for the most part, seemed like a hard worker that cared about winning. Very strong hands. Needs to be careful not to get to bulky as he loses some of his mobility when he did his junior year. Not sure if David Givens is the right comparison, but I do see some similarities, but obviously Floyd would be a more talented version.

Up next:
Mohamed Sanu

I'm a big ND fan and watch most of their games. I also feel the Patriots only lack a true #1 WR offensively. However, Floyd is NOT the guy the Patriots want. He has numerous mental lapses in every game. I've seen the games that make everyone say the positive things you noted, but his negatives grossly outweigh his positives. Comparison to Givens is fair but Givens was a 7th round pick. Wouldn't draft Floyd before 3rd round.

I agree he is definitely not a true #1 outside thread and I saw the mental lapses that you mentioned as well. I saw it as a frustration thing due to bad play, but it did seem to stick with him for several plays before he got back into the game 100%. I am working on tape of Sanu right now because I had seen his name linked to the patriots, but as a sneak preview, I don't think he fits the mold of a #1 either.
