Tom Curran: Patriots used the Colts game to experiment with players

not that i agree with that poster but you cant just make personal attacks without any INFO to way you disagree with them it's uncalled for IMO

A statement of fact is not a personal attack. (good rythme:D)

As a said, I have no problem with RATIONAL fans being peeved that this game to get as close as it did. Likewise, RATIONAL fans should also recognize the value and importance of making sure the backend of the lineup (particurly the secondary) is the absolute best it can be.

Ditto injuries.

This will be critical if we play Green Bay or New Orleans. People also seem to forget Charles Woodson went down in the Super Bowl and that it was depth that got Green Bay to the Super Bowl.

Balancing winning, injury prevention, and reserve player evaluation is not an exact science.

That's far and away different than some holistic damnation. It's simply that obvious. This guy might as well argue that water rolls up from being spilled on the table.

Can we have a moderator involved here. I want this clown to stop calling me a Jets fan. If he continues then I want to be able to call him everything I want. Right now, I have been holding back, but I lived in this state for 38 years, don't you dare call me a Jets fan you (Insert insult here)! But, you know about as much football as my dog.

If you're not smart enough to make an intelligent defense that's not my fault. But in the end this team lacks talent on defense.

Taylor Price, they took Vereen 15 picks in front of DeMarco Murray. Murray was 10X the player Vereen was in college playing in a much better league.

Look at this defense next year. Where is the maturing young talent?

On the field, stopping DeMarco Murray.

i agree with this i dont see way the pats cant make it to the SB even with all the injury the hottiest team in the AFC right now is denver as good as Tebow has been he's not going to win in a shootout with Brady

Yes, you are doing a great job holding back the insults. Classy posts like this show such restraint.

I take nothing from yesterday's game.

Belichick used it to evaluate players on both offense and defense. Curran is right.

I think it was another subtle dig by BB to Polian (Like the "we won 11 games with Cassel" dig recently).

BB: "I'll start 3 or 4 guys who have never played a game. Give another half dozen backups significant time. And my bottom of the roster guys will STILL beat your ass." :D

Isn't it a lil dumb to think all the doom and gloom centers around your defense giving up yards and some points while up a minimum 3 scores in the latter half of the 4th quarter?

It's amazing. I hope we do this because the coaching staff wants to make sure our up 3 TD's in the 4th quarter defense is ready for the Super bowl.

I'd have to look at the snap count, but I don't recall seeing much of Molden at CB yesterday. In fact, I think the first time I noticed him was on STs coverage.

I thought Nate Jones was a pleasant surprise as a scrappy guy who could really help out the secondary.

"We'll get back to work here and get ready for Washington next week." - BB

The Steelers blew the Bengals out this week. They turned in a pathetic performance against the Chiefs last week and barely won. And so it goes.

Time to move on to next week's game.

Someone else (Bella*chick who deserves the credit for finding this) posted this in the post game thread, but I think it deserves its own thread to talk the doom and gloomers off the ledge. Curran points out that Belichick tried out players at new positions and gave end of the roster back ups significant time to see what they could do. It was like the Pats turned this game into a glorified preseason game or scrimmage:

Curran: Belichick uses Colts to further experiment

Thanks, Rob. That's a great link. It's pretty much what I worried when I made my "Predict the Score" entry this week; I commented there that I thought folks predicting blowouts could make up a lot of ground, but that it was a risky prediction. I opted for what I thought was a conservative prediction and still ended up missing the mark in double digits!

I'm sorry, were you not aware the injuries at C? Jones over Moore, wow how much clearer could that have been to me

Delusional people are arguing BB started scrubs over our usual scrubs at those positions.

I'm sure there was SOME experimenting going on.....but c'mon, people, most of the super-scrubs were in because of injury. Plus, if this was "experiement" day, I just can't see BB being THAT pissed-off that the super-scrubs were unable to do what he wanted them to do.

I chalk it up to a few things: immaturity, youth, inexperience, lack of talent, lack of continuity, lack of mental discipline, lost focus.

It was ugly in the 4th quarter, but I take it as a positive actually. Great lesson learned and a great tool for BB to motivate and teach with - both the mental and physical parts of the game.

He isn't pissed off that they were "unable to do what he wanted them to do."

He was pissed off that the score was 34-3 through 3 quarters, and jumped to 34-24 in ONE quarter.

Not buying it. You know why Slater was playing safety? Because sadly he might be the best option out of undrafted scrubs. He preached all weak about taking them seriously, he wouldn't **** off with experimenting.

Always better to watch what Yoda does and not what he says.

Really? I can see BB being pissed that the scrubs played so poorly against the awful Colts. BB himself says he is not an easy guy to play for and expecting guys to fill in and do an adequate job in unfamiliar positions on a week's notice is probably a big part of that.

I can't help but laugh when people act like they know what BB is thinking.

"Obscure it is what a Jedi Master thinks. It is actions we must watch not words we must believe."

UNFORTUNATELY THERE ARE STYLE POINTS......

BOTH RAVENS (+7) and SQUEELERS (+21) made up ground on the SOV tiebreaker on Pats last night. Houston maintained being IN FRONT OF PATS on SOV tiebreaker.

We dont have enough common games and everybody who can tie with Pats is going to have the same # of AFC wins. SOV is going to be the dealbreaker (except for a 2-way H-H w/ Pitt).

As I've pointed out in another thread, what you're talking about is point differential, which is the #10 tiebreaker. SOV is like SOS, except that it only includes teams you beat.

He isn't pissed off that they were "unable to do what he wanted them to do."

He was pissed off that the score was 34-3 through 3 quarters, and jumped to 34-24 in ONE quarter.

...and I am assuming he wanted them to hold the lead somewhat and maybe score? LOL!

Saw a comment on another thread and it deserves repeating: if BB used yesterday as "experiment" day, why not experiment more with that failed experiment named Ocho? Why not give the Fresh Prince of Belaire, Underwood, more reps?
