Peyton Manning Update: Doctor Says Neck Fusion Has Healed Firmly For Colts QB

see thats what most other people dont understand. There are probably like 15 other teams who would trade for that pick. As our players age, our first pick for more picks! I can name many teams who will trade for Luck:

Redskins
Dolphins (maybe)
Jets (Dirty Sanchez's number suck)
Cleveland
Jaguars
Tennessee
Chiefs
Raiders
Cowboys
Vikings
Cardinals
Rams
Seahawks...

I think the Luck deal that Indy is going to get compensated for is going to make Ditka's attempt to wipe out his entire draft for Ricky Williams look like a walk in the park.

The Colts are going to have a wealth of draft picks in the next several years because of their draft position.

The Dolphins have stated on more than one occasion, they will do everything possible to get the best team on the field and the best head coach going into the future....and Luck might be the centerpiece on that mantle.

If Andrew Luck is drafted and Manning decides to still play, there will be a blockbuster trade of Manning elsewhere to another team.

We have seen the greatest QB to ever to play the game in Joe Montana who went to KC in his mid 30s and no reason why Manning can't leave like that....I don't know about the contract though and if it's possible.

Peyton would never leave the Colts...that doesnt make any sense. Most of us Colts fans are NOT even curious to see what Andrew Luck has to bring. We want the guy with the laser rocket arm to lead our team!

Excellent news. As much as I dislike anybody getting in the way of Pats victories, there is no way I would wish for bad health on a worthy rival competitor.

At this point though it seems to me that it makes no sense to rush him back to the field of play, since there is zero chance of the Colts making the playoffs. The prudent course of action would have been to put Manning on IR a few weeks ago when it was obvious that the season was lost. There's no need for him to get playing time in; he'll have an entire off-season of OTAs and then training camp to prepare for 2012, unlike this past off-season.

I see no upside for either him or the Colts if he were to return to action this year.

There's a huge payment due to Manning in the offseason. One reason to get the fivehead back on the field is to make sure that he's healed enough to be worth making that payment.

Sooo... is he starting Sunday? :D

yea but all of the teams i listed above have had SOME sort of winning seasons the past 5-10 years...

Redskins have not done ANYTHING since the early 90's!

And also Cleveland...but Redskins have the most cap room in the league.

That the vertebra fusion would heal was fairly certain since bones with good blood supply typically do heal well, but it is good news nevertheless.

It says nothing about whether there is evidence yet of nerve regeneration, which is the primary issue, and needed for full sensation and strength in his hands and arms.

I certainly wish him well.

And, a QB who can coach.

Caldwell doesnt have a clue.

Based on Polian's drafting over the past half-decade, it really won't matter how many picks they have. If they spend them on guys like Marlin Jackson, Joseph Addai, Anthony Gonzalez, Donald Brown, and Jerry Hughes, they'll continue their descent into irrelevence.

I fully expect him to be on the sidelines this Sunday. This is the Colts Super Bowel this season.

Very good point, I had forgotten about that.

As for the opinions about trading Manning, I'm not so sure about that. It seems like the new cap is a lot easier to deal with than the caps of ten years ago, but can Indy deal with absorbing the acceleration of his signing bonus into the next cap if they trade him?

I wonder if Indy took any injury precautions into account with Manning's last contract. Players sometimes take injury insurance on themselves; did the Colts do the same with Manning? If so, would they pressure him to retire?

I'm happy that his surgery has healed well. I hope it allows him to live a normal life.

+ 1. There are more important things than football, though if it's safe, I hope he comes back. One of the greatest ever, no doubt.

Hopefully he has a full recovery that will aloow him to finish his career healthy, it will be a shame if his career is prematurely ended by this injury. His post career health is paramount however.

Exactly... All this means is he is cleared to attempt more rehab. Whether or not the nerves in question that never regenerated after the first procedure and the stem cell attempt ever will remains the $28M question...

If they cut Manning before the deadline for his option bonus (5 days before the new league year) their dead cap for 2012 is $10.4M (because they already absorbed 20% of the amortization from that bonus in 2011).

They cannot trade him unless they pick up his option (we're past the trade deadline and there are no trades allowed again until the new league year and FA opens). If they pick up the option they can't trade him because their dead cap would then be $38M+ ($16M remaining from the amortized signing bonus and $22M+ remaining from the amortized option bonus) in 2012...

I don't think football teams tend to insure contracts because they aren't guaranteed. And in Manning's case he couldn't pass a physical to get the insurance because his neck was the issue. The Colts didn't even due a physical before they signed the extension because they knew what the issue was...they just didn't realize how bad it actually was.

hope he gets to play 3 more years at a high level or at lest has a great life after football

AGREED! couldnt say it any better...but I think Luck may be overrated too. People also need to know that a quarterback HAS to fit in the system too! I wonder how many busts could have been avoided if they had a better coaching or a system around them...

50% of people said Ryan Leaf was the better prospect. You don't know anymore than you know if Manning can play at an elite level.

What is known is a QB's career is finite and Manning is in his mid 30's and only has a few left.

If Manning is back,Luck will NOT be an Indianapolis Colt.......PERIOD!

The Colts will opt for a team giving them the kitchen sink in trades, then Polian will try and find a Tom Brady late in the draft

Luck is too big a prospect to be holding a clipboard for 3 or more years....it will never happen

I do think there is a chance that Peyton does consider retirement, then that's a different story, altogether.

The Colts would be foolish to pass up on the best QB prospect in years in the hopes of getting a couple more years out of a QB with neck problems.

The Colts would also be equally foolish to think Luck will replicate Manning's past level of play.

Even if he does get well from that neck injury - one sack and the man is on the way to IR straight away.
