The Price is right?

yep, ive said it for awhile. we need either Ochocinco or Taylor Price to develop into a productive receiver for us to be successful going forward.

Well said and worthy of a re-post. IMHO, the difference between the Patriot offense of September and the Patriot offense of Giants, Cowboys, Pitt, first half of KC is exactly what is posted above. In the absence of evidence that explains why the offense is noticeably less effective than it was in the beginning of the season, I have to conclude opposing defenses have figured out how to shut down WW and Branch. Shutting them down, especially WW, appears to mean the Patriot O will not dominate from the opening kick off. It also seems reasonable to conclude that a productive third option at the WR position will shake up what opposing defensive game plans currently are doing. While it might be a bit too dramatic to say this, I don't think it is totally unreasonable to think a productive third WR could be the difference between regaining offensive dominance and a deeper run into the playoffs (versus an early exit).

Kudos to OchoCinco for his efforts to get better but it simply has not yet panned out. If he isn't ready to go against Philly, I am eager to see what someone else can offer (is Price in the building????).

let's look at this another way we are always being told that until Brady trusts you in this precesion offense you don't get many throws from him. And we now know teams can shut down our wide outs especially if they have a good slot corner like Dallas, Pittsburgh even the Jets and defintely the Packers with their ball hawkers. Right now what hurts this teams is not drafting and developing wr's and pass rush defensive players or even pursuing them in FA. So with that said I would play Price he can't be any worse than Ocho and maybe for once since the break, can we see a wr running free in the secondary like you see in almost every other game on tv.

The first rule of Taylor Price club is you do not talk about Taylor Price, the second rule...

its not just about the Deep ball, but I think its important we have someone who can beat their man in man to man/press coverage and get open, and someone who can play the sidelines.

alot of the reason for bradys sacks, interceptions etc. is because

1. he is holding onto the ball so long because no one is open.
2. defenses are clogging the middle of the field where all our TE's, WR's operate.

in a sick sort of way, I kind of hope they sit out branch against the eagles. the only way someone like Price/Ocho is going to get more comfortable in this offense is for them to play extended snaps and not just 10-11 where 50% of them are running plays.

I dont care who it is, I just want one of them to be productive. I mean price has been here long enough that he at least deserves a chance

We need OL protection to throw downfield. I'd rather see us shorten it up and go with quick throws.

Which does raise a good point about situational football - especially if an O-Line is banged up and a QB with potentially tennis elbow.

But generally the vast majority of pass plays are 10 yards or under - no matter what.

The Patriots simply have no deep option and because defenses know that, there's much more pressure put upfront on the O-Line. A deep threat helps the OL greatly and keeps DBs further back.

Can a team win without a deep threat? Yes. Is the lack of a deep threat a liability that an opponent can potentially exploit? Yes - and that often shows up in the playoffs against the best teams.

As much as they need the OL and Brady to be healthy, they definitely would prefer to establish a halfway credible deep threat between now and the playoffs - regardless of the health of the OL - indeed because of it.

I hope so. Last week, our WR caught 4 balls.

Again - to a degree this is situational football. And its worth nothing that while we've seen Welker and other WRs taken out of games, it is REALLY difficult for defenses to stop Gronkowski.

He's too tall, fast, and strong for most LBs or DBs to handle. When you have TEs like Gronk and Hernandez, I'm expecting they'll see a lot of balls coming their way.

That doesn't mean we don't need a deep threat - it just means that Gronkowski is that unique.

"Taylor Price is expected to see an expanded role with Chad Ochocinco (hamstring) ruled out for Sunday's game against the Eagles.
Price worked at both the ''Split End'' and "Flanker'' receiver spots in practice this week and is coming off his most extensive playing time of the season in Monday Night's game against the Chiefs. With Ochocinco being declared out, and Deion Branch limited with a hamstring injury, he'll have an opportunity to compete for a starting job if he can put together a complete game. The Eagles have the NFL's 11th rated pass defense, but could be without star CB Nnamdi Asomugha, who hyperextended his left knee in Friday's practice".

I was worried, where would we be without our weekly Price love.

Anyone catch that sick TD he had in August? Dude is a beast man.

Should've kept Brandon Tate.

Who apparently sucked, but as 4th, and then 3rd WR, had 20+ receptions and 3 TDs by this time last year.

Not to mention his 2 KR TD's.

The Price is Wrong, *****.

Tate doesn't have a catch this season.

Fixed that for you, Price isn't an NFL performer period, not much is needed to replace him.

After today, Price will be probably be leading Tate in the receptions category. Also, while Tate doesn't have Brady throwing the ball, he also doesn't have a murderer's row of wideouts to compete against in Cincinnati, yet he can't get on the field with the offense.

Whether Price is an NFL performer is a question that will begin to get answered after today.

Going into the season I was very high on Price. He played well in limited action week 17 last season; which is regular season NFL action, and he played very well in the pre-season. At the very least he is physically gifted. I have a feeling he will be very good. I am just hoping he could be very good this season. That might get answered today.

Smith didn't really play until the bye week this season for the Ravens. His best games include.
5 Rec, 152 yrds, 3 TD's.
3 Rec, 82 yrds.
5 Rec, 71 yrds, 1 TD.
6 Rec, 165 yrds,1 TD
Not bad for a rookie earning playing time this year. If we had a threat like that on the outside our offense would be much better. I'm hoping Price could give us a deep threat.

Smith has shown some really fascinating potential, but that doesn't mean I'm sold on the kid. While that 5-reception, 71 yard game is included as one of his best, don't forget to include the 4 dropped passes in that game as well. He caught the game-winning touchdown, but he also dropped the game-winning touchdown only a few plays before.

Kudos to him for bouncing back, and for making some big plays as a rookie. He caught a nice touchdown last week, but it almost slipped out of his hands too. It wasn't a clean catch. There's no doubting the kid's speed. There's also no doubting the hands need work.

He is what he is, a rookie that needs to improve. It's not fair to judge him based on what he is now, but I'm not about to give up on a bunch of other players either after half a season. Let's see how it goes in a few years before anointing this kid the next Mike Wallace, or the rest of our draft class as complete busts.

So when he gets zero catches today that will begin to tell something? This has been common knowledge for a while.

what type of nfl play has Price gotten for us to say how he will be in the NFL??? 18 snaps this year where 50% were running plays and 1 target?

I dont get why you are so down on the kid...he looked good against Miami last year and in the pre-season...any pats fan should hope that the kid can repeat that sort of performance because it can help us alot.

he was redshirted last year, but that mainly was because he came from an option offense and needed time to learn the pats complicated schemes.
