Report: Brady has tennis elbow

Tennis elbow is generally a repetitive motion injury resulting from the opposite motion of throwing a football (a backhand in tennis). So for anyone talking about a chronic tennis elbow situation with Brady, that doesn't seem likely.

The evidence points to a contact injury against Dallas (the bone bruise initially reported) that also resulted in some tendon discomfort. The tendon involved with tennis elbow connects to the outside of the elbow, which seems to be where Brady had his contact injury.

I believe the tennis elbow reporting is completely based on the wrap Brady is wearing on his forearm...which is the same one commonly used for tennis elbow. While contact at the point where that tendon connects to the bone can cause the same situation (microscopic tears), it isn't common. So transposing a typical tennis elbow situation (treatment, recovery, ongoing issues) seems to be a significant leap based on available information.

Brady hurt his elbow over a month ago, it resulted in some pain/discomfort when throwing the ball and the brace helps the situation. There really isn't any evidence (grip issues, inability to drive/spin the ball downfield) to suggest anything more than that.

I've dealt with this in both elbows over the years. Although called Tennis Elbow, it's simply a repetitive stress injury of the tendon. Little tears reoccur and scar tissue builds up. If you catch it early and treat with PT and stop injuring the tendon, you've got a good chance of recovery.

Cortisone shots help, but long term are less effective and will weaken the tendon and you risk rupture. A good doc will limit these in long term treatment.

I ended up opting to do a tendon release (in both elbows). Just enough to reduce the tension to stop the tearing. Not cut the tendon completely. Worked well both times. No idea if this is done with athletes, but for average folks, it works 90% of the time when all other options are exhausted.

I really hope it's "just" a bone bruise!!

thankfully it is just a "REPORT" many of them do not hold water and are based on mere speculation.

I hope it isn't Tennis Elbow... tendon and ligament injuries SUCK. My left wrist still says hi to me.:(

I know Tennis Elbow is a legit injury, but can we, for the sake of masculine preservation call it something else? Tennis Elbow just seems so...weak. Can we just call it something like Odin's Blueballs or Neptune's Priapism? I just can't fathom attributing something that calls to mind 140 pound Euros grunting like powerbottoms to a tough season for one of the greatest football players to ever live.

Lateral epicondylitis

2. The coaching staff is partially to blame. I made posts about this at the beginning of the year. Brady throwing 40+ passes in some games was unnecessary. We didnt draft 2 RBs and put together a mauling OLine so Brady could pass so much.

I'm sorry, but I find this notion ridiculous. Do you seriously think those extra eight throws a week are harming his elbow?

Eh, I'm not worried about it.

I hope this is not a curse that haunts us.

So many doctors on this board

This thread made me really nervous, but Brady looked fine against the Eagles, IMHO.

Let's hope he can keep it up. :)

Well he was playing without the black band, which would seem to indicate he's over his injury. Thank goodness!

His Tennis elbow seemed to respond to the offensive line blocking well and giving him time to throw. :p
