Albert Haynesworth started today for the Bucs and had 4 tackles unassisted and one assist for a total of 5. In 8 games for the Patriots he had only 3, so he had 67% more tackles today than in 8 games as a Patriot.

Doesn't that make you wonder why he couldn't, or wouldn't, do that for us? Was it scheme? Was it the way he was being used? Did he suddenly get healthy in one week?

Discuss.

More than likely it was that Albert knew all eyes were on him and he decided to show up.

Fat lot of good it did them in the end.

Oh, and he also had a blocked kick. Why can't we get players like that?

Probably the scheme, I'm guessing he had gap responsibilities here.

Well, it helps that he was obviously playing more on running downs. He was used mostly in a subpackage role for the Pats, meaning fewer runs up the middle and fewer tackle opportunities.

And it wasn't the scheme. I believe it was one of the Jets OL that said that the Pats were 2-gapping with everyone else while letting Haynesworth 1-gap.

I thought he knew all eyes were on him here. How many times did he say he came here to "resurrect his career"?

A combo of both scheme and reps imo. We saw AH commanding double teams so the spin machine can't pretend he was washed. Maybe his effort wasn't optimal but he's still clearly a capable NFL starting quality DT in a 4-3 base.

He was being asked to 2-gap @ times which he isn't so great @ so maybe that's part of it as well.

Wasn't he trying to make a go of it at first? Albert always needs some time to ease back into Fat Albert mode.

Haynesworth has already made a big difference to the Bucs. The Bucs stout defense held the Texans' offense to only 420 yards and 37 points. Clearly Haynesworth makes defenses far better.

I thought Haynesworth played well at times for the Pats, but let's face it. He is not a difference maker anymore.

I am not so naive as to think that tackles is the sole measure of the contributions of a defensive player, nor do I think that any one player is responsible for a defense that gives up 37 points vs say, 6 points. But still - 3 tackles in 8 games? Am I the only one who thinks the switch was flipped on today?

Yeah, he was so awesome the other team only managed a lowly 37 points! (hey, wait a minute, even our woebegone, banged up, crappy D doesn't usually give up that many points).

You may be the only one. Matt Schaub complete 11 of 15 passes for 242 yards and 2 TDs. That's 16.1 yards per attempt. That tells me Schaub had a lot of time to throw. So Hayneswroth didn't pressure the QB enough. The Bucs only had one sack so he didn't even tie up players to make plays.

He was definitely ineffective against the run since the Bucs rushed for 185 yards and 3 TDs.

If this is flipping the switch, no wonder the Pats cut him. I admit I didn't watch the game. But based on the Texans' offensive performance, Haynesworth was a non-factor today. He probably only had four tackles because the Texans rushed 44 times and he played a lot of downs.

The Bucs probably played him.

Ayone who thinks this guys is going to make an impact for the Bucs is out of their gourd. I don't care if he had 10 sacks. He'll have worn out his welcome by the end of the season.

Tampa is more of 1 gap defense, so less responsibility for him.

As usuall Boston area fans attack a player on his way out of town, the bottom line is the GM is killing the coach with all the personnel decisions going back to 2006. As it stands now we have no back up OL, we are skeleton crew at wr with no one that can get seperation and except for McCourty are you trying to tell me that the people starting in the dbackfield are better than Butler, Wheatly, Merriweather or even Sanders? I always believe what I see with my eyes and this team right now is on a runaway train down hill and why? It seems as though every decision has money tied to it, whether its the draft, FA or just team personnel decisions and i feel this way because how do you explain the decisions in the dbackfield?

Is the OP using these tackle stats in a vacuum?

if you WATCHED the game and Haynesworth stuck out to you,we must have watched two different games.Tampa's D got crucified...at home...I guess when you play more than nine snaps a game, your tackle totals will rise...especially when the other team is running right at you...BTW I watched the game with the package and the Hayneworth I saw was the same Haynesworth I saw here.

EDIT: I originally had a real response to this, but after reading your post carefully, I erased it. Common sense would be wasted on you.

Like someone else alluded to.. the Texans ran it a ton. When you have that many rushes against you, you're bound to get some tackles in the middle.

I read this post, and, since I didn't pay any attention to the Bucs game today, I figured they must have won with a strong defensive effort.

Then I went to ESPN to check the score.

I LOL-ed. Hard.
