Steelers Fans Not Optimistic About 10-30-2011

Well I'm Optimistic. I think if the Steelers play flawless and can generate some turnovers they can win this game.

To answer an earlier question, the Field in Pittsburgh doesn't turn into total garbage until Thanksgivign weekend when the local highschools have their playoffs in the stadium. It is usually around that weekend, when there are 4 games in 2 days at the stadium that the field turns to crap.

I'd like to see Ike Taylor put man on man against Welker and see if he can't shut down that guy. Have Troy cover over the top the Two TEs for the Pats that are putting up stupid numbers for Tight ends and I'd like to see if the Oline can protect Ben for 4 seconds, enough time to get Wallace about 49 yards down field on a seem pass.

But it should be a good game. Patriots are the Steelers Nemesis, having won 7 out of the last 9 match ups. At this point, its a game we need to win to stay on pace for the Division title with the Ravens. So we'll see how it goes. I know we won't be over looking the Pats which was the fear with the Cardinals yesterday.

Thanks for the field info, Dino. There's a joke in there about bad grass and the munchies and Thanksgiving and turkey and ketchup, but not sure I can find it.

The thing the Steelers have going for them is that the Patriots have changed their offense.

We did, but it's essentially the same offense as last season when the Pats tore them a new one.

the difference I see is the Steelers have changed their Defense. Not sure I can remember the last time we weren't #1 against the Run and were actually #1 against the Pass. I think **** Lebeau has changed the scheme over all to be a stop the pass first type of defense. Which is why teams are able to run more on us than normal.

Not sure that will work against Brady though. Really, I want to see Welker covered one on one by Ike. I'm worried about your RBs in the passing game ripping up our inside line backers as well. Farrior and Foote are pretty bad nowadays on pass coverage, and with Timmons playing outside, and not covering passes, I'm worried about the dink and dunk ripping us apart. Hopefully we can get that addressed.

The Bills beating the Pats had nothing to do with laws of average though. It has to do with the fact that this is the first year in years that the Bills have a good team.

And they still would have lost if any one of three throws weren't deflected directly to a Bills defender.

Keep Brady clean, and this game won't be close.

Ike (two years ago Steelers fans wanted him gone) has turned into a pretty good CB, but if he's put on Welker one on one with no help, the Steelers are in trouble.

"Flawless" for the 2011 Pittsburgh Steelers is a low bar. Through 7 games, the Steelers have turned the ball over 14 times: 8 interceptions and 6 fumbles lost. They've taken the ball 4 times for a Minus 10.

A day at the office for Ben Roethlisberger is one to two interceptions and somebody will cough up a fumble. This is a team obsessing about ball security. The Patriots' defense is feeling good about themselves after two good outings against the Jets and Cowboys. My guess is they focus on stopping Mendenhall.

If the Steelers choose the Jets' approach - best cover corner on Welker - then they basically allow Belichick to arrange the Steelers' coverage by placing Welker in a different spot every play. Usually in a no huddle. Welker will still get his 6 -8 catches.

Troy Polamalu will be busy Sunday and probably be a target early to keep him from blitzing. He looks slower and the drop on Sunday was uncharacteristic. My guess is you'll see Ochostinko running routes in his direction as a decoy with a shot or two down the field to see which old warrior can make a play.

Wanna know why the Steelers are #1 against the pass? Try this: Matt Schaub, Joe Flacco, Curtis Painter, Tarvaris Jackson, Blaine Gabbert and Kevin Kolb. Not exactly the elite of the NFL so far.

Say hello to Mr. Brady and his offensive line.

How's your confidence going in against Patriots? - Steeler Addicts - Pittsburgh Steelers News,Message Board, Fan Site, & Blog

For some odd reason I'm actually semi confident, from an offensive standpoint. The Patriot defense is at the bottom of the league against the pass so there is no reason that we shouldn't be able to move the ball and get some big plays.

I feel a lot more confident than everyone else on this board, mostly because the Patriots defense just sucks.

Same thing jets fans were saying..

I think this is the first year we match NE on offense. We have as many weapons on offense as they do.

This made me LOL

So do we. You can't realistically say you're going to play man on Welker consistently though. Too much motion and too much of the middle of the field being worked there with our two TEs. Welker has also gotten into the vertical game a little bit now. Seriously though, every week for the last three years, we've heard, "I want to match [insert top corner] up against Welker all game long." You just can't do it. If you really want to surround Welker with 2-3 guys every play, be our guest.

Steelers were impressive last week but they have not faced a team with a premier passing attack like NE's. I like the Pats in this one.

It does seem that the Patriots offense matches up against the Steelers D historically.

We shouldn't underestimate that unit though - plenty of attitude and they are well coached.

For whatever reason the Patriots D has been able to stymie the Steelers offense (even when our play against other opposition has been less than awe-inspiring) - although the Steelers have a a more pass -first philosophy these days, the Patriots appear to be setting themselves to be a defense that looks to stop the pass as a priority too.

Despite our historical success against this team i'll be taking nothing for granted - there are alot of new factors at play this year.

Behind Enemy Lines - New England Patriots - Steeler Addicts - Pittsburgh Steelers News,Message Board, Fan Site, & Blog

A complete bunch of clowns decide to post in this topic.

The hatred for Tom Brady from these people is a little sad.

Plenty of decent Steelers fans out there - although the degree to which the Patriots have owned on numerous occasions has clearly sent some over the edge into insanity.

Some of those guys really think that it is the height of witty repartee to include an asterix everytime they mention the Patriots or repeat the 'Cheatriots' mantra.

You have to feel a little sorry for them.

I think the Steelers' run game is overrated, and particularly Mendenhall. IMO he's Green-Ellis with less ball security and consistency. This season especially, check out his line:

Att Yds Avg Lng TD
94 351 3.7 68 3

Now 3.7 ypc is nothing special to start with, then think about the long of 68. That means that over his other 93 carries, he averaged a flat 3.0 ypc. Compare to BJGE:

Att Yds Avg Lng TD
91 391 4.3 16 5

That's some pretty serious consistency, and of course it reflects on the respective OLs just as much.

Now consider that the Steelers are allowing opponents an average of 4.5 ypc (worse than the Patriots). And that with Gronkowski and Hernandez, the Pats can do just about anything out of a 2-TE set. Meanwhile the Pats' struggles against the pass may have already been mentioned on this board. :) Is this a backwards year, where the Patriots' key to victory is the ground game, and the Steelers have to do it through the air?

The poster MattyVfromCT is either a liar or a shut in.

Edit: They also have posters who want Brady injured again. Classy people there....

I want Brady hurt and hurt some more...lol

This post had me in awe. Is it really that bad? I'd never wish harm on any player in this league, not even Terrell Suggs or Suh.
